  • Hi and welcome to our channel
    after removing our spare wheel carrier so we could put a gas tank in it's place I ended up riding around with my spare wheel in the back of the van and that soon became a pain, in todays video we sort the issue once and for all by installing a Wheeliams spare rear door spare wheel carrier, we also undertake some follow up maintenance after a couple of trips away to see how its holding up

    Hello Sam, another good job done, well done. I have recently fitted a Wheeliams rack to my sprinter which I had powder coated in satin black the same as the wheels, before fitting to the van, I cut a piece of 3mm neoprene and glued it to the bracket that touches the van where it is bolted into the back door, I did not want any rubbing that may occur on the paintwork, also, I fitted 2 wheel bolts through the back of the carrier to position the wheel to assist once lifted into position.

      I did consider adding something between the carrier and door but then just decided to make the bolt that tight it would never move again 🤣🤣🤣 the bolts are a must the first time I fitted the wheel I was knackered so I made sure the second time I had a plan
      I'm looking at adding a ladder next have you fitted one? How is your build progressing?

      Wish I'd done mine sooner it turns out I would have scuppered if I had got a flat tyer as the jack kit was in complete no wheel wrench it was only when I started to fit this I realised how's your build coming along

      @@TheCraftyBlindersvanlife That was lucky. Good to see your brother getting in on the action again 😉
      I've almost finished the electrics now and just bought all the water tanks and plumbing bits so I'm going to be busy for a bit.

    The 180 degree hinges are different and do not fit this carrier. I had to alter the angle of the attachment bracket. Also the hinge holes are 18mm diameter, this does not present a solid connection using only the bolts provided. Spacers and shaped nuts need to be made. I expected that this kit would have been supplied with a much more professional set of accessories to deal with this. As it stands the bracket will rattle loose on corrugated roads with the risk of damage if not addressed in time. I would be somewhat leery about grinding out the tie bar, risking a fatigue crack should it not be done cleanly. There is a lot of dynamic loads applied through the use of doors and driving, with the additional offset load of the wheel you could risk a failure.

      We have had absolutely no issues the kit it works perfectly 👌
      very happy with how it has all turned out the kit has been on for well over a year now and we haven't even had to do any maintenance to it the bolts have stayed tight and the brackets show no signs of ware so no need to worry or be concerned
      This is a fantastic piece of kit for the money I paid for it 😁👍

      I'm not sure to be totally honest it can be lifted with one hand so not too heavy

    Why cut the van hinge the sparks touching the paintwork will rust the grey carpet on the inside is burned from the cutting you can see brown spots on it

    • @TheCraftyBlindersvanlife
      @TheCraftyBlindersvanlife  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You have to cut the tie bars for the hinges to work correctly when the wheel carrier is mounted in position👍
      You must have better eyes than me I can't see any burns or rust on my van
      we were very careful about what direction the sparks went

      @@TheCraftyBlindersvanlife hi just to up date the rust will not appear for some time but one thing for sure if any sparks touched the paint it will rust you should not have fitted that kit there is plenty on the market were you don't have to butcher the hinges and drill into the single panel off the door when if your kit was made properly to use the hole from the magnetic door stop which is double panel why use the hinge holes only ps look close at the grey carpet on inside door small brown burn marks are visible Ps I am speaking for experience on fitting after market parts they cost me dearly

    What about the spare wheel covering the tail light we would get away with that in our country

    • @TheCraftyBlindersvanlife
      @TheCraftyBlindersvanlife  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It doesn't cover the tail light in any way or obscure the intended function of the lights and indicators
      It's has past 2 MOT tests since I fitted it where do you live?

    I like that wheel carrier. Would you know by any chance why they don't stock for ford transit? Cheers

    • @TheCraftyBlindersvanlife
      @TheCraftyBlindersvanlife  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry not sure why but I bet there's others out there that will make them for transits
