This is a cross between the Robin version as well as Callum Scott's version which was slowed down and very melancholic. I think they did a fantastic job with this song given the context behind it :)
Every time I see this video it makes me a little sad…but then I remember that Avi is much better off now doing what he loves and making beautiful music. Plus we got Matt! Who I think was the perfect fit for PTX. I love him ☺️

It's definitely a Christmas song, but I'll listen to Pentatonix doing Christmas any time of the year!

I heard from someone on the internet that this was a tribute to Avi after he left (?) Not sure if it was a song he liked, or if it subtlety referencing that they were on their own now, or if it completely false. If anyone knows I would love to see if there is any truth to this.

When Scott looks at the camera and sings, "I just came to say good-bye" and Kevin's face when he plays the cello solo were crushing. I'm fine with it all now and it's a beautiful cover, but this song said it all at the time.

Since this was a favorite of yours, I was expecting you not to like it so much, especially if the version you like is Robyn's synth-pop rather than her softer versions or the Calum Scott cover. Pentatonix released this in 2017, not long after Avi's departure, when they were still trying to figure out the best way to keep the group going, and I'm sure the message of the song was one reason they chose it. And the Calum Scott version would have been popular the previous year.
Now that you know they recorded this right after Avi announced he was leaving, watch b it again. You can really hear the sadness in their voice and the loss on their faces. I always think of Kevin's cello as an homage to Avi.

Kevin tuned Beyoncé (his acoustic cello) low so she could "sing" Avi's harmony line while Kevin was taking care of percussion, and looking like he'd burst into tears at any moment. And I always want to burst into tears myself when I watch this video. Avi's departure hit Pentatonix hard. Yes, it worked out okay - I think Matt is actually a better fit for the group and I know Avi is happier in his solo career - but goodbyes are always hard.

I don't think that you've reacted to Waving Through a Window. This is one of their few musical covers. It's from Dear Evan Hansen. A very strong emotional song. And I'm not usually a musical kind of guy.
For some reason I'm loving this song with just the four of them i dont know i think it wouldve sounded different with Matt because of how low he can sing and I personally think the song didn't need the hard bass that Matt and/or even Avi had

To be honest that was not the best I've heard from PXT. Don't get me wrong, it was alright, but not as good as the original or that british contestant Colum "something" on BGT some 6 or 7 years ago.
Calum Scott opened for Pentatonix during their 2018 tour, and he closed his set with his rendition of this song. (For most of the tour, he was followed by Echosmith, known for their multiplatinum single "Cool Kids".) Although it was certainly his best known song, I preferred "Hotel Room", because of the intensely personal meaning of the song, something which resonated with me.
