My God shot had to do with being unevenly yoked. I've read and reread this many times over the years, mostly because I married an unbeliever...someone who was abused by the nuns in his elementary school for 6 yrs and who asked me if there was a God why would He allow that to happen. But God. God ordained this unevenly yoked marriage so my husband could see a loving God through me. He gave his life to Christ and was baptized on his 50th birthday!. Praise God. We celebrate our 53rd anniversary on Tuesday! God turned what may have been deemed a curse into a blessing. Thankful.❤
How amazing and what a testimony of your faith. Unfortunately not many end this way because we are all human and have weaknesses. I being one of those. After being married 24 years to an unbeliever, my high school boyfriend that I married yes after becoming a Christian as a teenager but not exactly walking with God at the time, I ended it with divorce. The years of alcoholism, drugs, gambling, and so on had become to hard for me and I thought my children. I admit I was weak and gave up. So I understand the value of being unequally yoked.
You do so much study for this. My husband passed away six years ago and I haven't had any desire to study the Bible since he died. Not until now at least. You have helped my love Bible study again.
checking in, YES & YES I am loving reading the Bible more and more everyday, I find comfort in learning more about God, for the first time in my life, I read the Bible seeking God in the pages of the Bible and not looking for my to do list, thank you,The Bible Recap Team & Tara-Leigh who inspires me and taught me how to read the Bible.
God is an Overcomer. He knows that there will be wars and captives and women being falsely accused, and wives who are not loved. We may “wish” that we could wish away all these troubles (as in the recent Disney movie “Wish” where the character tries to fix everything and can’t). But in John 16:33, Jesus says that we will have “many trials and troubles, but take heart; I have overcome the world!” Wouldn’t it be nice if every day was smooth sailing. But God has a purpose in growing us in these times, and helps us rely on Him.
When I looked at the "assembly" and continued on about His commands on do's and don't, I see Moses might be referring to the Army which has also been called the Assembly. He "assembled" the fighting men. These men were to be strong, healthy not with physical problems that could hinder their ability. They would be going into pagan countries and see women to "take". Do it honoring her! All of the things he commanded the people to do set them apart! The tassels reminded them as they brushed their feet as they walked.... be careful where your feet take you! Love the symbolism of these rich chapters!
One thing I found interesting about today’s reading is that ‘Not my problem’ is not an excuse. The Israelites had to atone for the death of an unsolved murder in order to be free from guilt. God also commands them not to ignore someone’s lost animal or cloak, but they should take it in and hold it until the owner can claim it.
Also, He cares about the innocent, purge the guilt. “So you shall purge the guilt of innocent blood from your midst, when you do what is right in the sight of the Lord.” Deuteronomy 21:9 ESV
I’m still here! I’m on track! 🙌🏻 I’m loving these studies. I no longer think, “well I have to do my study now” I think, “what’s next?! I cant wait to see what’s next!” I’m so grateful for these talks about our reading. They help me so much!
When I read 23:1 I just couldn't help but thank Jesus for coming to take my place in death. I have seen God's character through the scriptures. I love this Bible reading journey and ofcourse I've fallen in love with Tara Leigh Cobble ❤️
I love when I have those "Aha!" moments, and I see those glimpses of Jesus. "All those who are hung on a tree" 😭 from the very start, so very, very long ago, God has been pursuing us and preparing our rescue.
Asking for wisdom is an essential part of my Bible reading. I’m grateful for His wisdom and direction as I read. I’m also grateful for the insights and information shared here. What a beautiful way to learn more about Him.
God is good and I praise that we live under the new covenant . That seems to be my major God-shot the last few days. Glory to Christ and His redemptive work at the cross.
2024; God is a just God; Jesus, thank You for taking the curse for us; we are free; God , you take my curse and give me blessings. How amazing are You. I love You, Father. ♥️
Checking in!!! Learning about God and loving Him more and more everyday. Being filled with joy everyday by being with Him, getting to know Him because He’s where the joy is 😊
I'm learning a right perspective on how God sees women. He is correcting misunderstanding and lies I have through wisdom. So grateful to see it correctly.
Checking in and thanking God for the videos and TLC and her entire production team/family. I am thankful for having the opportunity to have an intimate relationship with our God. I am learning so much about God through the Bible recap and reading God's Word at such a detailed level. Thank God for leading us to such a wonderful platform 🙏 🙌 ❤
As one who had only read sections of the OT at a time, I’m finding myself sometimes overwhelmed by the content and punishments but thankful for the commentaries of TLC and other trusted texts. Learning so much!
The relationship between God and man has always been initiated by God because of His love for the people He created. His laws have always been about our holiness and His love and protection of us. He wants us and wants what's best for us.
I have felt the same way...."ALL THE WASTED YEARS". I felt that I was not serving Him the way He deserved and I was utterly broken about this, then I prayed for the Lord for help and he lead me to The Bible Recap! I am forever grateful to God for answering this prayer of mine!
I saw God's righteousness and grace on display in chapter 23 when He instructs the Isrealites to treat the Edomites with respect because they are descendanrs of the same Abraham. That's His righteouness. Then when He says that the third generation of Egyptians may enter the assembly, I saw God's grace. I think it was likely that the Egyptians who lived at the time of the Exodus were humbled by the true and living God and many may have repented. If they did repent and chose to follow the God of Israel, I'm sure they told their children and children's childen about Him.
Good afternoon BR family. Having technical issues with audio. Wonderful day at church today more of Gods words. His message was "Lord We Owe You everything". Yes, we do because is where the Joy is!!! blessed and see you tomorrow. Hopefully there are no technical issues. 🥰💯
I am a little behind on my reading. I am trying to play catch up. I missed it as I stepped away briefly. My quiet time getting into God's word 1st thing in the morning really sets the tone for my day. GOD IS GOOD and I am loving getting to know him more and more daily. Thanks TLC
I can relate to the part about following Christ one minute and not following the next minute. There was a season where I felt lost but reading the Bible strengthens the faith.
I am super struggling with the Old Testament 😥 Some of these passages make God look so unloving. I am still trying to process and make sense of it all. I know Jesus. I have heard the Lord speak to me, experienced many miracles, and even had visions of things, but I am still struggling. Please pray with me to get past the hard parts.
I know how you feel. I have a commentary next to me. ( On my phone) when I am reading and studying. And if I still don't understand I pray for insight highlighted it and move on. Then I go back to my highlighted area and study and research it more
I can identify with your difficulty. Years ago when I struggled with all the whys in an abusive marriage to a Muslim, I “just happened “ to pick up “The One Year Bible” and suddenly the “old covenant” & “new testament “ came alive as I saw it was one book! The Covenant & the Renewed Covenant, is now what I call them. All the righteous judgement was paid for by our precious Messiah! All the mercy & grace is ours now. I fell in love with Jesus on a whole new level & it only grows stronger & deeper the more I study. What a wonderful salvation we have!
So many laws! Some seem to make sense to me, and most seem full of wisdom. Others I don't understand or even seem unjust to me. But who am I to judge the Laws of God? As a modern believer, I want to see God's character and how the laws apply now to us who are not Israelites, but who have been adoptedinto God’s family. This is difficult. It bothers me to see God rejecting people from being able to worship Him for things they cannot help- being of certain ancestry, having parents who sinned sexually in his conception, or being made a eunuch. It breaks my heart. This is not like the God we see in other places, so I must not be understanding this command. God says in Ecclesiastes that He judges each person for the sins that person committed. How could He reject someone for being born out of wedlock?
This confused me too! A commenter further down said that assembly refers to the national governing body (Judges 20:2 uses the word in this context) so perhaps it isn’t that they were barred from worshipping God but from being a judge? (If that part is true, I think the unfairness could come from TLC’s point that God is making rules for imperfect people to act honorably, and people may not have trusted the people who were listed to lead them.)
The repeated phrase, "You must purge the evil from among you" stood out to me. Killing a rebellious son seems harsh and I cringed when I read it. I can not imagine killing one of my sons. God took this and marriage violations seriously and called them evil. He did not want the evil to spread and so drastic measures were called for.
It’s hard to imagine killing your sons. We are made in His image, but not all are His adopted children. In thinking about this, I think about it as believer(obedient son) rather than a unbeliever (rebellious son). In the end, the rebellious unbeliever who chooses not to be redeemed is condemned already. It is one reason that I pray for all unbelievers. God doesn’t want anyone to perish, He is patient and longs for us to come to Him. I have unbelieving family, and friends. It breaks my heart. He calls us one at a time. I pray, I pray, I pray and hopefully display God’s love.
This is why the acceptance of sinful behavior in the church is so dangerous. We must never condone it in a believers life, but help them turn away from it. Paul was very clear about this.
The mixing of fabric actually has a scientific reason behind it. Fabrics release different healing frequencies at different levels of vibrations. When you mix them it cancels them out. But wearing for example only linen the frequency released from the fabric can actually help heal wounds on the body
God was really slow with the people, He could have started all over with a new generation that flipped marriage and sacrifice into New Testament processes. But He allowed the parents to teach the new generations (wrongly) and slowly added new laws with incremental holiness. He was SO slow with us. He is patient with humanity but just with truth, He let the older generations be consumed in the desert.and the same with subsequent, less nasty than their parent's generation, and so on. If Moses had been okay with the Noah treatment, maybe God would have jumped the laws faster in holiness, maybe not. But I loved Leviticus, I wish God would just tell us exactly what to do, following your own conscience is what I call suffering because the conscience changes, leading to regrets, God doesn't change. There is stability in God, assurance.
Moses continues his instructions to the people of Israel. Deuteronomy 21: If there is a man found murdered, and the murder is unsolved, the judges and elders of that town are to come and make atonement for the person's death. They will take a heifer that has never been worked and break its neck. The priests and Levites will come and minister. Then, the judges and elders must come near the heifer and wash their hands over it to signify that their hands are clean of the murder. Guidelines are also spelled out for a man who wants to marry a female captive and how parents are to deal with a rebellious son. A man who is punished for their sin by hang must not be left on the tree overnight because it is a curse. The body has to be buried the same day. The inheritance laws of the firstborn made me think of Jacob, who had 2 wives, Leah, whom he hated, and Rachel, whom he loved. Reuben (born by Leah) was the firstborn, but by God's will, his rights were taken away. Deuteronomy 22: various laws are given. The Lord provides details on how to handle someone's property being lost. It also gives directions for when a husband accuses his wife of infidelity, specifically if he believes his was not a virgin at the consummation of their marriage. It tells how to deal with a man who takes a woman who's betrothed to another man and if the woman is not betrothed. These were some really tough passages to read, but I know that the Lord is providing guidance in how to determine if a woman is raped or not, and administering the appropriate justice for the crime. There are some interesting rules about not mixing certain things. They are not supposed to sow 2 different types of seed in their vineyard. They are not to have an ox and a donkey yoked together for plowing. And, they are not to wear clothing that is mixed with wool and linen. Deuteronomy 23: Certain people are listed who are to be excluded from Israel's assembly. In 23:3, it says, “No Ammonite or Moabite may enter the assembly of the Lord. Even to the tenth generation, none of them may enter the assembly of the Lord forever". There is also some brief explanation on how to deal with certain uncleanness in the camp. This chapter ends with some additional miscellaneous laws. If a slave escapes from his master, they are to let that slave remain living with them. Neither men nor women are to be cult prostitutes. When giving a loan to your brother, do not charge interest. If you make a vow, keep it because you have made it before the Lord. Anyone standing in a neighbor's vineyard or field of grain may eat what they want while there but can't take any with them. The Lord is continuing to direct the steps of Israel, giving them specific guidelines for how they are to live once they enter the promised land. My God shot goes back to Deuteronomy 23: 3, where it states that neither the Ammonites nor the Moabites are allowed to be a part of the assembly. I am so thankful that God is a redeemer, not just of Israel, but also of us Gentiles. Later on in this biblical narrative, we will read the book of Ruth. Ruth was a Moabite woman who married Boaz, an Isrealite. From this union, their son Obed is born. Obed fathers Jesse. Jesse fathers David. David becomes the 2nd king of Israel, a man after God's own heart. From the line of David, we get our Savior Jesus Christ! Praise the name of our Lord! Thank you as always to TLC and TBR for these podcasts. The mention of Paul's instructions to the Corinthians about being unequally yoked in marriage was a reminder that we do need to be careful about who we link ourselves with. The commentary given on the curse if someone is hanged on a tree ... Wow! Thank You, Jesus, for reversing the curse. You bore the curse of my sin and paid the penalty that I deserved so that I could receive the blessing of salvation!
Question....Deut. 22 vs 5 plainly states that A woman is not to wear male clothing and a man is not to put on a woman's garment, for EVERYONE who does these things is Detestable to the Lord your God. Why is this not mentioned or at least highlighted given how much this is being pushed on our children and society at this present time? I do not believe just because it is 2023 this is less Detestable to God. I would be interested in others views as long as they are constructive.
God Shot: Don’t be unequally yoked with other non believers and how GOD felt about hanging anyone hanging from a tree.🤔Thank you Lord for turning my curses to blessings 🙏🏾
I love reading the bible but in deuteronomy I'm not sure of the verse but it said a woman shall not wear men's clothing and man should not wear women's clothing? I know what it means but what about in today's world I'm thinking that Jesus dying on the cross forgives those people that do that in our own culture toda?
I know a local Church that takes the verse Deuteronomy 22:5 very seriously. To the point where women of the congregation cannot wear pants. Dresses or skirts only. My feeling is that our cultures change. There are, for example, womens jeans and mens jeans, womens t-shirts and mens t-shirts etc. Does anyone else have insight?
I have had questions about this passage too....my first thought, always when I read that is Adam and Eve were naked - until they ate the forbidden fruit - who determined that clothes were male/female at that point - I know I am digging on this probably too deep, but it is weird to think about.
I'm so enjoying reading the Bible with all of you and TLC! ...Question about today's reading in Deuteronomy 23:3. Ruth was a Moabite woman, but she was welcomed into the Israelite community and even became an ancestor of Christ! I'm just wondering why that law wasn't kept for her, other than God's kindness. Any thoughts?
I caught that too! I'm very curious to hear what she or anyone else has to say. I don't think 10 generations will have passed by the time we get to Ruth's story. That was my only guess.
I wondered about that, too. Maybe the answer is that Ruth turned away from the worship of pagan gods and worshipped the one true God. She told Naomi she would go where she goes and her God would be her God. (I'm paraphrasing the passage.) It seems like the prohibition against Moabites had to do with their attitude in trying to curse Israel & trick them into worshipping their gods. Maybe Ruth could be accepted because she turned away from that attitude and toward God.
If my study Bible gives any insight I'll share. Thanks for pointing this out it always helps me when others bring questions to the comment section! Thank you!
@@jeaniemowery7027 my study Bible pointed to the notes for Ruth 1:4 which say: Ruth's husband was Mahlon. There was no formal prohibition against marrying Moabites. However marriage to Moabites was discouraged because of their commitment to other gods (such as Molech), the Balaam debacle, Israel's debauchery with Moabite women in the wilderness, and the 10-generation Moabite male exclusion from the assembly of the Lord. This may not exactly answer your question but maybe it helps a little.
Kristi, Assembly does not mean they can not participate in worshiping God. It does not mean congregation. In fact, God said the foreigners could participate in Passover Exo 12:48. Assembly was the people who were a part of the judges, elders, and representatives of the people of Israel. (Numb 35:12) Hope that helps. Ruth renounced pagen God's and was very much welcomed to worship God and what a role she played!
I have to be honest and say I have not enjoyed Leviticus, Numbers, or the book we are in now, Deuteronomy. You used the word cringeworthy, ( distasteful) which is exactly how much of it makes me feel, but also I would say , confusing a bit in some instances , and also seemingly irrelevant and impractical to my Christian life or walk today. Some passages where Moses seems to talk God out of destroying Israel are very disturbing to me , as if Moses is wiser and more rational then God, or that God had a temper tantrum with Israel’s unbelief and rebellion , and Moses had to calm him down and remind Him of His promises. To me that seems to diminish the character of God and put him in a bad light. I don’t like that. And some of the laws are so strict that a person must be stoned , but then for something so serious as having two wives, you saying that even though God did not condone it , He allowed it and made laws about it, as if it was not such a serious sin ! So, because of these things , I do not like these books, and can’t wait to get through them.
Loving the Bible Recap but this reading - stoning to death someone who claims to be (but is not) a virgin. Sorry / that is ridiculous + haven’t heard any credible explanation otherwise.
My God shot had to do with being unevenly yoked. Beautiful testimony! Alleluia! This gives me hope in my 14 year marriage!
Oh and happy 53rd anniversary! That's a long time! May God continue to bless your marriage!
Yoked…I was unable to fix the auto misspelling
You do so much study for this. My husband passed away six years ago and I haven't had any desire to study the Bible since he died. Not until now at least. You have helped my love Bible study again.
Wow! Jaw-dropping moment regarding the "unequally yoked" AND the connection of God turning curses to blessings because HE LOVES US! ❤❤❤❤❤

This is why the acceptance of sinful behavior in the church is so dangerous. We must never condone it in a believers life, but help them turn away from it. Paul was very clear about this.
My commentary said there was no proof this was ever carried out but just the threat of it would be enough to keep kids in line.
I feel my husband and I are unequally yoked... what to do about it? I've prayed for almost 10 years now. I will continue to pray and ask for wisdom.
Me too. But as believers we can be a blessing to them. Maybe one day…they will believe. Pray, pray, pray.
The mixing of fabric actually has a scientific reason behind it. Fabrics release different healing frequencies at different levels of vibrations. When you mix them it cancels them out. But wearing for example only linen the frequency released from the fabric can actually help heal wounds on the body
I'm really loving digging into the Word, but today, Deut. 22:24 is A LOT and I am struggling with it..
Chapter 21 regarding the men not wearing womens clothing and vice versa. What things do you think men wore that only a women wore and vice versa?

I’m 4 months but I’m trying to catch up 😂

I agree!
Agreed 😣
I CANT BELIEVE SHE DIDNT BRING UP STONING YOUR KID
This applied to adult sons, not unruly children.
Getting an error on day 77 “something went wrong. Tap to retry”
My teen showed me how to fix it 😊😊
Deuteronomy 22:5. What say you? Could this relate to “trans people” today?
Loving the Bible Recap but this reading - stoning to death someone who claims to be (but is not) a virgin. Sorry / that is ridiculous + haven’t heard any credible explanation otherwise.
