Thanks for this retrospective. I was a production assistant on Puppetmaster III. It was indeed slated to be shot in Romania, but switched to LA at the last moment. Principal photography was all shot in less than two weeks! Most of the interiors were filmed in the old LA stock exchange in downtown -- an amazing location. The two days we shot at Universal there were Santa Anna winds -- we had to be careful of things getting blown over! Guy Rolfe was a lovely man, I served as his chauffeur (i.e. ferried him to and from the set in my used Dodge Colt) for a few days. Ian Abercrombie was a really sweet fellow as well. Richard Lynch was a trip -- he looks scary but he was in fact quite a warm, kindly fellow (very eccentric though). I didn't get to know Sarah Douglas, but Aron Eisenberg was a real nice guy. I also played the German soldier carrying the gasoline can into the theater. Dave Decoteau was great, and had a lot of awesome stories about his early days in the business (and working for Ken Russell). It was my first job after moving across the country to Hollywood. When family and friends back home would ask "What are you up to?" I'd answer "I'm working on a movie about homicidal marionettes in Nazi Germany".
Honestly, I’m surprised your comment isn’t pinned, this was some really neat information, thanks for taking the time out of your day to let us know about your time working on the movie.
My dad, George Peck, was Dr. Magrew in Curse of the Puppetmaster. Can't wait for them to roast it in part 2! I was too young to watch it and see my dad die on screen when it came out, but since he's passed, I watch it every Halloween with my friends as our The Room. Ended up deciding to watch 4-6 after this to refresh myself before the next video. Oh boy I can't wait for them to talk about 6. What a steep drop in production quality.
They aren't continuity errors. The different Puppet Master movies take place in different universes, all part of the Puppet Master multi-verse. Puppet Master was way ahead of its time.
there's literally a full on cinematic universe and the coolest part, the film that connects EVERYTHING bride of the head of the family was never finished
@@ToylandChairman666 Him nailing the audition was one of my favorite parts of The Disaster Artist and it's a crime they left it out of the movie. "Kid, do you have a passport?"
I thought it was cool how Sestero researched Toulon and TRIED to give him a French accent....despite the fact that Guy Rolfe is in same film -- portraying the older Toulon...who has NO accent.
My father died the other day and these hack frauds are the only thing bringing smiles to my face. Beautiful bastards edit my brother and I grew up on full moon but the series ended to me with 4/5 good puppets versus small demons one. Which I remember liking at fifteen.
Small monsters are cheaper than big monsters. Small monsters that are supposed to look like puppets are cheaper than realistic monsters. Charles Band has always been sly.
I always thought he just had some obsession/fetish for dolls or tiny people. Dolls, Puppet Master, Dollman, Demonic Toys. And that's before get into simply small and normally inanimate like The Gingerdead Man.
I'm so glad you guys are touching on Puppet Master. I remember my grandfather renting me these from Blockbuster on Friday nights. I love these movies. I know they're a bit dumb, but man, they hit the right spot.
Ideally just one and two if they want to focus on good films. All of them if we want to see them punished. I think Jay and Rich would be the best pair for that.
God, I love this franchise. That said, I wouldn't wish a full series watch-through on just about anybody. You've got to REALLY love these characters to make it through half of the sequels.
I saw the first Puppet Master on SciFi as a little kid. I had to turn it off at the leech-woman regurgitation murder scene, which confused and scared me. "Dolls" is A+ schlock though, it's actually good
I worked with William Hickey on his last film in NYC. He was so frail that a Grip had to hold him up out of frame so that he wouldn't fall. He was a pretty prolific actor from films like "Prizzi's Honor" and he taught acting to a lot of famous people.
I watched the first eight "Puppet Master" films in one week a few years ago. I still can't convince myself to watch the other seven. 😆 FWIW, 3 and 4 are my favorites. I'm surprised Jay didn't note the similarities between "Puppet Master 2" and "The Abominable Dr. Phibes," which came out 19 years earlier. I actually call it "The Abominable Mr. Toulon."
The Puppet Master comics from Action Lab Comics actually does a really good job piecing all the films together in a continuity, including justification for why their moral alignment is so prone to change. It also allows a lot of characterization for the puppets themselves, whose spirits occupy a sort of limbo that they're all bound to, but at least they have each other for company.
That producer is the third person i heard of seriously considering killing Kinski btw, the others being Werner Herzog, and an unnamed chief of the Machiguenga tribe. Rightfully so i might add.
So glad this franchise is getting re:viewed. Unlike most bad movies I enjoy only second-hand, via TH-cam videos of people commenting or reacting to them, I tried to watch some of these movies. The inconsistent lore made me give up on it about two movies in. But I know a lot about most of them. Happy to get more second-hand immersion in this universe.
I love these complete horror film franchise retrospective they've been doing lately. As Jay would say "It's great!" I hope they keep 'em coming. I know you can find a million of these on TH-cam, but no one does it like these idiots.
It's merch from Canadian illustrator/author Kyle Beaudette. He's selling them on a site called Everpress. I don't know exactly how that site works, but it looks like a limited-time offer; it's currently labeled "19 days remaining".
Puppet Master seems like the Friday the 13th series. There's lots of great bits sprinkled throughout the series, but there's really no one great film that "has it all".
@8bitculture I was going to say, If only Final Chapter had a few minutes from the previous films tacked on at the beginning to pad out the runtime it would have it all. But then I double checked and it does lol So yes, I agree Final Chapter does have it all even though it's not my favorite. And I just watched all the Friday 13th movies for the first time in the last four days, including Freddy VS Jason
@@8bitculture Disagree, Final Chapter is missing the "iconic setting" of Camp Crystal Lake, the counselors, and the campers. It's basically a "killer in the woods" movie. It's entertaining, but lacks the backdrop that sets Friday the 13th apart from every other killer in the woods movie.
Crazy... I commented earlier on my relationship to Don Farmer only for you to cover the Puppet Master series where one of my partners worked on the effects. He also worked with "The Don". This is why I love this channel.

@therumjiggler6879 In fact, english isn't my first language, so I thought that "latter" could have been something I hadn't heard of.
@@na-ky8ou oh in that case it’s ladder, but with a thick Midwest accent .
@therumjiggler6879 🤣 Thanks for the info!
Alright Halloween has officially started now
This makes me so happy. I love these movies from when I was a kid (especially III). Next we need Sleepaway Camp haha
It’s so nice for Mike to edit Jack’s head during the review to appear larger than it actually is!
BLADE... the most evil looking... the kindly old scientist...
We can just sweep this ret-con under here... it doesnt have to make sense. That line delivery just got me. 😂
YEEEEESSSS!!!! FINALLY!!! I have actually waited for you too do this! (sadly...)
You have no idea how long i been waiting for dis. You know how long i been wait’n for dis? Wooo jay about to make a name for himself here!
These movies and the ghoulies ones got me loving watching ridiculous B movies. So ridiculous, so good.
Man I loved these movies growing up. Six Shooter was my favorite. 4 and 5 took such a weird turn with the Totems and demons, but those are probably the most connected movies of the whole series. Can't wait for the next vid!
Ended up deciding to watch 4-6 after this to refresh myself before the next video. Oh boy I can't wait for them to talk about 6. What a steep drop in production quality.
Ah yes, "center-out" design. Another brilliant term coined by RLM.
Works amazingly well for when you need to hotswap out on the down stroke
They aren't continuity errors. The different Puppet Master movies take place in different universes, all part of the Puppet Master multi-verse. Puppet Master was way ahead of its time.
You dig on multiverses?
André Toulon And The Multiverse of Puppets
There''s never been a thing in the films, but it's certainly a theory.
All held together like strings.... On a puppet
there's literally a full on cinematic universe and the coolest part, the film that connects EVERYTHING bride of the head of the family was never finished
I really hope for Part 2 they grab Greg Sestero for a 3 hour long deep dive into Retro Puppet Master
That would be incredible
You know half the comments are going to be "Oh hai, Mark!"
I couldn't care less about THE ROOM, but I would love to see Greg do an interview all about RETRO PUPPET MASTER.
Little Jay peeking around the expressions chart is so good
My father died the other day and these hack frauds are the only thing bringing smiles to my face. Beautiful bastards edit my brother and I grew up on full moon but the series ended to me with 4/5 good puppets versus small demons one. Which I remember liking at fifteen.
Sorry for your loss
I'm so sorry to hear that. Glad this is giving you some distraction from this horrible event in your life. My condolences to your family.
@@dman7668 very kind of you 🙏
Sorry to hear that. Damn you AIDS!
Thanks for all the awesome videos, guys! I love these videos to fall asleep to since they are all mostly dialogue, and I can just listen.
3:05 Not sure that Jack knows what bankruptcy is
lol exactly, that's the reason you file for bankruptcy protection, because liabilities greatly exceed assets
I appreciate Jack's commitment to Puppet Master bullshit.
That was a great video! Really enjoyed Jay and Jacks exploration of Puppetmaster films, even though I've never seen one.
Need a re:View for every stupid horror franchise I've seen at most one installment of please and thank you.

Great to see Jack again, to me he is still an integral part of what makes RLM great.
the guests/friends are equally what make RLM great as do the core 3 of Jay, Rich and Mike Bagans.

As someone alive for the death of video stores, Puppet Master was a big rent even at the end, the covers were always super unique and eye catching.
Thank you for this! Loved these movies!
Earlier this year, I actually did a full series watch of these. It was both amazing and extremely painful.
I’m so sorry for your losses (you had to watch the Puppet Master movies (aside from 3 that one’s fun))
1-3 are fun movies
1-3 are the fun ones. Everything else is for the bin.
1-5 are good. The first 3 are great. 4 & 5 tho it kinda drags
I was so excited to watch the first one years ago and was so fucking bored when I finally did.
I would say 1-5 are enjoyable. After that it just nosedives.
RLM is so good lately. Keep it up guys! Proud of you.
Me an hour ago: shut up Jay, how dare you tell me I don't like Puppet Master I love Puppet Master
Me now: well I'll be damned
Nostalgia is a wild drug
I'm so glad you guys are touching on Puppet Master. I remember my grandfather renting me these from Blockbuster on Friday nights. I love these movies. I know they're a bit dumb, but man, they hit the right spot.
I always knew mike and jay were working “Rich” as a puppet.
Best channel of All Time here:
I've had the theme song stuck in my head recently, so glad this goofy series is getting some RLM focus.
I really enjoy these videos where the guys talk about movies they like, rather than the ones they have to endure.
RLM talks Puppet Master?!? I AM IN HEAVEN!!!
Same.
"Every sequel feels like a reboot that ignores the previous movies"

We need a re:View of Hellraiser.
Yes, yes and YES!!!
1, 2, 3 and 5 are awesome, every other is an absolute mess.
Haven't seen the most recent film with lady pinhead however. Is it worth a watch?
Ideally just one and two if they want to focus on good films. All of them if we want to see them punished. I think Jay and Rich would be the best pair for that.
@@rhysthomas14 No, it's not.
its heartwarming that jay shaved his head out of solidarity for jack's baldness 🥰
God, I love this franchise. That said, I wouldn't wish a full series watch-through on just about anybody. You've got to REALLY love these characters to make it through half of the sequels.
finally! was hoping you guys would talk about these movies!
I saw the first Puppet Master on SciFi as a little kid. I had to turn it off at the leech-woman regurgitation murder scene, which confused and scared me. "Dolls" is A+ schlock though, it's actually good
While I do enjoy Puppet Master, Dolls is unironically one of my favorite movies.
*Dolls* is one of the most underrated and lesser known horror films I've ever seen. It really scared the hell out of me when I was a kid.
I've thought for so long that the Puppetmaster series is exactly up Jay's alley. These movies were the perfect level of schlock
The Puppet Master comics fill in the potholes between films
Toulon."
Worked on 4 and 5. Can't wait to see your next video!!!
Where is the Megalopolis Review you Hackfrauds?!?

The first Half in the Bag: Spotlight episode? Josh makes his triumphant return.
That’s coming out when their review of The Batman comes out
PUPPET MASTER RULES been waiting for these
I think Jay has officially entered his “punishment phase”.
Punished Jay: A Hack Denied His Manhole
The Puppet Master comics from Action Lab Comics actually does a really good job piecing all the films together in a continuity, including justification for why their moral alignment is so prone to change. It also allows a lot of characterization for the puppets themselves, whose spirits occupy a sort of limbo that they're all bound to, but at least they have each other for company.
I’ve been enjoying Jay’s Breaking Bad side character arc
Jack is always a delight. Top marks for his choice of shirt!
Finally someone talks about Klaus Kinski :) Legendary freak outs to be found on TH-cam.
That producer is the third person i heard of seriously considering killing Kinski btw, the others being Werner Herzog, and an unnamed chief of the Machiguenga tribe. Rightfully so i might add.
Been waiting for this one for years great video and love the chart and seeing Jack 👏🏻
"Two guys recap Puppet Master to you, one of them is a little high, the other one is VERY high" simulator
18:55 There's one scene in Puppet Master II where you can clearly see the person's hand moving along the bottom of the screen.
I need that D&D shirt like now.
Yes, we need them in bulk!!
I only found some other design, but not this one.
@jack packard: We need a link here my dude!
It's merch from Canadian illustrator/author Kyle Beaudette. He's selling them on a site called Everpress. I don't know exactly how that site works, but it looks like a limited-time offer; it's currently labeled "19 days remaining".
This thumbnail has had me laughing for the last day. It never stops cracking me up lmao
Puppet Master seems like the Friday the 13th series. There's lots of great bits sprinkled throughout the series, but there's really no one great film that "has it all".
I fully agree with you on Puppet Master, but I truly feel like Friday The Final Chapter has it all
@8bitculture I was going to say, If only Final Chapter had a few minutes from the previous films tacked on at the beginning to pad out the runtime it would have it all. But then I double checked and it does lol
So yes, I agree Final Chapter does have it all even though it's not my favorite.
@@underwaterlevelz1947 I'm guessing 6 is your favorite?
