    Nice video and you hit some great spots around Highlands! For future reference, the Cullsaja River and Cullasaja Falls are pronounced with a long 'a' before the 'j' and the 'j' is a hard 'j'. Cullah-say-jah

    • @BeHereTravel
      @BeHereTravel  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Noted, my research made me believe that the proper pronunciation from the original name had the J sounding like an H. Apparently, that research was flawed.

      Yes, I was about to say the same. It, like many other names in the area, are Native American and it had reference to "Sweet Water." Like Nantahala is nan-tuh-hay-luh referring to noonday sun. Also, we locals used to go to the "Quarry Hole." It was changed to Bust Your Butt by tourists that had this confused with Bust Your Butt which is above Rainbow and Turtleback. If you go back to the USFS Information Board you will find the name, "Quarry Hole." This is where the old rock quarry used to be when this road was originally built. There is no telling the answers you may get when asking other tourists.

      I grew up in the area myself pronouncing this way since but the Native American pronunciation the way he said is accurate.

    Wow we love chasing waterfalls and didn't know North Carolina had so many beautiful ones. I can't wait to walk around Dry Falls and Cullasaja Falls literally made my jaw drop. Love your humor so much! Such a great video!

    • @BeHereTravel
      @BeHereTravel  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      North Carolina is FULL of waterfalls.
      You can visit the first 4 on this video in an afternoon. If you visit Cullasaja, BE CAREFUL, it is not easy to go down that hill or come up. I totally fell in the water and nearly hurt myself. But that's part of the adventure right! 😁
      Check out my waterfall episode in North Georgia, those are great too 👍

    You should go one county lower to Oconee SC. A bunch of waterfalls and mountain lakes. The people aren’t a bunch of snobs like in highlands. If you do I can give you some pointers on the most beautiful places to go.

      @@liquidevidence9110 Yellow Branch falls is one of my favorite. Issaqueena is another, they have a deck you can walk out on and it’s right beside Stumphouse tunnel. Brass town falls has three sections and are absolutely Beautiful. The Oconee history museum is awesome to by the way. Oconee Station falls are beautiful to and a very short walk. Check out the station while your there. Chattooga Belle farms is a nice place to visit to. It’s a vineyard and has a awesome view and is a nice place to visit. I’ll try to think of a few more.
