In regards to rationalizing ammunition calibers, I would strongly urge considering 6.5 Grendel for a standard service rifle and 6.5 Creedmoor for a long range marksman rifle. The difference between these is the size of the case, the amount of powder, the recoil, the weight, and the cost. 6.5 Grendel is ideal for India in my view because of the good performance at long range with low wind drift and high retained energy. It also has a case that is is very close to the case of the 7.62x39 that is already produced locally and in service. The specific dimensions of this round make it particulary easy to adap rifles designs that use 5.56x45 or 7.62x39 for 6.5 Grendel instead. This would be a very useful caliber for mountain warfare where the engagement ranges are often long and the wind is often strong. 6.5 Creedmoor is useful for battle rifles and designated marksman rifles that would typically use 7.62x51. The advantage of the 6.5C round is better retained energy and accuracy at extreme ranges and reduced recoil. The recoil is typically about 30% less which allows for faster follow up shots in semiautomatic mode and better control in burst or full auto modes. That reduced recoil also makes it less tiring to use over a long period of time or in difficult conditions, such as in thin mountain air. The 6.5 Grendel is good for a service rifle beacuse it has superior ballistics to both 5.56x45 and 7.62x39 while keeping recoil, weight, and cost very low. It is also a slightly narrower case than the Creedmoor which can result in increased magazine capacity within the same magazine length. The specifications for the round are now freely available with no royalties. The only requirement is that the dimensions must precisely match the standard in order to use the Grendel name and there is no down side in doing so.

Good question. Why don't it manufacture quality civilian rifles and handguns too? Defense budgets are far more reliant on the civilian economy than on military related exports. Civilian markets drive economic growth and production capacity and government budgets. Military related sales are a tiny part of most economies and have little effect on budgets. What they can do however is help build strategic partnerships that are mutually beneficial by parties with some mutual interests. Shiv you're doing funtastic Job. Keep it up.
much needed interview. Great vision.
Waiting for .338 lapua magnum machine guns and 14.5mm/20mm caliber anti material rifles like RT20 with desired accuracy and recoil
Too costly..it's not Sig..
Enough of imports ..!! Time has come to support our own manufacturers !!! There are many Indian firms showing international quality standards . All the best SSS!
Incidentally the latest chinese QBZ191 is a very good rifle with high accracy, very little revoil, around 20k round service life, double expansion chambers, good balance, All in all an improved version of American AR15.
Hope sss p72 rifles are as good if not better, all the best to sss defence
Most of the indians don't know CCD is Indian company. I think indian private defence manufacturers have to keep the names like tht. Well done sss defence.
Though delayed, it is great start. Kudos to SSS and its leadership team.
You'll never hear one of those IOF babus taking with such knowledge and confidence. The IA had no choice but to go for foreign manufacturers because SSS Defense like enterprises didn't even exist until a few years ago. Hopefully, things will change from here on out.
imagining Arnab doing this interview :D
Congratulations to the depth of your knowledge and Ur maturity in this very new field in our country....I hope your well deserved successes are coming your way
Nice one Mr Krishnan. keep it up. Hope you make a great indian company in days to come. The arms market is already a kurukshetra.
This Guy is very well informed. If he can talk so long, he has something in him. I think we can be sure, he'll soon be a top vendor of our armed forces
This is exactly why we need more private sector involvement.
I have not heard anyone speak on firearms in particular, and on defence procurement, with the knowledge, clarity, detail and passion Vivek Krishnan does in his talk with Shiv Arpor! If what he manufactures is a quarter as accurate, as the directness with which he makes his points, if I were in charge of defence procurement I would be beating a path to his door.
Rarely, have I felt so well...even overly informed as I do today. Wishing Vivek the very best in the defence of India and the a 66 year old's blessings for a great future🙏🇵🇾
Sorry "Aroor"... damn the autocorrect and knock of the unnecessary "the" in the 2nd last line.
Great news....we r proud of u as Indians.
World's best SMG/machine pistols ever made is FN P90 of 5.7×28mm with highest kinetic energy round as far as SMG is concerned. If SSS defence can make SMG like FN P90 with recoil reduction technique from kriss vector and magazine loading technique from FN P90 ,that would be best gun for law enforcement as they don't need much no. of assault rifles. 🍸
Hi, i am mechanical engineer 2019 pass out. I really want to work under such defense related company. Currently i am in IT industry successfully applying my knowledge and talent, but i want to contribute to defence sector plz guide me

Very clear vision. I fully agree with Vivek Sir. Good luck.
Perfectly said Mr Vivek.....import obsession must end
Very commendable .... rough road ahead!!!! but i guess you guys already know it too well!!
My best wishes ... truly.
On a personal note : Vivek thank you for making the time ... where simple people like me have the pleasure of listening to you guys.
Shiv : hats off and kudos to the amazing work you are doing. WOW !
Hi shiv its a very interesting, exciting and blunt interview by vivek. I will suggest you please do interviews with other sectors domestic private sector company ceos in regular interval not like once in a lifetime and ask them to be blunt like him , it will a create a great momentum and will forceMOD and defence forces to come out of import mindset and please tag your such interviews with the mod , ministers and forces
Congrats, you're doing a good job.
Pleasure listening and a lot of Satisfaction .
Very Good discussion!! I hope the Indian defence forces take a serious look at our private sector involved in manufacturing small arms and hope they aren't just set aside!! They need to be given a chance!!
Great conversation. I hope Indian defence agencies collaborate wid SSS Defence soon
SSS Defence should have its own youtube channel and upload amazing test videos for its popularity....
