Color and appearance is VERY important to a personal choice of guitar- my last 4 instruments are 2 Sierra Mist flame maple top Fenders ( one Squier) and two turquoise ( D’Angelico & G&L )
@@60CycleHumcast I'll bet that jag stang has a perfect tonal balance between pickups. High output cutting bridge hum...and the neck pickup with almost a perfect flat response. I love it.
I love the surfy riffs. That intro jam felt like a story was coming together. Fun to listen to. The color of that guitar is absolutely to die for. Super loud, in your face, obnoxiously glittery.... it oozes attitude, and whoever plays a guitar in such a color is instantly cool.
When I first saw this pop on my feed, my answer was “no”. Now that I finally watch the video, it’s growing on me. It’s definitely you. And now you have possibly the most unique one in existence! I want a purple or blue sparkle one.
You are the kindest, most generous and capable presenter in the guitar world of TH-cam. You always talk up to those who follow you. You feel like a friend and engender confidence which is, I believe, a gift. If I may, a divine gift, a blessing.
Ya know what Ryan, I think Kurt would like what you did with his guitar. Probably never imagined surf coming out of it, which may I say you excel at. Thanks for the share!!
Cobain smashed many a now valuable off set before switching to smashing cheap pawn shop guitars.Ironically, it was Nirvana's fame that gave what were considered student / beginner guitar's value ITFP.
Marty Bell is amazing. I’ve had a guitar done by him. I worked with a U2 tribute band who also had a few guitars refinished by him. Nothing but praise for his work.
Insanely gorgeous! Love that shade of green, and then the sparkle just pushes it to 11. I’m a big proponent of color shaping your mood and your writing/playing. This will make you do some new things, for sure. I’m with you on the pickguard, too. Freaking cool guitar, loser.
Yes, you are correct; it absolutely changes how you feel about your guitar. I refinished my Jagstang along with other modifications, and it's a completely different animal.
Love the sparkle finish! Question: why do we have to solve the Mustang vibrato issue in 2022 when they’ve been making these guitars since the 1960’s? I own 2 Mustangs, a Jaguar and a Jazzmaster. I love Fender, but cmon guys. Put the little rubber thing in there with the trem screw for us already! lol 😂
I like the fleck size and color of the glitter job. I ought to start painting again. I've still got a couple of hvlp guns. I've just got to get my compressor back.
@@howardmaryon man I'd love too. I'm 47 and have been doing fiberglass, carbon fiber, kevlar and yacht painting for the past 26 years. I could put in a good ventilation system in my shop. The resins and dust, breathing the stuff in because you try to wear your respirator 100% of the time doesn't always happen, along with the thinners and solvents absorbed through the skin pays a heavy toll on the body! But I do miss it and always enjoyed the final finish. I'm going to seriously think about it.
To be honest i never heard of the jag stang until i saw John McCauley from Deer Tick playing one and i fell in love with it! Bought myself a 96 one and i am very proud of it!
I have a double cut Gibson Les Paul that I got a good deal on, but it was heavy and very uncomfortable to play. It probably ruined the value, but I ground and sanded a belly-cut and arm-carve in it making it comfortable and lighter, then after a few coats of epoxy primer and a metalflake purple re-paint I actually like it now.
Yea Ryan, love that refin, love the Jag-Stang! Yes color matters for sure. The wiggle-mod you did was the sweetest though. That's my personal fave of your quiver now.
Man that looks great! Agree that a refinish or even something as simple as changing a guard can change the feelz of a guitar to make you want to pick it up more.
That is Spectacular! ... and I like the "extra gaudiness" with the "Pearl" pickguard. Great idea on the "plastic button" insert of the trem screw! ...and the "looks" of a guitar matters quite a bit to me!
Man, I wish I bought one of these back in the day when they were even more affordable. I was on and off with the body shape, but I’ve settled on loving it. I always loved the sound though.
Great tips on the trem bar! I just found one new for 850...two days ago I did not know they existed LOL I love the 24" scale :) I hear the fingerboard on this one is sweet and it's thin....
So, you know what would be rad? Do an episode devoted to surf rock. Give recommendations (What records are good), talk about bands and the gear they used, and maybe just what you like about the genre, and is it actually your favorite kind of music, or if it's just kind of sentimental to you for whatever reason. Anything, really. I'm listening to my first real surf record from start to finish, and the verb is soooo drippy it made me think of you. Also, the record is just so fun and creative. Just a thought. love the show!
Not sure how I feel about the finish. Reminds me of the vinyl on the counter seats and booth seat cover in the 50s style diner in the village I grew up in. My Mustangs no longer have trems. I modified a top load tele 6 saddle bridge and attached it to the trem plate. After removing springs and cigar. Plays great stays in tune and no fighting with trem system.
To me, the color/finish of a guitar will make it last in my collection past the honeymoon phase if it's the right one. And by the right one I usually mean white or buttercream. Yea, I'm very specific, I know, but hey it works!
That thing is beautiful. Oh my Lord. I want that so bad. I got rid of my 96 Daphne blue jagstang to het back home after the military. Miss those originals.
Leave on the pearl pick guard! Imagine looking sharp dressed in black suit white shirt and black tie or whatever color tie and playing that guitar. It be like a cool 50’s look. That is an awesome color/finish, can’t stop looking at it! Fender needs to make those and do it in different sparkly colors and in lefty’s too!
It's a beautiful finish, but something that loud screams for a matching headstock. How about a video with a recommended Surf-Rock Playlist that influenced you?
That’s awesome! Love it! Sounds great too! That’s the guitar for you 100%! I’m impressed and jealous. Maybe a mint pick guard would look good but white is safe. Really super cool guitar.
dazzeling color broski! a black guard would look awesome as well... is the humbucker coilsplit? as in a true 3 tones in one? if not this lil mod would add to the "tone arsenal" of this beast yay yaa!!
Hey Ryan, Freaking lime sparkle,,,digging it!good stuff can you share any of the finish tricks used. I just finished a nebula finish and I want to try something like that
I told you when you did the demo video, the mustang trem Is my go-to for surf guitar. There's one thing you're missing, that you've got to try though; Try the vibrato WITHOUT the wiggle stick, pushing/pulling on the "cigar" with your palm. Try it. Report back.
This is a great medium for opinions but get it on stage under some wired lighting. Bet the color spot dude will have some fun with that sparkle. Blue, yellow, red. Can just imagine the eye candy.
Yup, the Mustang Vibrato is great for what a Bigsby is said to do best, light, atmospheric use. Its never gonna metal well, but it could do a single or maybe couple divebombs ok, with minimal pull on tuning. Still, one might just own a single Wilkinson V series equipped guitar, such as any Reverend will have a V equipped model almost all, thats is, and that WILL do the metal thing perfect.
Chartreuse is an under rated and almost forgotten colour ,in it's many variants.Thinking we share similar ideas as to what looks right; I sometimes have a hard time settling for functionality when that appearance is blah or meh. It's difficult to get a clean finish on anything that also needs to be constantly handled, and I don't recommend playing with the hazardous materials without the right equipment. You need to finish a plain neck, easy enough, - just wipe on Tru Oil. You can always just rattle can, maybe even with a clearcoat over the top, but once you get into stripping ,- you're in for some challenges.Honestly, a lot of time and effort better spent playing, when all is said and done. For what it's worth, most of the celebrated custom paint jobs were thourghly half #ssed ; all depends on where your heads at and what you're trying to change, - just the look, or the sound as well. Came out gorgeous, though I prefer the CV 70's Jaguar, anyday.
That is a thing of beauty..wow. Admittedly, I know very little about refinishing guitars, but I am wanting to add one stripe to my jaguar replica. So here is my dumb question, would I have to strip the entire paint job to add this stripe? Or could I pull off just adding one over it? Thanks!
Properly jealous!!! I’m the tiniest dude ever and I want a Jag Stang bad af but all the rich “collector” neckbeards keep driving the price out of this world. I just want a 24” scale with a small body and a humbucker ffs 🤣 I’m about to build one myself ffs. 😥 congrats on your new chartreuse baby!!!(late is better than never😂🎉)
When Ryan is not just noodling and does surf stuff, he is legit, he cannot help it, played too much surf and cannot hide his power level.

G&L has an online shop that sells set screws with nylon bushings for their arms. I used one of them for a Jag-Stang kit.
