Brian’s vibrato is sublime. I enjoy this series. Keep it up!
Appreciate your support. 😎 I was surprised by how delicate of a touch Brian has -- precisely because his vibrato is so strong and Queen is usually so huge, lol. There's more "naked guitarist" vids coming for sure, I'm glad you've enjoyed the others!
Another distinctive part of Brain's sound is his amplification. I have not been fortunate enough to see him perform live, but legends say he plugged into as many as nine VOX AC30 amplifiers all "daisy chained" together.
Cool detail. Thanks for that input.
Brian simply stands alone in his sound, not just because of his guitar, but because of his playing as well, and both are manifestations unique to him. His guitar came into existence from his mind (and his dad), and through his hands. The same mind and hands create the melodies, and form their sonic characteristics. He is blessed to have been able to create his own instrument with which to make the music that would come forth from his spirit. The rest of us have to use an instrument that was mass produced. Imagine the fully individualised sound we would all have if we could do like Brian, and starting with a clean sheet, create our own instrument. I guess, on some level, many of us still attempt to approximate that sort of thing with mods of various kinds, like pickups, bridges, pots etc. We want to mold a sound that agrees with what we hear in our minds and spirits, hence the practically endless "tone chasing".
Absolutely fantastic have a wonderful weekend ❤😊
Thank you! You too! 😎😎
You want a real revelation and challenge for this premise? Do this same thing for the late Allan Holdsworth. AH had impeccable tone and taste, but even without his signature gear, he just sounded like Allan. Drove many guitarists nuts! There’s a great video of Jamie Glaser from Jean Luc Ponty, who replaced Allan when Al went on to play in Bruford. Jamie bought Al’s amps, asked him for his settings, finished a tour covering Allan’s parts. At the end, someone played Jamie Al’s original guitar parts on the recording and he was flabbergasted. Jamie is a fine player, but there will always be only ONE Allan Holdsworth. A guitarist’s sound is primarily in HIS HANDS. Gear helps many aspects of one’s playing, but ultimately, we each have our own, unique sound. Some more unique than others.
Appreciate the suggestion! Derf. look into it!
The guys an astrophysicist..he knows what hes doing
Another aspect of Brian’s distinctive tone is that he long been known to place a mic BEHIND his speakers on his amps, which gives a slightly out of phase, less of the fundamental, tone. Another thing not mentioned here, is his multitracking skill. On many of Queen’s early albums, Brian has multi layered arrangements displaying great arrangement skill and production moxy. He layered multiple guitar tracks to create horn like and keyboard like parts in arrangements, such as on Bohemian Rhapsody. Sir Brian is a much better musician and guitarist than most actually can understand. Most guitarists would be unable to duplicate Brian’s classic parts from recordings.
Great observations!
Brain is a amazing guitar player. I could pick his sound out of a line up of a hundred different players. Same with Gene Krupa on drums, with his style.
Very vocal oriented player. He is incredibly melodic but seems to shy away from the staple licks and is able to create very memorable and relatable melodies that perfectly fit the song structure.
You're right about the "staple licks" thing. He does seem to be always searching for something a bit surprising. I should have stressed that a bit more in the vid. it's an important part of his style.
There are a lot of videos of him just playing alone, If he wants to he can shred with the best of his era.
Hmm... interesting. I tells me studio processing and mixing make a huge difference to the final sound.
Yeah....I taught Brian how to play guitar and, I tutored him in maths for many years. That's a known fact.
Great video have you a video on the one and only Ted Nugent thanks.
Thanks for your support! Yep, I've got one on Ted. th-cam.com/video/-rUYfWKHX1o/w-d-xo.htmlsi=aPbDyW0AArV6CTCq
