If I remember correctly, at the time Vick was with the falcons he signed the highest contract of all time as a player not just a QB. I could be wrong though.

The game has become mostly a passing league but back in those times a great running back was always paid their due, the best defenders always got the big money and linemen always got big money, now its mostly only the qb who get paid.

Cousins has a 67% career completion percentage which is in the top 5 in NFL history for QBs with at least 1,500 attempts. He is the definition of a consistent “game manager”. To the average viewer Kirk is just an average QB that doesn't do anything fancy. This really comes down to expectations. None of us expect Kirk Cousins to be great - so when he is not. No one is asking for it. Kirk is who he is. He’s a slightly above average nfl quarterback. Cam, Fields, and Vick all had a chance to be great. Vick really was great after his return. But there were expectations on these guys because we were hoping to see them to reach more of their potential.
Because Kirk is a great team teammate, doesn't cause drama, says all the right things, and is an extremely accurate passer. One can easily argue that his big game losses were not necessarily his fault. He's also (until recently) been very durable. In other words: Kirk's upside potential far exceeds his downside risk. Best case: he takes you deep into the playoffs, worst case you are a middle of the road team. For a GM, whose job is to manage risk, he's a very safe investment.
He’s a much better passer. More yards and touchdowns and fewer interceptions. There’s a reason one signed a contract and the other wears silly hats and does talk shows now.

Cousins gets paid because he might be the most consistent above average passer in league history. he leaves a lot to be desired in big games and big moments, but generally speaking, he can make all the throws and he is one of the most accurate passers in terms of raw ball placement. those things are always going to be more valuable than athletic ability

The game has become mostly a passing league but back in those times a great running back was always paid their due, the best defenders always got the big money and linemen always got big money, now its mostly only the qb who get paid.

Kirk has a great agent but he also has a hell of an arm, better than Cam Newtons ever been and he lead the league in passing yards more then once. You can say that about a few good QB’s before they actually won something (Stafford, Josh Allen, Jackson, Watson, Dak, Justin Herbert). This really comes down to expectations. None of us expect Kirk Cousins to be great - so when he is not. No one is asking for it. Kirk is who he is. He’s a slightly above average nfl quarterback.
Cam, Fields, and Vick all had a chance to be great. Vick really was great after his return. But there were expectations on these guys because we were hoping to see them to reach more of their potential.

Because Kirk is a great team teammate, doesn't cause drama, says all the right things, and is an extremely accurate passer. One can easily argue that his big game losses were not necessarily his fault. He's also (until recently) been very durable. In other words: Kirk's upside potential far exceeds his downside risk. Best case: he takes you deep into the playoffs, worst case you are a middle of the road team. For a GM, whose job is to manage risk, he's a very safe investment.
This in stark contrast to Cam who had a few great seasons, a bunch of awful seasons, and is drama incarnate. Why would anyone invest in that?

Cousins gets paid because he might be the most consistent above average passer in league history. he leaves a lot to be desired in big games and big moments, but generally speaking, he can make all the throws and he is one of the most accurate passers in terms of raw ball placement. those things are always going to be more valuable than athletic ability
