  • In this video, we will do some tests to see the performance of the HP T620 Plus running OpenWRT. The tests consits of normal speedtest, NAT test with iperf3, OpenVPN and Wireguard VPN in both client mode & server mode. The result is really impressive, I strongly believe the router PC can handle Gigabit throughput for both normal usage or with Wireguard VPN.

Hi, by any chance, did you make performance tests about the wireless throughput of the mPCIe broadcomm card you placed in it ? By thanking you for the videos anyway

Hey, when it comes to Wireless with OpenWRT, a Qualcomm chipset is recommended since most of the driver is available OpenSource. The broadcomm card that I got is only good for receiving / AP client mode.

do you know what the CPU load was when running OpenVPN tests?

good one, may i ask how much did you pay to find one hp620plus and how much power does it take? Thanks

      9w power consumption.
You might find them in ebay. The upgraded model is t730. Prices are still high for t620+ model due to people buying it to install pfsense.
A cheaper and faster option is a dell optiplex 9020 with an i5 and an Intel i350-t4 card About 12w at idle.

Why not run pFsense or OPNsense ?

Can OpenVPN create a tunnel to bypass CGNAT? It is really troublesome during peak hours

Can OpenVPN create a tunnel - yes, it can be configured as Layer 2 or Layer 3 VPN.
To bypass CGNAT - unfortunately I haven't tried and I have to chance to try it, sorry I can't help on this. If you want to learn more about how to setting up an OpenVPN server/client with OpenWRT, I have the tutorial in the playlist.

U can but I would suggest using wireguard as it is way faster and there is no significant CPU load as well. Keep in mind that for both openvpn and wireguard to work, the server should have a public ip.

    Lets say :

    Router B isp plan 800mbps
From Modem Lan to Wan Router A
From Router A Lan to Wan Router B

Hi, if you can do this with a normal router, you can do the same with OpenWRT router. You can create 2 or 3 PPPoE connections with 1 router, as long as your ISP allow that.
