Making A Super Cheap Bracket For The Spare Wheel For Pennies.

This is a quick video of me putting the spare wheel on the back doors to create much needed space in the van. I don't have the funds ( even if I did I would still do it this way ) to buy a proper bracket so I do what I do best and make something myself for as cheap as possible. Because the holder for the spare wheel under the van is missing, the wheel was kept in the van under the bed meaning I lost out on all that space. Costing me £4.50 for nuts and bolts it is now attached to the back door. Mick if can find it swap out the wood for some angle iron instead of wood it will stop it from bending the door bad 👍🏻

It has got a metal plate on as well as the wooden plate too

Extend the iron and/or wood to catch the edges of the inner panel of the window frame to help stop the wheel flexing the panel. As it is, you are relying on a single thin sheet of metal to stop the wheel flexing the door panel ( plus a thin piece of plywood against the van window edge ). All the extra layers of steel and plywood are still just over laid on a single thickness of steel panel. Fitting the wheel so the rubber of the tyre sidewall pinches onto the top fold of the swage in the outer door panel will also help spread the weight of the wheel, reducing excess flexing. A good, simple, space saving idea though.

I will do. I've had many comments on Facebook saying it cracks the hinges etc so I'll keep an eye out amd see how it holds up

@@Road.to.recovery The hinges should be ok. It is ladder racks and climbing pegs that drastically overload the door hinges. If you are just using it for mounting the wheel it should work fine.
