    • @mckinneytexaszeds5922
      @mckinneytexaszeds5922 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well I will first state that it starts with mentality. I have been doing this for 11 successful years and with no help, no guidance, no loans... I had to gain the knowledge of how, why, when, and where method.
      1. What - What am I providing?
      2. Why - Why am I providing my consulting?
      3. Who - Who am I providing for?
      4. When - When do I provide my service(Yes WHEN...EVERYDAY INCLUDING SUNDAYS)
      5. How - How do I reach out to my clients and how do I insert the initial information to their half locked mind because they already believe we are "salesman". You have to let them know up-front yet professional that we are not sales people. i can go on about this but i'll cut short.
      6. Setting your self up for closing - It's not as simple as "Hey Mr. Troy I am Anthony and I have this. I can assist you by providing my proven solution.... do you want it?" This is something i discuss with startups as well.
      My best proven solution to help any business owner, CEO and so forth become better at what they do is to delegate what you are providing and stop trying to slam jam all of your expertise into one big package. It overwhelms the client and they wont tell you that. Don't speak in Jargon, skip the history and analytics. Clients contact you for one reason and that's to help them grow, statistics does not apply because it's NOW not past time. If you email me we can talk more and will be more than happy to share much more.

    I agree with a lot of this BUT I have to say "Putting yourself out there" makes sense. What it means is to get up and start putting your face in front of CEO's, don't back down and stand your ground. All of my clients were landed by getting past the gatekeeper and if not... I show up by researching the owner/CEO and I go straight to them. I would call a courtesy call and offer a 1 day free service and build a relationship and have small yet effective 3 month jumpstart programs and so on. "Putting yourself out there" is really the base of getting started. Yes that media SEO mess is a joke, it does not work unless you want to attract small $10 clients. My recent client landed us $34k deal for a 3 month contractual agreement, this was pre-referral too but it converted.

    I want to start a Software Consulting firm. The last few companies I've worked at used Excel heavily, and sometimes, rightfully so. As in, tasks that they were preforming, preparing reports, lists, etc. were best performed in Excel. The way they utilize the application is painful to watch and of course, time consuming. Within my roles, I often worked on the companies' CRMs and realizing where to harness Excel functions and create custom formulas or macros and where to actually code an extension into the CRM was an area where I feel I added value. I want to initiate my pitch by marketing free Excel training to mid level admin staff. I have done this before and am able to get an Excel Dummy have fun with functions in a few lessons. However, when I get to the "where" question, I'm stuck thinking is there an event for Excel users? People with ideas for the CRM? People that have a SaaS system that fulfills 94% of their needs and want tools that fill the gap? Where would I find business owners that have a staff with bad Excel users (which by my experience is a very, very vast population)

    • @CovetedConsultant
      @CovetedConsultant  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      These are all really good questions. There isn't a single sentence response here. If you are just starting out in your business, it is easiest to reach out to people in your local market. Ask about how they use Excel, offer to make Excel faster/easier for them to use. The initial conversations will help drive your next steps.

    Hi Alzay, thank you so very much for your pragmatic, genuine and valuable insight into finding clients. You present your thoughts and advice in such a compelling and relatable manner, it's seriously so helpful.
    The only thing I wanted to ask abour your methodology is how is it possible to develop and package a solution before you've even identified a problem? Would a consultant not need to know what the problem is first before it be can solved ? I think knowing what the problem is or identifying an important/widespread business problem is half the battle. What do you think?

      Good question Suzannah! This can be a "chicken or the egg" kind of conversation. In the end, you will need to match your solution to the clients problem...there is no way around that. However, for most people, it is easier to begin with a solution (What skill/service am I most comfortable offering?) and then matching that with a problem (Who already values this skill/service?) If it is easier for you to think through potential client problems first...have at it!
