This is a great bag but there are some flaws.
Would you say that the 30L might be a better option?
@@JVIizz possible but I’m only 5’4 and I was afraid the bigger bag would be too big on my back.
@@AmesWay ah awesome thanks so much for your reply
Anytime. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the honest review 🙏 No bag is perfect and I’d rather know about the downsides of a bag when comparing to buy than only the praises.
It’s so true that no bag is perfect!
The Shimoda Urban Explore is more akin to a day pack than an international travel bag. The Explore V2 or Action X V2 offer more useful features for global travel.
Thanks!
I have the EV2 - 35L and it rocks for international travel. Considering the one in Amy's video for EDC. Appreciate the review.
@@drob00spy thanks you. I’ll have to check that bag out too
I doubt I am the only viewer who gets annoyed when the size option never gets mentioned in the title, description, or intro.
Sorry. It’s the 25l
I have the 30L if anyone is interested. Took it on one trip. Still looks brand new. Just not for me.
If I missed it I’m sorry but it would help if you say which size bag you have. 20L? 25L? 30L?
Sorry about that. 25l
Ummm First off! Thank you so much for making this video the way you did and packing the hell out of that bag on camera. I've been on the fence with this bag for a while. Love the look but I always push my backpacks beyond their limits and this solidified, I should probably look at something else for over stuffing. By chance, do you have any experience with the Shimoda Explore V2? Wondering if I can pack more into that. Either way thanks for this video! Sub!
Thank you so much! I think you’re making the right choice by looking at other bags if you want to “stuff” this bag. I do think this is a great bag if you’re not packing it full. I’m sorry but I do not have any experience with the other bag. Thanks for watching! I appreciate you.
Thanks for taking the time to make a follow up review on the Shimoda Urban. Your initial review along with others during the Kickstarter campaign was what made me pick up the 25 L as well. It just seemed like it checked off all the boxes. But I ran into the same... I wouldn't say problems. But rather annoyances (?) as you and others after using it for a few months. I do feel that the bag doesn't have much space for things other than cameras. The little extra compartments the bag offers are fairly impractical, especially the front pouch (it can't store much and is so tight you cant see what's in there).
It feels more like I'm walking around with a camera box with straps (like in the anime Demon Slayer, Tanjiro is carrying his sister Nezuko in a wooden box). But it sure does feel well built!
Thanks for your comment. I still do think it’s a great camera bag and very well built. I’ve come to the conclusion that I’ll never find the perfect bag so I am glad that I have a few to choose from. In my next long trip, I’ll be trying out my Brevite Jumper and see how that does while traveling.
I must have missed it, what size was that? I'm assuming 25L b/c it didn't fit under the seat. TBH, I wanted to like this bag, but after lots of reviews I have dropped this off my list.
It is the 25l. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a great bag. Just a few things that I don’t like about it
One thing I didn't hear is what size the bag is. I've been waffling between the 20 and 25. I like the 20 for keeping me from carrying too much gear but worry that it might be a little too small. Actually, I think I need to 25 to support my 16" MBP. 🙂
This is the 25l
No waist strap to carry a heavier load was a huge mistake on the designer's end. Looks great but not very practical as well since it doesn't expand to include items other than camera gear.
I agreed!
I just got mine yesterday, after some others mentioned that the bags was comfy even packed out. I didn't fully pack mine, so now I am very curious. I did get it mostly as an EDC bag, but I am usually bringing a camera with a lens attached, lens, flash, and gorillapod.
I think with just that you'll be fine. I packed mine out to the max because I was traveling across the world.
I’ve watched a few of your vids today and it’s clear that you’re a natural at this TH-cam biz. Subbed.
Thank you so much! I really appreciate that.
Great review Amy. Sounds like your Shimoda Explore bag would be better used as a EDC bag as you mentioned. I’ve yet to get mine out on a shoot yet. But I know I’ll have to be very choosy about what lenses I take with me. (How was the zipping and unzipping experience?) 💜💜💜
Hey TC! Thanks for watching. The zippers are great! Biggest downside for me is not standing up on its own. I love a bag that does. It’s a great bag overall. I love how my gear fits inside. I’ve only taken it on this one trip so far so I have to test it some more.
@@AmesWay Yes, I noticed mine not standing up very well too. 💜
I have the bag and I agree with everything you said. I wonder if the wandrd backpack would have been a better choice?
There’s good things about the Wandrd as well but I still like how things fit in this one better.
does this fit underneath airplane seats as a personal item?
never mind you answered it for me. Thank you!
@@JoanAvilez I went over that in the video. It does but only backwards
get some socks or something and see if you can put them in the rain cover pouch on the bottom. You may be able to position them to where the bag will stand on its own.
🙏
Helpful review - thank you!
@@meandmybooks thanks for watching!
They made really good Explore and Action series but I feel like they dont know how to make everyday backpack. Things are super tight and there are not many accessible pockets.
I totally agree with what you said!
tbh Im pretty sure that "pocket" on the back was designed to fit a waist belt (which is not included even at the high pricing)
@@XianFish27 I do believe it’s advertised as a hidden passport pocket
Did you try removing the rain cover from its pocket to see if the bag could stand up on its own without it? I heve the 20 liter but it definitely has some major flaws; I ordered internationally so I had to pay duties and shipping and that was not cheap, other wise I'd return it, it definitely disappointed me.
I have not but that’s a good idea! Thanks I’ll give it a try. That sucks about the fees. I ordered during the kickstarter so no returns allowed either way.
Removing the rain cover and placing it elsewhere allows my bag to sit upright. I keep it on the little space above the camera cube for easier access too.
@@darwinngo 👍
@darwinngo I’ll have to try that out. Thanks!
Love from india 🇮🇳
Thank you 🙏
um~ seems I should stay with my Explorer v2, seem this bag is not comfortable as explorer
I think it depends on how much you load it up. I had it loaded to the max so it was really heavy.
I had the same concern about the passport pocket. I don't' think I'll end up using it. I still have been using my explore v2 more. I have also been disappointed that the capture clip feature is only on 1 side.
I agree with the clip placement too. My biggest complaint is still that it doesn’t stand up on its own.
maybe you can add Shimoda HD Belt to improve during the long travel?
That’s definitely an idea. Thanks!
