Besides his beautiful voice, Stan Walker is a survival! He has been through so much in his life. There is a documentary on TH-cam regarding his journey through stomach cancer and the after affects causing him not being able to sing. Since i accidentally listened to him sing I Am, I am hooked on this amazing young man.

To the host, thanks for doing this reaction. I just wanted you to know that Stan had his stomach removed because of a hereditary cancer syndrome and has a TH-cam video on the treatment and recovery that he endured. He was unsure if he could ever sing again. He's using other parts of his body to support his singing, an amazing feat. On another video he shares parts of his life story before winning the Australian Idol. If you ever get to watch those, you'll understand how Stan Walker is able to invoke strong feelings from his listeners with his arrangements and music. And why he has loyal fans of all age groups all across Oceania and now beyond thanks in large part to these reaction videos. So, thanks again.

And Yes, this version of Amazing Grace included an original by Stan "I Surrender" and the singing/harmonies are a natural part of his indigenous culture as a "Maori" growing up in New Zealand. Just for clarification the Backing Vocal group are "The Standard", members Ani Nuku, Lilo Asiata, Nathan Peseta, and the Session band is "The Levites" (Named after one of the 12 tribes of Israel from the Old Testament) made up of Christmas Ropati (Guitar) and the Nansen brothers Ross (Drums), Jacob (Keyboard) and Junior (Bass). Hari Tau Hou (Happy New Year) Bethany. You remind me of my niece, similar features.

Stan Walker won the 7th season of Australian Idol back in 2009 when he was only 19 years old. From everything i have seen he is a wonderful human being.

Had the same reaction when I first heard this song.. with being engulfed in the passion he sings with and so surprise had to hit the pause and rewind.. It was like a song of my soul to God and I fully love this song. God bless Stan Walker and the Levites. Ultra Light Beam, yes. Whoo! Hear that. Love the man and Praise God for elevating him so he can bless many with his voice and passion for God.
heard this live in his home town, wanganui at their opera house. I think it was the same BVs as i recognise the middle singer. Same band. they opened with this song. it was amazing!

Never heard of Stan Walker & The Levites before but now I have on my favourites playlist for a while.What I really enjoy from the Vocal Coach episodes is the variety of existing e. Paolo Nutini & new artists eg Satn Walker that I am reminded of or finding out about. It’s expanding my musical tastes & genres dramatically .My personal thanks. & keep it going please. Ever considered any African music…..there are some good artists coming out of there yet everyone ignores them -hufge mistake. Will send you some links so you can see what I mean.

Best version of this great lyric. Stan Walker was not a trained vocalist, he is a God given GIFT. He had been thru a lot healthwise but singing carrying him through. He is New Zealander n I remember he was one of the Australian Idol Contestants in 2009. He sang Purple Rain at the Opera House, Sydney n God his voice is insane his version is different n I think he is one of the best artist of Polynesia that I've heard so far. Well, I believe he mixed Amazing Grace with Surrender in this version. What a fantastic job.

Yes and amazingly , since his operation his voice has become... sublime is the word that comes to mind. He far exceeds his beginning which was already fantastic. Now, he's in a class of his own.

It's about his struggles and difficult living under a harsh company agent and also his closest friend committing suicide.
A lot of people are requesting ultralight beam next and for good reason but I propose going a different direction and listening to his song of Ma te Marie, a hymn in Te Reo Maori, nga mihi 🇳🇿

Not sure if you know this, but Stan had stomach cancer a few years ago which resulted in him having it removed. He feared that he was going to loose his voice. Well, he definitely didnt!!
