    This is called Golden Handcuffs. All the nice stuff that you get used to, but it ties you down to the job in the end and keeps you from leaving when you otherwise would.

      Exactly ! My last boss pulled this and it didn't work. Now he's having a hard time filling the position I had. See, I started working at this company and upon being hired, he promised an attractive raise in a month providing I can fulfill the job. I won't go into the job type itself, but it's something that it's rare for a person to know how to perform. So they hire me at 11.00 an hour promising at least 15.00 an hour in a month. The first month goes by and the owner comes to me saying, when you pick up your check today, make sure it's correct. So I'm expecting 15 an hour multiplied by 50 hours minus tax. Right ? I'm looking at my check in my car and it was still 11 an hour. I'm like wtf.... well, it was the end of the day, the management was gone for the day. The next day I show the check to the owner and told him that you told me to look at the check to make sure it was correct. He looked at it and asked what was the original verbal agreement ? I said 15.00 an hour after a month. That's what you said ! He fixed the check, but only gave me 12.00 an hour. Since it was verbal, I didn't argue. Hell, I'm lucky to have a job. Well, time went on and a year later I received zero raises. Didn't say anything. Second year goes by, no raise. So I'm In my lab he comes in and asked how things are going, how's the equipment, yaddy, yaddy, yaddy..... I asked if I can talk with him in his office. He said ok, is there a problem ? We spoke in his office about the verbal agreement, it's been two years without a raise etc. What's going on ? He says were slow in sales right now and I just need you to hold out a while longer. You do great work, zero issues etc... so, I went back to my lab. Sat there thinking, Wtf am I doing here dealing with an owner that's just stringing me along. So, he pops up again and tosses down a pile of orders for me to build, test and ship and then walks out. I look at the clock and it's about time for lunch. so I start heading out the building toward my car thinking, I just got paid today. I'm in a drive through waiting and thinking, if I just quit, he'll hang for those orders that he can't assemble himself ! I got my food and drove home ! FUCK him.... now they have a position open for my job that not 1 in 100,000 people could do, especially for the shit pay....

    Wow, you must be psychic or something. Today I literally turned down a job because of exactly what you stated in this video. I knew that my skill-set was exactly what was wanted but also knew that there was a cap on my growth and success because it was only what the company sets and they wanted me dependent on them. For me, that was not what I wanted or be fulfilled at. Thank you so much for this video, I really appreciate you and your honesty! :)

    This is so true. At a job I had a little over a year ago I was making around $80,000 doing sales. I earned about $10,000-20,000 more than most of my coworkers yet my coworkers were buying ridiculously expensive cars and spending all their money at the clubs. I had old shoes and brought my lunch everyday even though I earned more.
    At the same time I was earning money from a business I still have that I would work on in the early mornings and at night. That business made me several times more than the money I earned from my job but I kept my job because I had nothing to do during the day and who would scoff at more money? Well I was foolish enough to mention my business to a coworker who predictably informed my general manager. I got called in and asked straight by him how much money I earned outside of my job. He seemed angry. He was frustrated that I didn't need the job to pay bills but rather wanted it to earn extra money I wouldn't spend. In the end I was let go about a month later for a made up reason. It showed me how much bosses want their employees to feel financial pressure to perform higher. In my case I was the highest performer on the team but there must have been some jealousy that I was making multiples of my bosses salary.

    Funny thing is if you control your expenses, I mean micro manage them you can live like, smell like, & dress like the big Millionaires CEO's and have more free time then them. ( Pay attention where you buy your clothes, avoid name brands, you want a luxury car, get a good 10yr old used one and buy it outright etc: I am a passive real estate investor and have 100% free time!!! On point!! THANKS FOR THE CONFIRMATION. My new employer literally had the NERVE to ask how much I pay in rent [expensive city & neighborhood but I got a practically unheard of deal]. ** I contemplated almost upping the price to the median cost to let her know I expect to be able to afford that rent ...but then decided just to let her know what I actually pay. Her jaw dropped...& think in the long run she won't be able to use "having to cover rent" as leverage over me [** most folks pay up to 2/3 of their salary just on rent here].

He's not as discreet as many bosses. :) Great content. Luckily for me, I'm debt free and have 6 months of savings in the bank. Years of savings if only I didn't work.

  • @jacquelinemanzano9328
    @jacquelinemanzano9328 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I absolutely agree with you, yes of course your boss wants you to live above your means, because you will become his/her workaholic, and you will be easy to manipulate. In fact they will encourage you to reward yourself with new cars and vacations, after all you worked for it so why not enjoy becoming a debt slave. IMO, this falls within the ambit of a sleep walker who conforms to the norm by following the follower, running on a treadmill that never stops. Simply put, an act becomes a habit when it no longer requires thought. This is not only irresponsible, but this mindset inhibits one's ability to think critically. I am not a slave to conditions and I love my freedom of independence. People laugh at me because I'm different and I laugh at them because they're all the same. Thoughts are things. Money is an idea, why not think critically and grow financially responsible.

    I'm in the construction management industry, and I see it all around me. Coworkers, architects, engineers, laborers, admin, etc, everyone has a propped up lifestyle, and a missed paycheck could wipe them out.
    I just saw a fellow coworker get fired, for not working enough (ie: only 50-60 hrs/week), and I know he's devastated, bc he has a mortgage to pay.
    From a young age, I knew that lifestyle inflation, and debt were the enemy, but its because I crave freedom. I still eat frozen meals for lunch everyday, and all my coworkers laugh at me. But little do they know, I save about 70 - 80% of my income, and have been investing it constantly.
    Its not the easy road, but delayed gratification pays off in the long run.

    I need to take xare of Student loans first!

    • @freedom_mentor
      @freedom_mentor  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well, student loans are typically a very low interest rate. You may want to go buy some assets or start a business or start investing and use the profits to pay off the student loans.
      If your student loans are 3%, you can easily earn more than 3% return on investment elsewhere.
      It's called arbitrage.

    • @liemh9290
      @liemh9290 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Me and ex gf, bought a house from builder new, we shop and negotiated the price, not much negotiation room.
      We used a friend who is a real estate agent, come signed our papper, that was it and he earned $4000. That got me interested in real estate world :)

    • @lalem91
      @lalem91 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, the student loan thing took me a couple months after graduation to figure out, but not only is the interest rate low, the paid interest is tax deductible up to $2500 per year even if you don't itemize deductions. I'm glad I majored in accounting :)

I am in a situation where the company I work for is being acquired, and they are trying to get me to stay on after the merger...for the same salary (but they're going to "think about" giving me a raise later...ugh). I can't help but think "Why am I considering taking another J.O.B.?"...I guess what I am trying to understand is: How do I know when its time to work without the safety net of a J.O.B. given the lifestyle and expenses that are now there (that were outlined so well in your video)?
