    Best asparagus video I have seen! All others only speak to it “taking so long” never actually showing the size difference. Thank you for this! My asparagus is only 5 months old, so looks like yours around the same age, which makes me feel better

    Thank you! Every tutorial I sow on how to grow asparagus was in a the ground and I don't have a yard. Also everyone grow them from crowns. I don't have a yard and I have seeds so it seemed I don't have the conditions tho grow them. But here you are! Just like me and that gave me hope that I, too, can grow asparagus!

    Hi. How big is your final container? I am thinking of starting asparagus from seeds in seed pods then to gallon container then finally to 5 gallon bucket.

    • @YouPlantTube
      @YouPlantTube  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Generally, asparagus plants require a deep and spacious container to accommodate their long roots and allow for proper growth. Starting with seed pods and gradually transitioning to larger containers is a great approach.
      For mature asparagus plants, a 5-gallon bucket should provide enough space for each plant to thrive.
      Just ensure the container has good drainage and is filled with well-draining soil.
      Best of luck with your asparagus growing journey, and feel free to reach out if you have any more questions! 🌱😊

      asparagus doesn't care where its planted as long as it gets cool weather, good soil and food from time to time. I have a small asparagus farm in a bunch of used stock tanks (old feed / water troughs for animals) which counts as an above ground garden. I've been growing and eating asparagus from here for 10 years, I actually harvest and replant my own seed too. works great.

  • @caspergear

    Nice job. Took a super long time! I'm not patient enough 😅

    • @YouPlantTube
      @YouPlantTube  ปีที่แล้ว

      If you're patient and don't mind the wait then plant seeds, which also happens to be the cheaper option. The other option is to buy asparagus crowns preferably crowns which are at least 2 years of age so that in the third year you can start harvesting thick Spears. Thanks for the visit and your comment.

    Did you keep them full sun at all times?

    • @YouPlantTube
      @YouPlantTube  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      While I was growing them as seedlings and even in the paper cups and the larger pot I never gave them full sunlight all day, I only gave them full sunlight when I grew them in those water bottle containers, which asparagus plant didn't mind at all.

    So you eat one spear at a time..?

    • @YouPlantTube
      @YouPlantTube  28 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yes, typically you harvest asparagus spears one at a time as they reach the desired size. This allows the remaining spears to continue growing and ensures a prolonged harvest season. Enjoy your homegrown asparagus! If you have any more questions, feel free to ask! 🌱😊

    One plant can produce only one asparagus?

    • @YouPlantTube
      @YouPlantTube  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Great question! Actually, one asparagus plant can produce multiple spears throughout the season. It's a perennial crop, and with proper care, you can enjoy a continuous harvest. If you have any more questions or need tips, feel free to ask. Happy gardening! 🌱

    So growing apargus is a 2 year process?😢

    • @YouPlantTube
      @YouPlantTube  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Indeed, growing asparagus does require some patience as it's typically a 2-year process to harvest. But trust me, the wait is worth it for those delicious spears! 😊 If it's from seed, then three years will give you more of those preferred thicker asparagus spears as the roots will be more developed. If you have any questions or need tips along the way, feel free to ask. Happy gardening!

    I didn't know I needed to remove the "seeds" from the pods. I planted the entire pods. 🙄

    • @YouPlantTube
      @YouPlantTube  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No worries at all! The seeds can still grow in the pot, but removing them from the pods before planting provides better control and spacing.
      If the seeds are already in the pods, you can leave them be and see how they progress.so give it a shot. Just ensure they have good sunlight, proper watering, and soil conditions.
      It's all part of the gardening journey! Feel free to share updates, and if you have more questions, I'm here to help. Happy gardening! 🌱

      Once you have an established asparagus seedling it would be preferable to transplant it directly into the ground, But not everybody has acres of land accessible to them, the video is ideally for those who have limited space or may not have available space to transfer them into the ground directly at the time where it's necessary because of other things growing at that time at that place.
      The video was made in my backyard and not in vegetable Farm!

    Asparagus seeds are poisonous you should be using gloves! I hope you are ok ?

    • @YouPlantTube
      @YouPlantTube  20 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Thank you for expressing your concern! While it's true that asparagus seeds contain a toxic compound called saponin, it's primarily found in the red berries of the asparagus plant, not the seeds themselves. There's no real concern as long as you don't ingest the red berries, basic precautions would be to wash your hands if you need to remove the seeds from the berries.
      However, it's always a good idea to handle them with care, and gloves can provide an extra layer of protection. Thank you for watching and I appreciate your reminder about safety precautions.
