Great advice. One of the biggest mistakes learners make is to try always to play the piece at the correct tempo - then wonder why they keep struggling with the bits they always struggle with! Go over those sections, play them slowly until the muscle memory is fixed, then gradually speed up. If you can play a piece perfectly up to a certain point - don't keep playing to that point, then slowing down and grappling with it. Grapple with it first! Get it right! Great video, Francesca - as always. The best piano teacher on TH-cam!
Merci to you, and to Tomplay. For now I don't need it, but I've been thinking about this and your channel has been so helpful so it is on the top of my list.
I just discovered your channel and your videos are so helpful!! For your last point you mentioned practicing using the same fingers every time but you also mention using the "right" fingers also. Could you point me to videos where you highlight how to know which fingering is best or "right" as we move along playing different chords / inversions / progressions / etc. It seems I might start a chord with a pretty standard fingering but I'm not sure about the "rules" for shifting my fingers as I progress up and down the keyboard. Thank you so much!!!
Thankyou for a very informative video on efficient piano prctice: i decided to learn to play the piano in March/April 2020 (during first lockdown) not ever having played a musical instument albeit i do love music of all genres ; i obtained a second hand Yamaha 61 key digital keyboard which i continue to use although i,m now considering investing in a Roland FP 30 with the full complement of keys and a superior sound; i,m currently working my way through "Alfred,s Adult All-in One Piano Course" (book 1) with additinal help from "TH-cam videos - i think i,m at the stage now where a piano teacher would be beneficial for continued improvement. Keep up the good work and i will look in to more of your presentations.
Hi!! I loooove your videos they have been so useful for me. But, I have a request can you pleaseeeeee make a cover of Cold from James Blunt. Please, I love that song and I would like to play it on piano. Thaks
What is your opinion on writing note names on sheet music? I find myself spending the majority of my time slowly reading through and deciphering each note rather than actually playing the piano. I don't want to handicap myself and never learn to read efficiently but I also want the process of learning a new piece to be more fluid. I was considering only marking notes or sections that I particularly struggle with but am wondering if that will just end up making the other parts more difficult to read as my brain might become conditioned to look for note names instinctively.
LOL. I was confused by this too recently and I had to look it up to check. "Practise or practice? In Australian and British English, 'practise' is the verb and 'practice' is the noun. In American English, 'practice' is both the verb and the noun."
Yes I do, because i use to learn everyday from your channel its easy and simply awesome Waiting for the lockdown to open and just run back to my keyboard And thanks for this channel I've learned a lot and more to learn 😂✌❤
