I had absolutely no idea it was so intricately programmed, no wonder people acuse him of "miming" when they don't understand sequencing, so many sounds are programmed and not even played live in the studio!
They have such an incredible mentality... Much like German Techno, it's simple as fuck, but the rhythm and sounds are flawless, and it works. DRSG is so, SO simple musically, but here you can hear that even the keyboards have all these different octaves and voicings. No one seems to point this out, but Rammstein are all about powerful rhythm, DRSG is so rhythmic (with four instruments playing the same two notes most of the time) that even Rammstein themselves struggle to get the right swing to the song live. 2001 onwards, I think their monitoring setup caused Richard and Paul to play very mechanically, perhaps because they couldn't hear the synth parts. That or Flake was playing the parts in a way that didn't give it the right feel (the bands live audio engineers were dreadful 2001-2017, Flake was never ever loud enough). The mix is critical too, the keyboards have to blend with the guitars, it doesn't sound right if you can hear the guitars too clearly. In 2019, they've fixed it, DRSG sounded live exactly how it should do! Rammstein are masters of perfectly formed, simplicity. I don't know why musicians have such a complex about thinking that faster, more complex, louder is always better... I always wondered as a naive young guitarist why Rammstein drop tuned guitars to C, when "clearly B and A are heavier". 11 years later as a (slightly) wiser musician, going below C only works for certain music, and is an absolute pain to record.. Not only is "heavy" a function of every single instrument working together, but Rammstein were right, I don't find below drop C to be something I ever really use. And now I'll shut up, I just wrote a micro essay on the intricacies of one Rammstein song... lol
@@Corvid How amazing, I also have a guitar but at C standard at the moment. Sometimes I really do get the urge to pull it out and record ideas and riffs but putting them into songs is the most difficult part. It's a bit of a grind, or maybe I'm perfectionistic. Perhaps I should just do it, like the R+ in the video. It's interesting to see how they go through iterations, mistakes and all.
