That looks like an awesome machine as well. I love the Split Fire design and it is throughout the entire line they have. Do you have an idea of how many cord you have ran through it yet? Personal or business or mixed?
@oakiewoodsman I have 3 cord run through it so far. Like you, I'm out of wood right now to split. Mostly it's personal use. I burned half the amount of wood I usually do with the warm winter. I am liking the way the wedge does a clean break away with the wood at the end of the push. There is nearly zero physical effort in splitting the wood and very few do overs. The lift is excellent to help do the larger diameters. I like where the jack splits in both directions. The 3 point hitch one is very inexpensive and the large logs can be rolled onto it if the beam is lowered to the ground. It should be equipped and available for tractors that have a setup to run the 2 hydraulic cylinders when a lift would be used. After doing a bunch of splitting in the past, and reviewing several brands, this appears the very best one for a one man operation, regardless of diameter of the log.
hmmmmm.... you make a very good point on the 3 point being able to be lowered with the Split Fire unit. I really appreciate you watching taking the time to share this sort of feedback for everyone who reads the comments.
That's very sweet! Congratulations on your new toy! I just got a used splitter it's a Harbor Freight but it's going to be better than hand splitting for sure! Thanks for watching and sharing. I will tell you this, I love the Split-Fire machine but this part of their model numbers is a bit confusing. The 3465 with the option Honda GX270 (High Flow Kit) makes it the 3490. Thanks for asking the question and hope that it helps!
It is a wonderful machine. You can get a lot of wood processed very quickly with just yourself but if you can have 1-2 more guys, you are really quite set!

How excellent! The tonnage seems to be quite much less of an issue when the machine is built with quality components. So far, my machine had easily handled everything I have thrown at it. I haven't even been running it full throttle yet! The unit u have looks also to be excellent as I have seen videos about them. Congratulations on your splitter as well! How long have you had it?
Wolfe Ridge does not make a splitter like this. Totally different design and they are great machines but operated differently. You cannot apply just one design feature and compare it. This machine would be a nightmare with locking levers. With a push through machine, it makes lots of sense. Thanks for watching
There will certainly be more usage coming with this machine. I really like the design and it allows for I think the most flexible platform I have seen. Ready to go with a 4 way in seconds and can easily be switched to a 2 way quickly when it makes sense too. Love that wood was not falling off all over the place as well. Thank you again!
Hey Oakie, nice choice in wood splitter - very good quality. I rented one to test drive it but it didn't have the log lift option so I didn't find it any more efficient than a single acting splitter for a 1 man operation. But I can see that having wood stacked on the log lift table would slightly increase its efficiency. Good on you for stepping up to a hydraulic splitter - they are def game changers 👍👍
Thanks for watching @902hand7! I have seen them operated with the lack of the log table and wings and with that you simply end up with pieces falling down all over the place. I think it is safer to operate with more working room and far more efficient. Thank you for the feedback friend
I don't own one, but I really like the concept of a two-way splitter. You've done your research, because the Split-Fire is surely one of the best. I have looked at their options, & I would have upgraded to the Honda engine, too. My 20 year old log splitter has a smaller Honda Engine, & I have had zero issues with it. I seldom run mine more than 3/4 throttle (less noise). I also don't own large equipment, but I wouldn't cut & burn firewood without owning my log splitter. You're gonna love it! Even those Sycamore trees are in trouble now!
DH, I believe you were the first person to mention this brand and brought awareness to me. For that, I am extremely grateful! Yes, the Honda engine on this caliber of machine is an absolute must and matches well with the rest of the machine quality and capability. I just wanna run it some more sir! Up in your neck of the woods, have you seen on in person before? Used one?
@@oakiewoodsman I've never seen a Split-Fire in person, but I saw someone using a two-way log splitter once on TH-cam. My immediate reaction was - "that's smart"! Knowing me, I immediately started researching two-way log splitters. I soon discovered Split-Fire, & I was instantly impressed with what I saw. The lift, two-way splitting, & build quality seem 2nd to none. I have no doubt that I mentioned one to you, & now that you bring it up I remember doing so! How funny! If you are going to cut, sell, & burn firewood, you will never regret owning a quality log splitter. A machine like that one will last you a lifetime.
@@driftlesshunter9200 I do believe so. So many stories of families sharing them and splitting wood for numerous households with them. I want to get to splitting!
It really depends on what you are looking for. I find that the machine is not the stongest in terms of breaking big nasty rounds but certainly can handle them. I did a video comparing to an Ultra and the strengths of this machine really shined when doing "typical" firewood work.
I just replaced wear pads on a 3465 . If you see the top of the tube getting flared up, you need to pull out the cylinder and replace the pads. While the cylinder is out per Split-Fire, you need to heat the areas that are flared and flatten them out with a hammer. I used a rosebud tip on an oxy acetylene toarch, which is really hot, and it worked well. I welded a 5' 1/2" peice of 2"square tube to a pipe and had a helper to use it as a guage so I didn't over flatten the area that I heated. Wasn't a job I was looking forward to, but it went better than expected. The worst part was getting the cylinder out because the pads were so deformed. A 10 ton porta power is highly recommended for that task. I did try just hammering without heat, and it didn't work. Heat made the process work.
Probably 2008 ish. In terms of use I would say harsh. I needed a larger unit but made the best of what I had at the time. In terms of cords...had to be between 200 and maybe 400. I loaned it out quite a bit so I'm not really sure how much went through it. All things considered I would say a nice unit. I sold that one to a friend and bought a 4490 extra tall. Wish I had waited a year for the high flow version. I'm probably going to purchase a 4206 which will mount on a excavator. I have 2- Eastonmades which also work well but for a compact easy to move splitter they make it great product. If I'm doing a road trip the Eastonmades are too big/ heavy to get in my trailer.
To many splitters, my plan is to sell the 12-22, but I'm using it at the moment, and I like it for 24" wood. I'll never get one for what I paid for that one, so it's a tough decision. It's a great splitter for firewood poles in a commercial setting. The Wolf Ridge SV17 has my attention. Might be a sell 2 buy 1 deal. I'll always have a Split-Fire because I like the design. The machine you have is a great machine for most wood. I'm processing tree service wood, which is normally big and ugly. We use an inverted splitter to break down the big stuff just to get it on the Axis for splitting down to size and then on the conveyor, which will cross your mind in time. If you can see your way to the Paul Bunyan show I highly recommend the trip. I went in 2023, really enjoyed it. I haven't been to Boonville yet. Maybe next year. You have been bitten by the firewood bug, enjoy the ride.
Hi Joe, Congratulations on getting a super cool new splitter. I would like to see you try splitting some of that crazy tough sycamore with it. I've been cutting my sycamore really thin in order to be able to hand split it.
Thank you for watching! I am taking a break right this moment from using it! As I am splitting, I am not held back by waiting on the machine. By myself, I am the weak link. All my wood stays right in front of me and if I position quickly and throw wood right away the slide can essentially never stop moving. I just simply am not that fast. I believe this machine could easily keep 3 people working hard and fast and can produce a tone of wood. Thank you again for watching and if you are interested interested, keep watching cause much more is to come. I am about to hit 4 hrs on it right now. The first fuel tanks split a time of wood and lasted nearly 3 hrs and 15 minutes. I cannot believe how much can be split in that time! If I wasn’t filming, it would be even more!
It truly is and now that I have more time on it than I did in this video, I was noticing my inefficiencies. Incredible machine for sure. So happy to have a splitter of this caliber!
This is awesome. I am so happy for you. That machine will serve you and your family well for many years. Can’t beat a Honda engine. I recently purchased a splitter from a buddy at work. It was a box store splitter but it has a Honda engine not the cheap no name engines they are putting on them now. I don’t mind splitting with a maul and I enjoy it, however, having a splitter sure makes splitting those knotty pieces so much easier! 😂 Again, congrats on the purchase. You have an amazing new “toy”!
I will still swing an axe every so often however, I want to take care of my body as much as possible. That means a good mix of splitter and hand work. When I am into a bit of straight grained read oak, I assure I want to break them out! Thank you so much for watching and I appreciate all your support friend!
What an incredible piece of equipment! Lots of R&D from the looks of it. While I can't really speak on the splitter itself, I'm a believer in a couple early oil changes in non filtered, splash lubed engines. Usually ill do a 15-30 minute change and a 1 hour change on a brand new engine. Some call it a waste of time and oil, I call it cheap insurance🤓 Seems capable of very high production for it's size👍🏻
That is a very good tip AP! With an engine like this, wouldn't hurt getting that fresh a couple of times! I know the first time I changed the oils on my Briggs Sawmill engine, you could see very fine metalic shimmer in the oil from the break in process. After that, it was clean as clean could be! Thank you for watching and I appreciate you Sharing. I am excited to run this splitter more
👍👍👍 that’s pretty slick. Very nice!!!! Something that would be very handy around the property is a used garden or lawn tractor- they are cheap. Get a receiver mounted to it and you will be surprised how handy it is. Tow your trailer around, splitter and those little carts. Very handy if you don’t have a loader.
You know something!? I recently got a little Red lawn tractor without a deck and it runs fine. That will be perfect for this task! My father also gave me that little red trailer that needs some tires. Hmmmmm...... I had an all black theme going on..... maybe I will start going Red on some Stuff! Yanmar Mini maybe? hahaha. Some day buddy. But seriously, I am glad you mentioned that. That would be super helpful dragging that splitter around my property.
The other thing I would pass along to anyone looking. I really don't use my 4 way wedge any more. I don't like all the slash it makes. It's so rare that I'm in that perfect size for a 4 way I don't even take it with me anymore. It is fast in the right condition but the single makes the cleanest wood possible. On the 4490 you can get 3 or 4 peices at once anyway. Save some money on the wedge and put it into a taller version or a high flow version.
Very good! Great tip for anyone looking at ones of these machines. If you are working by yourself, the 4 way will drown you quickly and you cannot move material off the table fast enough. I like the slash for kindling.
I am in the United States and yes, the splitter is shipped over the border from Canada to our beautiful country. I would recommend checking split fires website for their full lineup and current pricing. My machine is fairly optioned out and you can get a heck of a machine at a great price with them. Thanks for watching!
Nice splitter! I was wondering about the "high flow kit", now that you have it was it worth the extra money to you? I really want the 8 inch lift to help with my back and I am considering the "high flow kit". Thanks for your reply and videos.
That is very difficult to answer because I have not run one without it. When I consulted with Split Fire, I believe my understanding is that the high flow simply moves the knife faster but not with more force. I certainly would love for someone to chime in on this. IMO if you are splitting by yourself, speed is not an issue of the knife. It produces so many splits the table is tough for a one man operation to keep clear and keep moving the knife. The design is so efficient, the speed of the knife is less of a factor on this type of machine from my perception. I just hit 5.5 hours on it today and it is incredible how much it has split! I am building piles VERY quickly and love running this machine. I also really like the 4 way. You have to ask yourself, what do you typically do and in what wood. If you reach out to them and mention the machine I have, they know exactly the specs of what I ordered. I am 5’8” and love the working height! If you have more questions, just let me know! More content coming for sure!
@@oakiewoodsman Thanks for your reply. I'm 6'2" so I am considering the 8" lift. At this point I am not sure about the "high flow kit" as I work alone and as you mention it splits pretty fast. I believe you are correct about the "force". My understanding was that the 3455 was rated at 20 ton and the 3465 with the Honda engine was rated around 22 tone but the high speed kit didn't affect the tonnage ratings so I believe you are correct as it increased the knife speed. I enjoy your videos, keep'em coming :)
@@oakiewoodsman It appears that the 3490 is fairly manageable to move by hand even on hilly ground and that is a good thing. I am pretty much decided on the 3490 and I enjoy all the videos online. While I don't believe I would need the 4410 I do like the 12 inch knife. God bless & good health.
@glengarritysr9997 excellent! I am very happy with mine. If you speak with Split Fire please let them know you watched my video and let them know if I was helpful! Enjoy your new purchase and be safe out there! I would love for you to come back and let me know how you are liking your machine after you receive it.
Wow! They are closer to half that here. I have heard many coats are much more expensive over there. What would a STIHL 500i cost? Here they are about $1600-1700.
Ouch, here in Norway, you need two hands to be able to activate the knife. Guess there are more guys missing a finger over there :-) He is a darn sight quicker than me too.
Lets hope they do not bring those regulations over here. I find that life has hazards and wearing the proverbial "tether" at all times is not exactly the way I want to live. What is interesting is this. Recently in Tulsa OK, they built a beautiful multi million dollar park. All the designers and play equipment was imported from Germany if I recall correctly. In some of the earliest articles it talked about how how they were after a "tactile" experience where kids were free to be kids and there was some risk essentially. Well, that was some of the most dangerous play equipment I have ever see and it came from Europe. Interesting perspectives. Thank you for watching
I do not know the time specifically. You kinda would just measure one way because you are ready to split the other way as soon as you complete the split
I don't own one, but you may be interested in an adjustable trailer dolly. Home Depot, Tractor Supply, Harbor Freight, and places like Amazon sell them. It's a small investment that may save your back. I tug my log splitter short distances around the yard, but there are times when I wish I had a trailer dolly myself. I use my ATV to tug my log splitter around most of the time, however.
Now that the machine has more hours on it, I run it closer to full throttle quite often. I was just kinda going easy since it was brand new. Thanks for watching and commenting! Do you have one of the Split-Fire machines?

Like I've said in my opinion nothing like running a Split Fire. They will blow away pretty much all home owner grade splitters. Take care.
It really depends on what you are looking for. I find that the machine is not the stongest in terms of breaking big nasty rounds but certainly can handle them. I did a video comparing to an Ultra and the strengths of this machine really shined when doing "typical" firewood work.
Very nice. Congratulations!!
Thank you James! I hope you are well friend
Love that laughter
hahahaha.... always considering editing it out there buddy! Have a good one and be well!
Very good information for us. Can you please share a bit more. What year is your machine, approximate hours and/or production numbers in cords etc?
Gosh dang! Right on! Great information for sure. You have quite a setup I can now see!
@markw2266 for sure! It all started with some tree work and burning a bit of wood for heat through the winter.
Hi Joe, Congratulations on getting a super cool new splitter. I would like to see you try splitting some of that crazy tough sycamore with it. I've been cutting my sycamore really thin in order to be able to hand split it.
I sure will be doing that in the future and have some plans for sure. Thank you much and I appreciate you watching and commenting once again!
You’re like a kid in the candy store 😊 congrats on the splitter. 💪
😅 you bet buddy! I am beyond excited to run this nice of a machine.
Hey man that's a great spliter and great video
I sure appreciate that sir. We are blessed to be working with Split Fire!
great video - really informative about that machine.
Looks like you got a good one
Sure did friend! Thanks for watching for sure. This machine is going to see LOTS of usage!
Looks fairly efficient
Again, congrats on the purchase.
Some call it a waste of time and oil, I call it cheap insurance🤓
Seems capable of very high production for it's size👍🏻
Nice! I've got the Honda engine on Super Split, great engine.
Good components on great machines make for a winning combo! Stay safe and keep warm next winter!
That a sweet set up. Add it to the list. Lol
Thank you for stopping by and watching. This will be an incredible machine for sure. Have a good one and stay safe!
Looks like an awesome splitter! Is that machine available in the US, and if it is, how much it in USD?
I sure will and I thank you for being here!
Would a trailer dolly work to move it around the yard?
I think one with big tires would likely work very well. Thanks for watching!
How much did it cost you? Here in Australia the same model costs 15k
Wow! They are closer to half that here. I have heard many coats are much more expensive over there. What would a STIHL 500i cost? Here they are about $1600-1700.
How much is this unit the way you have it stet up. Georgia
I would visit the Split Fire website. Thanks for watching!
Nice
Thank you!
What is the cycle time for this splitter out and back
I do not know the time specifically.
Good call. Crazy Feller suggested using a lawn tractor. I have one around without a deck on it too! hahaha
I don’t see a smoke stack on that house ? Are you burning wood or gas ?
Not sure if it shows up in this video. On the far end near the holler. Thanks for watching!
I think I'd run the engine full tilt which gives the splitter more power
Now that the machine has more hours on it, I run it closer to full throttle quite often. I was just kinda going easy since it was brand new. Thanks for watching and commenting! Do you have one of the Split-Fire machines?
$2000-$3,200
Are you making and offer or asking a question?
Retails for $5,000.
It is always best for everyone to check the website. They have machines for less than that and mine is more than that.
Can you please stop talking? I cannot hear the wood cracking clearly.
Point taken! I was just enjoying the process and had to share. Thanks for watching!
Too slow...
Compared to what? It is faster than one man can handle themselves.
