    Well hello there! Thanks for watching, I've been using the Pixel 6a for a few more days now and can confirm it does get quite toasty at times, but the battery life is still dependable - full in-depth review coming shortly! In the meantime my Pixel 6a camera review just went live, and my Pixel 6a vs 6 vs 6 Pro comparison is hitting shortly after, if you can't get enough Pixel in your life ;)

    As I've discovered with my Pixel 6 Pro, the original Tensor SOC has a bit of a cheeky 5G modem to it. I believe this 5G modem is the root of all battery drain, WiFi signal, dropped calls, and overheating issues. I turned my 5G modem off on my Pixel 6 Pro and my battery life almost doubled, I have no issues connecting to WiFi, have not any any call signal issues and my P6Pro stays nice and cool. It gets "slightly" warm when playing intense games, but nothing "too hot to hold." Turn that 5G modem off and enjoy a much better Pixel 6A experience.

      I did the same with my 6Pro. I have dual sims one for work and esim for personal phone. I'm on my phone a lot for both work and personal use. It easily lasts the day as a result. I don't feel I miss out on 5g even when working in London.

      @@tcirit Unfortunately, that's the only recommendation that I have. Since turning the 5G modem off on my Pixel 6 Pro. I have not had any thermal issues whatsoever. If you're still having thermal issues after turning 5G modem off on your Pixel 6 Pro, I would suggest contacting Google tech support to see if maybe they could give you a new device.

      5g is largely pointless in the UK anyway the benefit isn't really worth the reduced battery life.

    I made the mistake of watching MKBHD's review first because it was the first one I say. If you depended on that video to give information about the phone you would think there is no real reason to buy it other than for its camera.
    I follow these things, so I can tell when the reviewer is biased. It's a shame that a "normal person" might find his video and not know any better.
    I'm a Sony Xperia 5 III user, and I'm very happy with it.
    I just enjoy watching your videos. You, Juan Bagnell, and Josh Vergara are my favorite phone reviewers. You offer great looks at the use cases these devices are suitable for.

    I really hope they chose another manufacturer for the screen than the regular Pixel 6. I had to return that one due to the rainbow banding effect. It was wild, all colors banding at anything barely off center. It was worth the $60 restock fee just to not have to use that thing the next couple years.
    I would have been happier with an LCD panel, especially if it's not going to be at least 90hz.

    I love that the camera doesn't stick out as much as the Pixel 6, I want a phone with a camera not a lens with a phone. And what's wrong with 60hz? It's good enough, consumes less power. I'm coming from a 3a which still works fine apart from the storage and updates running out, so all the "bad" things about the 6a is no worse than that. Minus the lack of a headphone jack, that'll be a boo hiss from me too.

    • @relinquishv
      @relinquishv 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You should use a phone with 120hz screen for at least a year to see what's wrong with that. You come from a 3a and I get your point. Also the charging speed is sloooow. To me is unacceptable to go 2 to 5 years with this phone because right now every others companies give you better hardware. The software is still on the pixel side but others are approaching fast. I can't see myself using a 60hz phone in 2025 for example.

    • @NaturalHalfling
      @NaturalHalfling 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@relinquishv @Relinquish V ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ is the smoother screen really that big a deal? Fair if you think so!, though doesn't feel as important to me. I went from a 60hz to 144hz on my pc and I don't notice a difference, unless I get out the old UFO test website. Assuming it's most liked by those who game a lot? I don't do much of that on mine. No doubt I'd find it buttery smooth but honestly I'd rather the lesser for a longer lasting charge. I like to think it makes the slow charging not so bad if I don't have to do it as much 😂. Suppose I'm lucky I hang on to phones for years, if I were coming from a later pixel then the downsides would be a harder pill to swallow I'm sure hahaha.

    • @relinquishv
      @relinquishv 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@NaturalHalfling that's a good point about hanging with phones for years. I change my phone every 2 years and to me it's important to get the newest tech available. Coming back to the screen, I'm using a phone with 144hz screen and the difference between this and a 60hz is sky to earth. From my perspective, is useless to get a great chipset in a phone and not feeling the fluidity/smoothness of the screen. It feels good browsing stuff and it definitely feels good playing games at 120hz. It's 2022 and even a budget phone has a 120hz screen and those phones with a worse chipset just...feels better at the half of the pixel 6a price. The pixels have the camera which is so great but its not the hardware part, it's the software. I mean, they use a way to old sensor and this should make room for a better screen and a better screen at this price. They overprice the software in my opinion. 5 years of updates won't matter for someone like me and to go until 2027 with a 60hz screen and the low charging speed while there are phones way cheaper with better hardware, it's unacceptable. But hey, there are people like you who don't value this stuff so much and they want a phone which make great photos and just... work for years. In the end, I think pixel 6 is the best value in the pixel 6 lineup.

    I don't understand why manufacturers don't prioritize battery life more tbh. I just want an updated alternative of my old Redmi 3 Pro, probably my favourite phone ever despite the basic tech - small and light with decent specs and brilliant battery life. I got well over 10 hours SOT on that one, 18 hours on my (big and heavy) Mi Max 3. I'll take a downgrade in battery life for a smaller and lighter phone if I must, but anything less than double digits just doesn't cut it.

      We already have the pixel 6 for those features like the faster charger and the higher refresh rate. Making the 6a have those features will make the 6 or the 7 look bad, because i think those are the only differentiating features for the base flagship and the A series. The cameras are better in the flagship for sure, particularly the hardware. Google should've just given the 6 more hardware advantages, but that would raise the price. We just can't have it all...

    I just bought one of these to learn Android. Been an iPhone user since the iPhone 4.
    Never used Android at all, but the way the bloody prices have gone on Cupertino’s best efforts I feel compelled to master the droid. My Bank Balance might not be Depleted of thousands now, as in the past.
    Cheers for this Spiffing Video. I find your stuff highly amusing, spat my tea across the room a few times too.
    If I do say so, you’re very pleasing on the eye. Another very good reason to stay subscribed. If the world turned in a different way I’d be offering you a bunk up and a sausage roll. But hey Ho. You can’t have everything.
    Thanks for splurging yourself all across the inter web. It’s wonderful to have some one who knows how to mop up the knowledge and spray it out in a golden shower all over us adoring viewers.
    Cheers for everything
    Matt

    I’m so glad I didn’t buy the Samsung A53 5G. Upgrading from the iPhone 5s to the Pixel 6a, mainly for the pixel software exclusives and stock experience. I wish there still was a physical Touch ID button built into the power button. Was hoping for more than 3 years of OS updates. I’m only going to make phone calls and texts most of the time so I guess this looks like the phone for me.
