  • The chairlift at Needles Alum Bay is one of the best things to on the isle of Wight. Thomas and Elaine didn't d ancy it but Samuel and Dad braved the rather scary ride.
It opened in 1973 and can take 500 people per hour and it similar to a skiing chairlift with just a bar across the front of the seat. Apparently there has never been an accident there althogh we thought it felt a little unsafe when we were going down the cliff made worse when Samuel tried to swing it.
Alum Bay has various other attractions such as crazy golf and a few fairground rides.
It is also the home of the world famous Needles - a rock formation.
It is also the home to the National Trust Old Battery which is a Victoria Coastal defence and was the site of secret rocket testing although we could not work out how it could be secret being so close to Portsmouth and the South Coast.
The chairlift is one of the best things to do on the Isle of Wight in our opinion - if you have a head for heights!
There is no entrance fee for Alum Bay but car parking is £6 per car and £10 for motorhomes. Luckily our campervan got charged as a car.
