  • Light the World Giving Machines have returned to Utah for the 2022 Christmas season. Festivities were held at University Place in Orem, Utah - one of 28 locations around the world - on Tuesday, November 22, 2022, to unveil the bright red vending machines.
“The holiday is a perfect time for us to recognize the true gift of Jesus Christ to the world and our lives and the gifts that we're giving in commemoration of His birth,” said Elder Evan A. Schmutz, a General Authority Seventy and member of the Utah Area Presidency, who shared a Christmas message at the Orem event.
The unique machines, sponsored by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, give the public a fun and memorable opportunity to donate and serve local and international charities during the holidays.

What a great initiative! I always carry grocery gift cards for the homeless. I'd love to see the Giving Machines more worldwide. Good job Saints! Light the way!

😯❤️😃 I'm interested in how the machines do in Japan, since there's a vending machine for literally everything there! 🤔

Yet another way to de-personalize Christmas. Put your money in a vending machine and you won't have to face another Human being. Nice Plan.

You know, one can do this and also do other service that is face to face. It doesn't have to be a one and done service option. Everyone gets to choose how they serve.

Some things far distant can only be done in this kind of way….the church has to collaborate with others, that is how they get so much done….they cannot do it on their own. But the service hours they do give is incredible. You have to remember, we are growing, but we are still only so many.

Imagine getting mad that millions are being voluntarily given to help people.

This is a disingenuous charity effort by the Church, and is really intended as a Public Relations effort. Why do I say this? Well, they are only putting very few machines out, showing that they really don't care about engaging the community to help. In all of Utah, they have ONLY 2 LOCATIONS (Provo and Salt Lake City). Why don't they have like 20 locations across the entire State? Also, only 1 location in Las Vegas area (population of 2 million people). The idea is great, but the execution is phony...if they cared about getting donations from the community they'd put out more vending machines.
