      You brothers did an exceptional job reviewing your base Model 3! You covered all of the basic items, but I wish that you had said that you can setup lots of drivers, saving dozens and dozens of personal preferences. The massive car publications always complain about how long it takes to adjust the steering wheel, where the smart ones know how to program preferences. Even a Rolls Royce only has three programmable buttons, and just for the basics.

      Standard range means more than 220 Miles of 100% range. Less features, less capabilities and it’s the Model 3 very few want. In practical terms, it’s a 150-160 miles no thrills basic EV not selling except for the desperate few. It’s far from a “steal” as a Tesla. Thanks

While it may be a controversial car, there's no denying the feature set and performance for a vehicle with a mere $35,000 starting price! There are thousands of TH-cam videos on the Tesla Model 3 but I trust your reviews and you did not disappoint on this in-depth review. I would love to own a Model 3 but have concerns about reliability and repair costs over the life of the vehicle. Please continue follow-up videos throughout your ownership of the vehicle. Both of you work hard and this was a much deserved purchase for the two of you. All the Best.

    • @aussie2uGA
      @aussie2uGA 4 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      I have over 40,000mi on mine now and have yet to see the dealer for anything. Early adopters were very vocal about "fit and finish" issues and these fell into reliability. Remember a Tesla drive train has only 18 moving parts and it and the battery have been extremely reliable.

    • @jonathanguito1168
      @jonathanguito1168 4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      I'll chime in with what Aussie said and add that the batteries in the Model S, which are an older gen tech, have gone as long as 300k miles before needing to be replaced (Model 3 with newer tech is expected to be even more reliable, being good for 300-500k miles). As most people drive about 12-15k miles per year, and few people own a car beyond 15 years, there's a good chance you'll never have to worry about your battery. And should something ever happen to your battery, the car has a 120k/8 year battery warranty for any failure or excessive range loss (30%+ EPA range). Note that most Model S vehicles report less than 10% range loss in 100k miles. Model 3 looks like it'll be more like 5% range loss (or less).
      As far as motors are concerned, they're rated for a million mile life.
      I own an AWD, and I've never had to go to a service center for any reliability issue after the first year and a half. But there are many other Tesla owners with cars far older who still haven't had to go.
      Best of all, the car will continue to improve after purchase due to the OTA updates, and this includes efficiency, safety and lifespan improvements as well. It's I believe the best car for the money on the road today.

    Great review guys. This configuration is a total steal, amazing value for the features for sure, I agree.
    A couple killer features I didn't see in the review were how *voice* *commands* work, and how the vehicle has a *route* *planner* where it can organize your trip including where to stop for charging along the way and how may stalls are available and how much charge you'll have and such.
    The voice command in the current update basically lets you control most functions in the vehicle, very nice improvement.

My in-laws are getting the $35,000 base like yours, but adding the Autopilot ($3,000) after purchase with their credit card (to get the points) as the insurance discount will eventually pay for it.

    Great review! Very few reviews are made regarding the SR version which is a shame because this model realistically checks most boxes for what people are looking for and meets the needs of the vast majority of people looking for a quality vehicle while offering outstanding value at a cost that's right in line with the average price of a new car. According to the Edmunds Automotive Information Website the average price of a new vehicle in 2019 was $36,718. That's up from the Kelley Blue Book average price of $35,742 for a new vehicle in 2018.

      If you are able to, install your own charger at a condo or home (or apartment). Local utilities may rebate the cost of the tesla wall charger. You do have to pay installation which can run up to 2,500 or more I live in a condo and it cost me 2,100 for charger install (had to install a sub panel and long conduit to my parking space). BUT I have recouped over half in just one year with not paying for gas plus I have a full tank (so to speak) every day. Most software updates are free - dash cam feature added, games, youtube, web browse improvements, sentry mode were all added for free AFTER got the car. Minimal service - tires, breaks ( should last 70,000 or more with regen breaking, battery coolant change every 4 years, wiper fluid am I missing anything else?

    I don’t know where to begin! Great review as always, and I’m sure it has special significance being your own vehicle. I’m am really liking the on camera intros and other commentary...with a bit more experience, you’ll both be pros! There is no question that Tesla is a visionary company that is producing truly remarkable products. Their innovations in design, engineering, technology and manufacturing are changing the industry, and will leave an impressive legacy for the evolution of EV’s. In regard to your car, I really like the white exterior, black interior combination. I also agree that for the price, it’s a bargain, especially when you take into account the over the air updates. That said, I still think the charging infrastructure and duration is a barrier for many (especially those of us in condos and apartments where it’s currently not practical to charge at home), but electric is the future. It’s just a question of how quickly the barriers can be overcome. I’m surprised you didn’t include a Tesla referral link?

      The Supercharger network is the largest in the world, and in the US this year they are opening up stations in the more barren mid-western states. Cross-country/continent travel is available in the UK, Europe, US and Canada. China is another place rapidly expanding the network, so the reach is continuously growing.
      Apartments and Condos with share parking spaces can have a home or destination chargers fitted.
      Owners with no home chargers use the smaller urban and/or Superchargers and adjust their charge planning to morning, during work (if their work has/can install an EV charger) or at night. Usually picking the closest ones to them.
      V3 Superchargers where available are the best to use for the fueling like speeds. They charge at up to 250kW, so 75 miles of range in five minutes or a rate of 1,000 miles per hour.

It's just pure pleasure and fun to drive! I will never drive an ICE car again - they just don't compare to this experience. If you tried this car for a week you would understand. Oh. I liked the video and learned a bit more about the model 3. My biggest gripe with Tesla is the lack of information on their website regarding features and specifications. That said, it does appear to be a good value. Question: Does the Model 3 have a 2 or 3 position driver seat memory feature? This is a requirement for us since I'm 5'10" and my better half is 5'3"
    I don't know where you guys live, but here in the pacific northwest winter temperatures usually range from the high 30's to the high 40's. What are you getting for range in the winter? My Chevy Bolt gets about 250 miles in the summer and down to 150-160 miles in winter using the heater.

    • @CarConfections
      @CarConfections  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! There are no memory seat buttons, instead it is simply one of the many factors saved into the driver profiles that are attached to your key (phone). It'll adjust both short and long distances. In regards to the winter range, we haven't really tested it a bunch yet. It stays outside so we have learned that it has to be plugged in to keep the battery warm. The first week we let the battery get 'cold soaked' at 20 degrees and range was about half (100 miles)

    very informative, thanks! One question regarding cruise control on your $35k model: is it adaptive and hold speed with traffic? For example, if set to 65mph, will it allow the car to come to a full stop and accelerate back to the full speed? (The model S and I assume all other Model 3s do that, just wondering if that is something that is not in the $35k version...)

    • @CarConfections

      @The_DuMont_Network 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

It will NOT, however, sense or respond to stop signs, stop lights or other traffic controls.

      I would use caution here. If this is not completely accurate, routinely charging to 100% is a no-no with this type of battery chemistry. Regen braking is reduced when batt is at 100%... I charge to 100% only when I am leaving on a trip within the hour, as recommended.
      ISTR that the larger capacity battery is physically different, with more cells. However, comma, Tesla changes things as they progress, and this may no longer be true.

    In case we decide to get one do you have a referral code? I see other people doing reviews and they give a code out.
