just came back from mulu. just discovered how adventurous those caves. how many nights were you and everyone in the cave? i just noticed perhaps more non malaysians explored the caves than malaysian themselves. appreciate the work that have been done letting us know how impressive the caves can be

Awesome!!! Cave swiftlets: convergent evolution or just bat wanna-bes? Do they plan to return to make that dive connection next year, and any idea how much new passage they found this year? Thanks!
I guess it's an example of convergent evolution. From what I understand the birds use a form of echolocation that is a little less precise than what bats use. We saw examples of the swiftlets running into walls and knocking themselves unconscious. Then after a number of minutes lying on the ground they'd wake up and take off again. Not sure about the plans for that sump. It can't be more than about 5 m long, but it's tight. I think the total survey was around 3.5 km. Low for a Mulu expedition, but the focus was on connections so there was a lot more pushing of crawls, digging, and aid climbing, which reduces the survey numbers. I was told that the caves are nearly all horizontal, but then I spent almost the entire expedition climbing.
Beautiful location, great video work too :) Love the intro, especially when you guys sung it yourselves lol
Another inspiring production! Thanks for sharing and thanks to the sponsors who made this possible.
Thanks!
