    This house has been abandoned for about 4 years. It sits on over 100 acres of land. Being so secluded I knew this place wouldn’t be vandalized or trashed. I had a good feeling about it. But unfortunately I was saddened by what I seen. I’m a big animal lover and having 2 dogs myself I was shocked to see the living conditions.

      Agreed… my cousin adopted a stud dog from a busted puppy mill & that dog would literally FREEZE in place , if anyone got even a little near . It stood so still it looked stuffed. It was just HEARTBREAKING. That poor dog loosened up just a little after about 8 months.. but never learned to completely relax. Those puppy mills are disgusting

      I'd bet this was an animal hoarder, someone with mental problems that just kept taking in animals until they were way, way beyond the ability to care for them, and overwhelmed. Not that our biggest sympathy shouldn't be for the animals, because it should. But this person may have been well intentioned and things just spiraled out of control for them. Plus it looks like they were quite old.

    That house is not that old either.
    That’s crazy.
    I was a cop with the ASPCA in NYC and this was very common with hoarders. Their hearts were bigger than their heads and these poor souls would collect these animals thinking they were saving them, yet as you can see, it just made things way worse.
    It wasn’t uncommon for us to find the owners deceased inside these homes weeks or months after they died but neighbors would just think the smell was normal.

    My wife works in the Veterinary field as a lead Vet Tech for a very large practice. She has tons of sad stories of rescued puppies and kittens that come to her hospital. Very few survive and what short of a life they had was pure misery. Another troubling group of people are back yard breeders. The majority do not take care of their animals and do not go through the right steps medically to provide for their animals. They are only in it to make a buck. Their "pure bread" animals are mostly inbred and will never be right. The popular puppy/dog on our area are French Bull dogs. One breeder has a female that has only ever been pregnant in her short live. Three litters so far. Her last litter had 13 puppies. Frenchies cannot give birth naturally. So every time she has a litter she has to have a C-section. She has had three in three years. Her litters are big but a quarter of them will be still born. The breeder inbreeds the dogs to get special colors like white and spotted. They then sell those puppies anywhere from $2,000 to $4,000. So one litter can earn 20-40K. The female mother will only live for 4-5 years until she is used up and all the puppies they sell will have major, expensive health issues. No one regulates these people. It''s truly heart breaking.

      I see the definition of a backyard breeder is much different than when I was young. There were farm families that had one dog that they would breed for a bit of extra money, but I never imagined the kind of money people could make off it now. I am not sure why people would breed an animal that can not give birth naturally.

    You can tell that the house was a beauty at one point, but once the hoarding set in this was the result. The cobwebs aren’t spiders, it’s an accumulation of dirt. In situations like this, the dirt just starts to…stick. I am sure whoever lived their was elderly (bathroom seat on the main floor) and either they passed or were removed from the house. The family most likely decided to leave the house rot rather than clean it up. Can’t say I blame them. But man, you handled that entire experience with class. Kudos.

    I feel at one time this place was filled with love. For animals and for family. At some point the ones that cared and kept everything together just weren't there anymore. It breaks my heart that ANYONE'S legacy or name is stained like this. Did the remaining family just not care, or was there no one left to care😔

  • @gremlinjerky8462
    @gremlinjerky8462 ปีที่แล้ว +36

    My theory is that this was a lifelong family business at one point, likely ran by a childless couple. In old age the man passed leaving wife on her own to care for a massive property, structures and likely hundreds of animals. The kennels were likely taken out of commission as mobility became an issue, dogs were moved into the house into crates, however that also proved to be unmanageable. The house was too big to keep in livable shape and the animals were too much to care for daily for someone who was completely alone, probably sick and depressed and very old. I would love to learn about the family that lived there because I don’t see abuse I see someone who spent their whole life caring for the only beings they had to turn to in their final years on this planet - their dogs and birds. What amazes me also is the ample virtue signalling by the commenters but not a single concern for the elderly who dwelled in those same walls.

      @@-Its420Somewhere it makes me angry too, but hoarding is a mental illness that is triggered by loss of some kind. Some people don’t know how to deal with grief so they push it off and don’t allow themselves to work through it. It manifests itself in ways like hoarding. They build up “barriers” to protect themselves. The animals are a whole other illness altogether.

    Underneath the mess you can tell the house was once cared for and loved, somebody went through a lot of work to decorate it and hang all those pictures. It was probably a beautiful place for a long time..... sometimes it's a story of the kids grow up and move out an the spouse dies and there's only one person left behind to deal with the place. This person is becoming elderly and they can't take care of a property like that and everything they had going on, probably where the hoarding started and then just turned into a complete mental illness.

      It can be amazing how quickly abandonment can destroy a property. Leave a few windows open and boom it will happen in a flash. That's not all that happened here, but still.
      My grandma was meticulous in cleaning her house when she was healthy, but when alzheimer's set in, it was a year before it was almost unhealthy. Add animals to the mix and the decay accelerates tenfold.

      I agree with you, to some people it is automatically a hoarder house and possible puppy mill, but I suspect that they began things as a rescue due to all the different types of animal cages BUT OBVIOUSLY something went horribly wrong along the way, perhaps the loss of a spouse and their grief became so unbearable that they surrounded themselves with animals, the reason I’m thinking this is because of the fact that he found a vet bill for some puppies from 2018 and as someone who bought a puppy who’s 12 pound shi zue momma was “ accidentally “ mounted by a 80 pound king shepherd who was SUPPOSEDLY vet checked, I quickly learned that the owner had bred her little female by locking her in the basement with several different males, the vet informed me that this WAS NOT the first time this had happened and the momma had in-fact had a split litter, she had 5 puppies, 3 were part king shepherd and 2 are yorkie mix which is what I have and they had NEVER seen a vet.
      DO NOT get me wrong, someone should have intervened BEFORE it got to that point, HOWEVER I don’t think we should jump to conclusions WITHOUT knowing the entire story

    • @IllustriousCrocoduck
      @IllustriousCrocoduck 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@faithdrake3688 exactly. This is not even on the same level as some places I've seen. I saw some urbexers go through a hoise once where they were climbing for every step over garbage and filth, and the encountered multiple dead pets. Some of these unfortunately probably died after the house was abandoned, but they found at least two cats kept in shoboxes under a bed.
      It is pointless for us to jump to conclusions about these cases without actually knowing the facts. It doesn't help any person or any pet. There are a lot of mental illnesses that can have tragic outcomes.

    Maybe like someone wrote, someone passed away and the person left behind lost control.
    I don´t know much about puppy mills but I´m pretty sure they don´t take their litters to the vet?
    Maybe the breeder (serious one) passed away leaving their partner alone. And he/she just couldn´t cope.

I can see the crushing loneliness this person had went through to have the urge to keep all this "companions".
    My guess is a couple lived there and probably the man run a puppy mill. He passes away and the woman is left with the dogs, the feeling abandonment and the loneliness that made her keep them and get more so she may never be alone or abandoned again. Add a hoarding tendency and this is the result.

My Maltese 8 lbs n 11 years old n my apple head chihuahua 6 years n he is tiny with a pit bull complex. I adore my babies n don’t leave them with anyone. I agree with you. Seems like a case of loneliness, depression, after the death of the spouse. Felt closed to the husband n all those animals, were considered her companions, probably cared but depression , loneliness and probably some type of Emotionally disconnected n probably gave up. Found dead / maybe heart attack or just gave up on life. Very sad.

    If you find anything out, please pin an update! I know you don't want to share the location, or I'd try and research it myself. By the architecture of the home, it didn't look like it was very old, yet the decay was unreal. Like how could it get that bad if they only left in the last five years? My guess is this was an older person/people and they started out as breeders/rescuers, and it escalated to hoarding. Perhaps someone that worked in animal rescue took in animals and it got out of control and they couldn't handle it. Also, I think they were living in those conditions for a long time even with the house falling apart. You'd be surprised what hoarders will subject themselves to. I do feel someone intervened and took all the animals as I did not notice any animal bones in the cages, so hopefully there were none in there while you were exploring. I hope whoever lived there ended up getting help and getting out of the situation. Very, very sad all around. Looks to me to have have been abandoned a lot longer than 2018 but that Vet Statement does bear the date stamp so.... I'm guessing a dog, exotic birds & possibly snake breeder who at one time had his/her act together but through age & infirmary (noticed the handicapped rails in one of the bathrooms) was unable to keep it up & attend to things properly. No kids or family, remote location, no Will, died intestate & very possibly on-site, not discovered for some time, animals removed.... I can't help but feel that many animals have suffered at the hands of the owners of this building and can only hope the authorities got there in time to save the poor souls.
    Thank you for documenting this place, and maybe it will encourage not just people to be kinder to animals but to report when they see such cruelty. Although I suspect this place was remote for a reason
    Great respect to you for documenting.

      @@AbandonedUrbexCanadaI hate to creep u out but that soggy floor may have not been all animal feces. I have seen the tv show hoarders and some go where ever the urge hits them. Yep.
      I saw a large portable toilet in the bathroom. It looked oversized; the kind you see on that obese 600 lb. show.

    I watch the series “ Hoarders” and I’ve seen cases like this. They have so many animals to take care of and their mental illnesses make them think they are helping these animals, but they are actually neglecting them. They live in hoard and filth but don’t see it. It’s sad all around.

    10:53 into the video, you confirmed my thoughts. This house hasn't been abandoned that long. I used to work Public Safety in the States, we would see houses like this. We would report it and try to get the mentally ill people some help... and definitely rehome animals if possible. It's really sad... But people will live in these conditions, the biggest reason we would be there is because their lungs couldn't handle it. It's a hoarder sickness... Hoarding junk and animals all at the same time.

    Hoarding can happen to anyone, I hope it doesn''t happen to anyone watching.
    My father became a hoarder but we were able to nip in the bud.
    He had Alzheimer's and was keeping hair from the vac, recycling, broken stuff.
    Mom took over as power of attorney and I was directed to discard stuff.
    He never knew the difference even though we were all in the same house.
    You have to be so detached from reality or incredibly cold to treat animals this way.

    This was overwhelming Brent. My mind was going to all kinds of bad places. 2018? That makes it worse. It hasn’t been abandoned for that long, even though it looks it. How could somebody get away with living like this let alone for those poor animals, but even for themselves. You’d think some authorities would have intervened. It seems like they started out with this beautiful home( it was hard to see, but it was a beautiful home under all that filth) Pictures of family, younger days, then older days. That one bathroom had a standing alone toilet for seniors. Maybe it started out right, but became horrific. I can’t imagine letting my mom and/or dad living inside that filth, not being able to care for themselves but all the animals too. This is really unbelievable Brent. @@AbandonedUrbexCanada I'm wondering if the people living there died suddenly and the animals had to do whatever to survive until someone was made aware of the situation. I have a wonderful girl that came from such a situation. A Himalayan breeder that took very good care of her cats had a fatal heart attack in her sleep. It was estimated that the cats/kittens were left for 10 months to fend for themselves. The ones that were in cages of course didn't survive, the others that were kept separated by walls got out and were interbreeding. The majority of them were dead already when found or had to be put to sleep. My girl was one of the lucky few. The house didn't look as bad as this one but it was a huge litterbox and they had chewed through anything they could.
      It looks like older people lived here. They were probably overwhelmed with clutter before whatever happened, happened. Such a shame, it looked like it was a beautiful house at one point.

Had to be hard to get animals out of home in that condition.

  • @MelissaKM235
    @MelissaKM235 ปีที่แล้ว +10

    So sad. You can tell by all of the dog food and treat boxes and photos on the wall that at one time those animals were taken care of and loved. So sad to see things appear to have deteriorated very quickly both for the owner, the animals, and the house itself. 😢 I hope the animals were taken to safety and that the owner got the help they needed. Due to the obvious hoarding, hopefully more of those cages were just hoarded after housing animals for years. Hopefully by the end there weren’t nearly as many animals as hoarded cages.

    Hi, Brent- Animal hoarders are the worst kind. I have been closely associated with 2, and the absolute helplessness you feel makes you sick to your stomach. They both were hoarders of things, as well, and curiously, spent a great deal of money on vet care, and good food, just kept their animals in hideous conditions, like this house, and seemed to find nothing wrong with it. I tried really hard, thinking if I got some of the animals out, she wouldn't replace them, let me tell you- they are called hoarders for a reason. This lady kept floors full of animals. and had a dark silent basement stuffed full of cages- it drove me crazy, and I always asked her why she had animals just to stuff them in the basement, at least give them a radio. She was raided by the Humane Society twice, who removed hundreds of animals from her house. I finally had to stop being friends with both of them. It was just too hard.
    This was a hard one, and I hope they got to any animals, because when you got to the small animal room, I just kept thinking there was no way they would have any chance at all, hamsters, gerbils, reptiles- they couldn't make noise, no heat, no food, made me very sad.
    Thanks for the explore- it would have been a nice house, once-SDK

    Such a sad house, it looks like it would have been beautiful when it was new. I have an old uncle that is an alcoholic bachelor. He was married briefly in his younger days. He and his wife split up some time in the 1970s when I was small, and I am not exaggerating when I say that he has not dusted his house since then. He is not a hoarder, he takes out his trash, cleans his dishes, occasionally washes clothes. But his house is literally covered in dirty cobwebs exactly like in this video. They are huge, like haunted house size cobwebs. He is mean as hell and rejects all offers of assistance. I can only imagine that this situation was similar, that the person did not clean in decades. They probably lost their significant other and the hoarding was triggered by the death. You are fortunate you did not find any dead pets in there!

    apparently in the first years of desolation during the warm period, the decaying excrement of animals attracted such a number of insects that it was just expanse for spiders ...

    The juxtaposition of feces-filled cages and the Lab photo on the wall... I lean toward this being a situation where a loss - perhaps of a loved one - tipped things into extreme hoarder territory combined with extreme neglect of, well, everything - that house is in hideous condition to have been abandoned for only 5 years... I'm guessing the trigger event occurred several years earlier, and everything looks so awful because the decay was permitted to progress while the remaining owner still lived there... but who knows. What a deplorable situation for those poor animals.

    Wow so sad !, I wonder if they were animal hoarders ? Or they had a pet store... but there is tons of tanks it's a shame they could be cleaned up and used. And the bird cages !! Great explore as usual !! 👌 ty Brent !

    OMG! This looks like a house of an animalhoarder. Birds and dogs. What a terrible situation. I feel bad, only looking at your video. How must it have been for you, walking through that house! Thanks for this video. It is a real eye-opener for some. That animal hoarding is a serious problem. Thanks for showing the aftermath of hoarding. Because the pain and sadness isnall over this video. Thanks Brent! Please stay safe.
