It's still beautiful. Thank you for Tahoe update. The 40 years of living in Tahoe, I shoveled my car out, now I dont necessary need to shovel it out because i have 3 garages! It's a trade off. Here at my house in RedHawk , Wingfield Springs, Sparks, we have 6 inches as of Saturday morning. Our wind started on Thursday, I had to tie down all patio furniture to our metal pergola which was still on the move. It is calm as of this writing. All snow plow dogs are delighted, my little Brussels/Carrin Terrier has gone out twice to play with a winter coat on and couldn't be happier. We will see what is still to come. Bella & Penny are happy girls, life is an adventure❤
People don’t realize how heavy “Sierra cement” snow is… and when you are already out to snow clear 3x a day without having a garage and also helping the neighbors out- it is more than okay to use a small one stage snow blower on your back deck. So excited that Tahoe is finally getting some snow- even in the form of a 3 day blizzard… so much better than rain on top of snow. Keep up the great work!
Hopefully Newsom graciously allows you to use a woodburner over there. I'm on the Nevada side of Lake Tahoe and the house is nice and warm. The snow blower is doing overtime today. Yeeehaaaa! But last year was much worse.
Oh boy, I can relate. Living in a winter wonderland is amazing! Cleaning up after a multi-day blizzard? Not so much. Unencumbered friends assume we’ve been out enjoying some of the winter sports that they have. Silly, silly friends... Back here on Planet Property Ownership, a typical storm day starts with barely-awake moi putting on boots and shoveling the dog “luge” run (in my nightgown) so our two mini dachshunds can take one look outside and decide to do their business indoors on a pad. I stumble into the kitchen to get coffee, before retreating under the blankets (with the dogs) for 20 minutes, while I look at the forecast news. I then dress in multiple layers, shovel for hours, coming inside to collapse, stuff whatever is available to eat into my pie hole, throw clothes in the dryer (after again clearing the dog run), hide under the blankets while having tea, then resume shoveling for as long as I can stand it before needing a side order of ibuprofen and a beer. No housework gets done, except maybe washing whatever dishes were used that day. Would I trade this life for some place without snow? Not in a million years.
@@tahoemountainlifeMt. Danaher in Camino off 50 has a pws on top of their 100’ fire lookout tower (officially wind should be measured 33’ above ground but there are a lot of tall pines nearby) and they picked up a 71mph gust! My part of the upper foothills just below 4000’ did pretty good too, I picked up a couple around 55mph though the power briefly went down after one of them and the winds intensified so maybe I missed measuring something stronger lol. Few inches at this elevation so far, expecting 12-18” at least. You all stay warm and enjoy the fluffy top layer with these lower snow levels ;)
Hope your power stays on during the weekend and have sufficient fuel for the blower! The skiing will be great once the roads are plowed and safe! Last time at Tahoe was the late spring of 1980 :) No snow around here on the western end of Lake Ontario. Been a super mild winter. Stay safe & thanks for sharing!

I live in Maple Grove, MN and we have missed winter this year. It's 60F right now and supposed to hit 70F on Sunday. Last year we had huge amounts of snow and I bought an Ariens 28 inch with auto turn. It's a beast and gives my Toro single stage a break from trying to move the plow truck berm in the driveway. This year I've only used it once since we only got 6 inches of snow. That's right 6 inches. We have had a brown winter. No snow and new high temp records. Not sure what I think of that. Love the deck on your house. Great place to relax.
I love Lake Tahoe but haven’t been there in years. We did encounter a blizzard going to our daughter’s wedding in NV decades ago. We are getting some snow and wind today.❄️
43 years ago I moved back to Philadelphia from Vermont because of snows like this!! I made my decision after it went to 30 below F real temperature one night. Beautiful to look at though.
The difference between even 3,000’ flat and 3300’ can be huge it’s wild sometimes what 150-200’ gain/loss can mean for snow! Depends on where in CA but the 80 and 50 corridors on the west slope, 10-15” depths usually happen 1-3 times per winter around 3000’ in my 30+ years of living in the upper foothills. Now, up near 3300-3500’ those numbers are closer to 16-24” Maybe more tonight into tomorrow, enjoy!
Thanks for the blizzard update! Tahoe is beautiful year round. I remember the fun snow days but at my age I enjoy the Tahoe summers more than the winters. I love watching your skill level and energy on the slopes.
Bro, congrats on owning a home in tahoe after 10 years of travel. With the snow blower you want to take slices of the snow versus using it like a lawn mower. Once you have a indentation in the snow then just put a third of the auger in the fresh snow and slice it off. The blower will not bog down and you will not need to push as hard. Hope this makes sense.
I would like to thank the PGE workers who have worked as fast as they can to restore our power. We've had 3 outages this Winter with the longest being just 3 hours out. We've had 3 storms with 40 mph winds. I've gotten to watch for the forecasts to keep my freezer almost empty so I would not lose much if we had a long outage.
Bears are going to awfully confused , spring is on its way , and 12 ft of snow expected in the Sierras !? Wow , this will go down in history as the worst snowfall . Stay safe everyone , prayers are with you all . ❤
You can only imagine what the Donner Party went through. When I lived in South Lake Tahoe and went through a blizzard like you are going through, our electricity went out for 18 hours. No fun!
I was there on Thursday as the storm started. I recoded some video. What stands out is the howling of the wind through the trees. You should include some video of that if you have good covered mics.

Because they have no where else to store it. Don't judge! Geez. The snow is heavy. Too heavy to lift with a shovel. He might have a bad back. Again, don't judge. Please.
I'm jealous. I love the snow. I grew up in Kansas and Colorado and Illinois. We always had snow on the ground all of winter. I lived in Texas for awhile. But now back in Illinois. Especially Emerald cove...I forget. Is that what it's called? Emerald Bay? She even took me over to Truckee and Donner Park. Loved it all. What part of Tahoe do you live in?
