►Early Hospital History
The earliest documented institutions aiming to provide cures were ancient Egyptian temples. In ancient Greece, temples dedicated to the healer-god Asclepius, known as Asclepieia functioned as centers of medical advice, prognosis, and healing. In early India, Fa Xian, a Chinese Buddhist monk who traveled across India c. CE 400, recorded examples of healing institutions. According to the Mahavamsa, the ancient chronicle of Sinhalese royalty, written in the sixth century CE, King Pandukabhaya of Sri Lanka (r. 437-367 BCE) had lying-in-homes and hospitals (Sivikasotthi-Sala). A hospital and medical training center also existed at Gundeshapur, a major city in the southwest of the Sassanid Persian Empire founded in CE 271 by Shapur I.
The declaration of Christianity as an accepted religion in the Roman Empire drove an expansion of the provision of care. Following the First Council of Nicaea in CE 325 construction of a hospital in every cathedral town was started, including among the earliest hospitals by Saint Sampson in Constantinople and by Basil, bishop of Caesarea in modern-day Turkey. By the twelfth century, Constantinople had two well-organized hospitals, staffed by doctors who were both male and female. Facilities included systematic treatment procedures and specialized wards for various diseases.

People underestimate how useful a good ambience track can be. If you need to pull your mind to a specific setting, it's one of the top things you can do to bring you there

My mom was a nurse my dad a surgeon. At one point when I was young my mom was head nurse at a small private hospital for geriatric care. There was a small apartment in the back where we lived so she could be available 24 /7. (she was a single mom at this point)
Every day I'd come home from school and do my "rounds". I was everyone's honorary granddaughter. So I made short visits to every room
Hospitals still feel like home to this day.
The smell of Dettol (disinfectant) instantly reminds me of "our" little hospital.
This is great for nights when I'm wound up and can't sleep.

my friend and i are writing a story and most of the plot is in a modern psychiatric hospital this isthe only background i can use that doesn't sound like a scary mental asylumn

So I have chronic illnesses and in I'm the hospital a LOT so here are some of my stories from it!
1. I was in for surgery and people were fighting in the room over and we could hear them, it was so loud and violent we needed to call the nurses to separate them.
2. During an admission the only thing I could watch on the hospital TV was the Bee Movie.
3. this isn't really a story but the hospital looks really pretty around the holidays because they like to decorate!
4. I was in for Feeding tube placement and this one guy kept on yelling "I HATE ANIME" down the waiting room hallway.

Lol, me! I actually really like to immerse myself in the story. So if I am writing a chapter that takes place in a hospital, I will listen to hospital ambiance to feel like I am really there. It's a lot of fun in my opinion. :)

As a critical care transport medic I would often find myself in large, "live"-sounding hospital atriums like this while waiting (sometimes up to an hour) with my patient who is on a cardiac monitor. Sometimes I would turn the audible heart rate monitor on to listen for variations or aberrancies. It would sound just like this and it was a low-key, relaxed part of my job. I love my job. I use this sometimes when writing a paper or preparing a presentation or some-such to put me in a relaxed mindset and in that "medical mood." Someone should really take care of that "code green" though. ;-) (In my hospital system a "code green" is someone who is potentially violent. I know in many systems it signals an evacuation, an elopement/abduction, or an internal disaster. I persistently wonder what it means here...) Cheers!
