    How refreshingly honest to hear that for some people, for example a petite older woman like me who wants to stay very slim, 450 cals per lb of (mostly raw) food is what I need rather than the average 600, which would be too rich for me. I eat legumes a few times a month only and (sweet) potatoes rather than wholegrains every other day. I might introduce pasta again but it will be very carefully and I'll treat it as an experiment. I eat a couple of nuts a week and no seeds. Occasionally I'll have some minimally processed food that may contain a bit of oil like falafel, hummus or a pasta sauce but I will then reduce the calories somewhere else, for example I'll have the pasta sauce on microwave-in-a-bag riced cauliflower (delicious) instead of pasta. After decades of bingeing and yo-yo dieting (it started age 12), 4 years ago I finally lost the weight for good thanks to a WFPB way of eating and absolutely no junk in the house. I'm only happy and only feel good and look great in clothes when I'm very slim as extra fat is distributed very unevenly around my body (all in the wrong places!) so I like being very slim. I have maintained my slim weight for 4 years and counting. I have cravings from time to time, but they pass when your tummy is full of delicious whole plant food. Besides, no food, however delicious, is worth feeling bad about yourself and I know that if I indulged in trigger foods I would feel fat and ashamed and very possibly the floodgates would open after the first bite, so not worth it. Nothing beats feeling comfortable wearing fitted clothes or slim jeans that hang a bit loose, whatever your age. My overweight friends are often angry, defensive and aggressive, I've had to distance myself from them. They say that they're happy being fat when this is clearly not the case but won't take any advice and they eat less than me. Being overweight affects their mood and mental health as well as their physical health and general wellbeing. Becoming WFPB was the best decision I've ever made and a great achievement in my life as I'd lost hope I'd ever achieve and maintain my desired weight, so I can't thank enough Dr Lisle, Dr McDougall, Chef AJ, Dr Barnard and all the wonderful people and health professionals in the WFPB community.

    Oh AJ... Goldhamer's email to you "food ...just needs to not taste bad." I used almost that same language talking to my mother. I asked her "how were the sweet potatoes, green beans, broccoli, and avocado?" and She said, "well....it was sort of plain...I just ate it because I was hungry" to that I said, "well...you ate it when you were hungry, right? I assure you, when you get hungry again, you'll want more of it. That's how food is SUPPOSED to work."

    • @pixelated.peachyangel
      @pixelated.peachyangel 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nope. He explains many times that waiting to be extremely hungry is bad because it makes it more likely to binge. You regolate intake so if you eat more when not hungry you wouldn't eat more later.

      Right! That's exactly how it supposed to be.
      However, in the modern environment, many ppl want a little bit more flavor, when knowing what's out there.
      Eating this plain might people to kick over the table m it works for many, but for many this level is also not necessary.
      However I really like the mindset. Your everyday meal shouldn't have to be a taste explosion, but just good enough and make you full.
      When I was a kid we sometimes just had potatoes soup for dinner. Very blend. Nothing exciting. But good enough for your everyday meal.
      Then you can make say tacos with different spices and flavors in the weekend, with maybe added avocado if that works for you, etc.
      I think that's probably a reasonable middle ground for many.

    I find it interesting Dr. Lisle is what I would call on the periphery of gaining a significant audience. The podcast "Beat Your Genes" is my favorite podcast, ask Doug a question and he can go on a riff for the whole show, and I'll be spellbound the entire time. These nuggets that Dr. Lisle drops during his talk are more in a few minutes than the drivel of listening hours to these mainstream psychologists.

    Yeah, when I lost my peanut butter weight in 2020/2021 my weight loss followed a nice neat glide slope, (a limit). In November 2020, my weight loss was three pounds per month, but in 2021, it was 1/2 pound per month, and in 2022, it was about a quarter pound per month, until just last month it was about a tenth of a pound, and this month it is about zero (as it should be since I am at 162 pounds at 6'2" tall.) So, when approaching biological equilibrium, the weight loss slows as the weight loss progresses. The same phenomenon occurs when gaining weight on a given caloric density.

Spent thousands of dollars on supplements, naturopaths, I moved to two different countries, spent countless years in 12 step programs. Still fat and heartbroken. After listening to this, I have a piece of the puzzle that is giving me some hope. THANK YOU SO MUCH !

    What helped me with junk foods later on in life was reading packages and watching my mother in-law cook. When you see what is actually in a cheese cake, it's hard to believe. When the foods come all nicely made in a finished form, they do not look that "dangerous". Read the ingredient lists! I never buy anything with coconut or palm oil for example. In natural food stores is a lot of garbage. When Rapunzel, an organic food company in Germany, came out with "organic" Nutella (their recipe), I knew the health aspects of these stores was out; they had to provide what average consumers wanted to just stay open.

    One of my young family members overeats. He generally needs lots of stimulation and excitement in life. I sometimes think he needs more food/stimulation to get the dopamine hit so this video suggests the opposite. It’s making me think! I do think he gets the wow factor from food that I’m happy to taste but can take or leave it. It all seems quite complicated! He’s definitely influenced by what people are eating around him. He won’t miss out on anything. Thank you for the video , thought provoking…

    You'd never guess that I have a food addiction issue. I'm slim, I've pretty much always been slim, and people have generally commented that I have a lot of "willpower" that I'm a "health nut" and so on.... Well, you stick a jar of peanut butter under my nose, and not only will that jar of peanut butter be gone in about 5 minutes, I will have ordered 24 more jars....each of which will be eaten in a luxuriously decadent half hour, each night over the ensuing three weeks, and I will order 48 more. And I will eat those too. The only thing I can do, is avoid it.
    In 2020 I went and gained nearly 30 pounds in a few months eating a pound of peanut butter every night, and sometimes two (my thin privilege hard at work for me) but just as soon as I caught my head, and stopped it, the weight fell off, AND my cravings for the stuff went away too.

I can have peanut butter in the house though even though it is delicious I am able to eat it in moderation (never more than 2 flat teaspoons) when I decide to do so. Then eliminate added (refined) sugar and eat natural foods like fruit (nature's sweets), sweet potatoes, kabocha/butternut squashes. Try not to use sweeteners either. The less added sugar, salt or oil (SOS) you ingest the better as they are refined/processed ingredients that will make you want to eat more and encourage weight gain/fluid retention.
