Hi guys, great vids, yes rangers have a smart alternator and won’t charge your house batteries. If you don’t have a dc to dc charger installed you’ll need to get on fitted. Also after watching the caravan tour vid, a tip I learnt , don’t travel with trays dishes in your oven as they can break the glass if they move around. Same with the microwave oven plate, I always put ours in the magazine rack or in secure place. Cheers 👍
Hi Jules! Thanks for the tip, we didn't realise this but now we are looking into getting a DC to DC charger to avoid this issue in future!! Also great idea on the tray/dishes etc, definitely something we will be doing, last thing we want to do is open the caravan to find broken glass everywhere!!! Thanks for watching!!!
Innes National Park, Pondelowie, the drive from Marion Bay to Corny Point has magnificent beaches and the Dustbowl. I see other vids of the bottom end of YP that miss the very best of Yorke Peninsula. The drive from Troubridge through Sturt Bay, Foul Bay to Marion Bay. Some of the best sandy beaches you will see anywhere in the country. The Bottom end is more than Pt Turton, and the boring stony beaches up the top of the peninsula.
We so wanted to do Innes National Park, but since we didn’t originally plan to do YP and squeezed it in last minute, we didn’t have enough time!😔 Next time!!
Hi Ian, thanks so much for watching! We wish we could have spent more time in Yorke Peninsula as well, we didn't have it planned in originally, so we are just happy we did get to do, even just for a few days. We are currently on the Eyre Peninsula which we've already been here a couple of weeks (episodes coming soon!) but there are definitely some places so far on EP which we would love to stay longer..... maybe on our 2nd lap ;)
Ohhh I cant believe you missed Marion Bay ! The most rugged and beautiful coast you will ever see ! It's all national park so you couldn't take Archie but you can still see quite a bit of the coastline . A coal Ship run aground and you can still pick up coal on the beach !
Hey Linda. We actually did manage to pop down to Marion Bay and had lunch down there while we were staying at Warooka. Didn’t make it into the National Park because of Archie, but did have a bit of a walk around there and walked up to the lookout. It was very windy and grey so didn’t include the footage in the video. So hard to include everything we see - wouldn’t want to inflict a 2 hour video on people 😂🤣😂🤣😂
Great Vids.... Enjoy SA! EP is awesome as well, hopefully you'll have a chance look around therein you have the time. With Your car not charing your caravan battery there could be many things at play. I'm not sure how Crusader set up the vans for vehicle charging so might be a little difficult to guess but one thing I'd check is if your ranger has a smart alternator. If it does, that could be giving you voltage drop issues by the time it gets to your van charger if the ignition sense is not connected but there may be other issues at play. Could be worth asking Crusader how the van is set up and checking to see if your ranger has the smart alternator as a starting point. I imaging that your van has an AGM battery? If it does, try not to deplete more than 50% of the capacity if you can and charge it back up as soon as you can as it will extend the service life of the battery.
Hi Ivan! Glad you’re enjoying the videos. We’re on the Eyre Peninsula now actually, so you’ll see that footage in a couple of weeks. Having a great time here too! Thanks for the advice re the battery - will def ask Crusader how it all works so we know for certain! 👍
Thank you , enjoying the travels. Hopefully you can work out the batteries before you get into the outback just remember approx 50% AGM , 80% lithium drain before you start doing damage to the battery.
Hi Stewart. Thanks for the feedback - didn’t know about the 50% minimum - will ensure we stay above that going forward, as we have dropped below a couple of times. 🤦♀️
We did think about getting one, however if we changed anything, would probably upgrade to Lithium batteries first. Issue with a Gennie is weight, we are already heavy enough, they also make alot of noise!
We try to avoid filling up while we have the caravan, but if we absolutely need to, find a fuel station with plenty of clearance. We’ve never had to unhitch to fill up yet! 🤞😀
Watching your lates video and noticed your battery power was at 25%. If you use standard AGM deep cycle batteries you will cause damage to them. Your vehicle should be using a dc to dc charger to charge batteries whilst driving putting in around 40ah per hour. I use lithium batteries. I suggest you use 200ah lithium. It puts out the same Amount of power as 3 1/2 100ah agm at a third of the weight. I suggest you have 600watts of solar. Then you can go off grid with no problems. Cheers
Hi Ken, Thanks for the tip! Yea we'll need to put more thought into our off grid planning and ensure we have enough to keep our charge higher than 50%. We thought about upgrading to Lithium during build stage but decided against it, wish we had got them now haha!
Hi To charge your van battery, you'll need a dcdc charger. Redarc do a good 1. Your car may run the fridge, but not charge the battery without the dcdc. If you need more info please hit me up. Please follow us Hinkleys Holidays.

So interesting wonderful trip 😘
Thanks Joan! Thanks for watching!!
We are loving your content! Great job.
Thanks so much for watching and giving the great feedback!! 👍
Yorke and Eyre Peninsulas are near the top of the list on our bucket list. Shame you didn't have some more time there.

@@StaycationOz not carrying a " Gennie"?
If not maybe think obout one.

Good advice above. Lithium sounds the way to go. Cheers!🙆🌳🌞
How do you go filling up with fuel at servo's do you have to unhitch or is access okay?
We try to avoid filling up while we have the caravan, but if we absolutely need to, find a fuel station with plenty of clearance. We’ve never had to unhitch to fill up yet! 🤞😀

Hey There, Thanks for the information, we didn't know this, might have to get this arranged before we start doing more off grid trips!!
If I can assist any further, feel free to ask
