    I will always recommend "Lady in White". It's basically "A Christmas Story" as a horror film, especially given it ends around Christmas and has the main character narrating as an adult, as well as a healthy dose of Ray Bradbury with the depiction of small town childhood (I especially love the detail of "the city", implied to be NYC, visible on a clear day across the water). And yet, as you said, it does not shy away from the darker elements of the story, given it is about a serial killer of children, as well as a subplot of a wrongly accused suspect just because of who he is (hint, remember this is set in the 60s).

    The Lady in White is a real gem. I've been a fan ever since catching it on cable back in '89 or so.
    Beautifully written, directed, and acted, with a nice nostalgic feel that doesn't seem forced.

    Lady In White 👻 its nice to see someone finally talk about this film. I absolutely love this movie , it's not only nostalgic to me but very sentimental. Born in the early 80s, I grew up on horror films and this one especially was a favorite and I can't even tell you how many times I watched this movie. It's a murder mystery and ghost story , it has both Halloween and Christmas but I've always thought of it more of a Halloween film.

    • @KRhetor
      @KRhetor 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@carlosyamara That's one reason I love it. Most Halloween sequences in movies seem to be from an outside perspective, sort of like the parent put in charge of chaperoning all the trick-or-treaters. In this one you seem to be seeing everything through the eyes of little Margaret O'Brien and even though you know she isn't in any real danger, that makes it feel genuinely scary.

    I'm about the age of the lead kid in Lady in White. Saw It when it was new, loved it, watched it numerous times. Rewatched It recently and had totally forgotten about the subplot with the black janitor. It was a bold statement, and more the type of thing you'd expect to see in a 21st-century movie than an 80s flick.

      @@berniceeast7389 I really do too Bernice! It’s a fun, spooky setting and it’s actually creepy. The acting is pretty good and it has a feel about it. There are so many that are not main features that actually have those vibes. Even if the film quality isn’t top notch. They are still fun to watch☺️🎃

    Macaulay Culkin played a trick or treater in Midnight Hour. I still own a vhs copy of this film. Let's face it, it's never getting a blu-ray release, but I am super happy to see more people talk about this film.

    I would add HUSK to the list. It creates a whole new world involving curses, possessed scarecrows and…sewing. I really enjoyed it quite a bit. Good atmosphere and good acting and wonderful cinematography

    One Netflix horror- and or dark fantasy movie I really enjoyed was Nightbooks. I felt that it really captured the Halloween-Vibe while being an overall imaginative and stylish movie. It seems to me that it is quite underappreciated though and to me it's one of the best things that Netflix has ever done.

    Hi Daniel! Haunt was a creepy movie. You could almost imagine something like this actually happening. Also, Katheryn Winnick is sooo pretty. Same actress from the Vikings tv show right?

    Your decor looks great! The Midnight Hour is one of my Halloween favourites...I taped it when it was first on tv, and then found it on TH-cam. I think that I watched the WNUF Halloween special on TH-cam, and what a hoot! I think that I can catch it on Amazon Prime. And I just put The Lady in White on mt Amazon wish list.

    I like that you include such random movies... haven't heard of most of these! So fun! Can you do a vintage scary movie list? There are so many good ones!! I remember watching something about a Cat Woman from the 1950s... super bizarre lol yet fun for Halloween. Edit: It is called Cat People from 1942.

    "House of the wolf man" is a B&W tongue in cheek homage to the Universal Monsters. Most seem to mistake the parody for bad acting/dialogue. It stars Lon Chaney Jr's son. I might not recommend this but for the awesome final act which is really cool and unexpected. You can watch this on YT, but it's worth viewing it on HD for the full glory of said last act.

    There are 2 movies out there called "The Barn" and "The Barn 2", which are low budget, they were put together by the same actors, and it features Ari Lehman (drowned boy Jason Vorhees) as Dr. Rock... They are both setup in Halloween and even though they are low budget and cheesy, they are really good and definitely worth watching them back-to-back this season.

    Concerning " The Midnight Hour " and troubles with a release is probably music related. Music clearance for home video can really be tricky. Theatrical and Television right were always cleared. They couldn't even conceive of this phenomenon called home video coming along. On a non Horror note, It took MCA/Universal forever to clear the Hope-Crosby " Road " films. They had to clear songs with the writers, or the relatives of the writers, the estate of the writers if they have passed. " Happy Days " on home video ran into the same problems. WKRP in Cincinnati was a clearance nightmare. I remember " The Midnight Hour " during it's original broadcast. Shari Belafonte...so young.
