I was one of the main guitarists in a church that had a weekly attendance of around 5000 people each week for over a decade . I’ve thought a lot about what I was doing and how it glorified God. As the church grew and added more stage lighting… mist machines, it became clear to the point of being uncomfortable that the audience attentions were on the band and not pointed towards God. My prayer before every service was that I be invisible and that to him be all the glory. One night I was out at a restaurant with business partners and the waitress recognized me and was very complementary about my playing and how much she loved our church band.. big problem for me, I was clearly not invisible and all glory was not being given to the Lord. Praise band members really struggle with these issues. I am now in a much smaller church and I don’t participate on the music team. I am still very active in my church but my music skills are not being used or are they needed. Church service is to feed the word to the flock, not the world to the church. If what is being done in the worship service doesn’t point the congregation’s hearts towards God it shouldn’t be done and it has no place in our worship service. The entire purpose of our Sunday gathering is to point our hearts and minds towards our maker, to worship him and him only!
@@RS-oj3eb thank you for your encouragement. Truly appreciated and I hear you. I still play with a few brothers and we plan to serve our community playing charity events and church picnics etc. I agree that any talent I have is a gift from our Father. This reasoning is why I played in the outreach church for so many years. My current church is well served by other members and I play with them during special celebrations. Thank you again for the encouragement..
@@russdunton2103 Your welcome, I play drums In church on a occasion, few times a year when needed, back when I was younger I played every Sunday, now I don't at my current church, but I know my role and that's fine. Not all worship is bad, my biggest problem especially with playing drums they want you to play it just like the recording or close to it. I don't have that kind of time to learn a song note for note, but I get it close, and also I've never played with a click before that was hard at first, but God has helped me. But or worship band is awesome. I just do the best I can to learn the songs when I play, and stay in time that's main thing.
It seems that Todd has a limited understanding of what biblical worship is, as defined in the Bible. Using Psalm 100 as the reference, "Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth. Worship the Lord with gladness; come before him with joyful songs. Know that the Lord is God. It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, the sheep of his pasture. Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name. For the Lord is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations." We can see that thanksgiving is a way of drawing near to God, and praise as a vehicle to draw closer still. This is where some denominations end their "worship" to God. However, entering into the next step of actual Worship required all of a believer's being, and that includes both the physical and the emotions - "Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth. Worship the Lord with gladness; come before him with joyful songs." A believer's display of Worship is up to their personal expression. Band music influence believers to draw near to God through thanksgiving and praise and at times extend this influence, which could have a positive, or negative affect. But, true worship requires the emotions - It is union and communion with God in intimacy. In this environment, Worship is an aspect of Holiness - there is no union without holiness in a believer. 1 Corinthians 6v17 - "But whoever is united with the Lord is one with him in spirit." Of course: some "worship sessions" do have thanksgiving and praise; however it does not enter Worship, because of earthly performance or wrong motives; and the assembly's personal relationship with the Lord. This all sits in the framework of John 4:24 "'God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.'” - But this is a matter for another day. :)
Years ago, during an incredible worship service, God laid on my heart that I was worshiping the worship rather than worshiping Him! What a wake up call! Thank you Lord.
Thank you for sharing! We must be sure we are keeping our focus on our Lord and Savior. We also need to remember that worshipping isn't only music and singing...we are worshipping God when we study His Word and when we live lives that are pleasing to Him.
My husband is not a believer, but he has begun attending church with me. He said he doesn't understand all the music. He likes the preaching. He's a musician too! Ha!
is it hard being married to someone who is not a believer? to be yoked? i’m not asking to judge you, i recently ended the only true relationship i’ve ever had, specifically because i could see the inevitability and pain that was to come by this very same scenario, amongst other problems. hardest thing i’ve ever had to do
Praise God for your relationships with God and your husband. Jesus came to save the lost not condemn them. Don’t pressure your man God is able to do it in His time
I will say, there's a reason most of these "wretched" guys, as well as your husband, hate music, and it's because their faith is entirely head centered. It's entirely based on worship of the intellect. These people act as if the Holy Spirit sleeps, and that any form of emotion during a WORSHIP service, that's "manipulation", and that's simply not true. It's no wonder these folks love boring hymns sung by folks with no talent, including the congregation. Beware of the temptation to make your whole faith intellectual, your heart must be conformed as well, and that includes emotions, and worship is a good way to do so.
Once he is a believer, he will start liking it. It's because he doesn't have a relationship with the Lord yet. Also, there are different types / genres of worship music. He gotta find stuff he likes.
The only instruments we see in heaven are harps accompanying worship song. "Rev. 5:7 And he went and took the scroll from the right hand of him who was seated on the throne. 8 And when he had taken the scroll, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb, reach holding a harp, and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints. 9 And they sang a new song, saying, “Worthy are you to take the scroll and to open its seals, for you were slain, and by your blood you ransomed people for God from every tribe and language and people and nation,10 and you have made them ya kingdom and priests to our God, and they shall reign on the earth.” Though other instruments were used to worship in Israel, including the pipe, though never drums. When Christ rules the world from Jerusalem, horses will ring out as they move in worship for God with bells attached to them. Zechariah 14:20-"In that day 'HOLINESS TO THE LORD' shall be engraved on the bells of the horses." We know the music of heaven will be perfect holiness, purity, and innocence as these are some of Christ’s attributes. It will be far more undefiled and innocent than we can imagine! No worldly/secular/trendy music or beat, and immodest dress. The traditions/culture/society, ways of men, are not of Christ-Colossians 2:8, Matthew 15:9, etc. It is all wanting to be rocking and rolling with satan’s sensual ways. If rock music was not satan’s forte, it would not be in our so-called churches. David played lovely melody on a harp that caused a demon to leave Saul. (1 Samuel 16) Saul would rather be plagued by a demon than repent of his sins. We know sexy, rock music with its exposing attire is all-pleasing to satan and the demons. The Grammy awards ceremony worshipped satan with it. We know the demons did not flee. Various rock groups worship satan in song. Ancient harps and harp artwork have been located in Israel and other locals by archeologists, dating back to BC, and they appear to be the same as the harps we see and hear today though with only 10 to 22 strings. Today’s harps own 20 to 40 strings. A Jewish woman of Israel who is an expert in ancient harps, stated that those who hate the Jews hate harps. Perhaps stated from her personal experiences of being an Israelite. Women in churches adore sexy rock drummers and guitarists. Everyone knows the truth! There was a time when choirs were placed in the back of many churches, in the back loft-no show-off talent displayed. We are to dwell on those things lovely and pure. Rock music does not have a lovely melody of purity and innocence. There is a video of the naked cowboy in a church where supposedly the Gospel is preached and the women are going crazy wanting him. This is not of Almighty Holy God and the true Jesus Christ! Jesus Christ of the Bible is all innocence, purity, being undefiled, separated from sinners, and exalted above the heavens; Hebrews 7:26. Ephesians 4 says music is to be melodious, where God’s true children sing and make melody in hearts to the LORD. A sexy-driven beat is blasphemous to what is exampled. We are to be imitators of Christ and His example is harp music with Biblical lyrics as the Song of Moses will be sung in heaven. Archeologists have located ancients harps in Israel that resemble today’s harps, though only holding 22 strings. We must ask ourselves do the instruments allowed in churches represent a chaste, innocent, undefiled, holy melody that represents all of Christ’s undefiled attributes? Do you not find it interesting that satan was worshipped at the Grammy Awards? Did any rock and rolling church of the sexy beat expose and condemn this? I will add, placing drums behind plexiglass drum shields do not transpose the driven beat into a holy melody.
FYI, I was saved during an "altar call" in 1977. I'm a little tired of people dissing them as if they shouldn't be done. If the Pastor had not made that invitation to come forward that day I'd likely be in Hades awaiting being cast into the lake of fire and brimstone! I had been witnessed to from Isaiah 53 one week earlier and God's Spirit convicted me that it was true and it was about the sufferings and death of the Lamb of God for my sins. I KNEW I needed salvation but REFUSED to get saved that evening. I remained under deep conviction that week. I went to church for the first time in about a DECADE the following Sunday and went forward. I was dealt with by the same young man who used the Romans Road to lead me to Christ. He made sure I understood and believed each point and led me in a sinner's prayer for salvation. Guess what, while I was praying that prayer I believed and got miraculously born again. Don't tell me that churches should not have altar calls or that saying a sinner's prayer is wrong or even leading someone in prayer for salvation is wrong.
I celebrate your new life in Christ and lasting commitment to Jesus (perseverance) which demonstrates (to me anyway) that God used the “altar call” for you. Continue to preserve! He uses other approaches on others. We need to use many approaches to reach the lost, like WE ALL WERE at one time in our lives. Music IS a powerful medium. If the lyrics are biblical, it it exalts Jesus and not men, God can use our efforts. I like to remember that Jesus used 2 fish and 5 loves (a meager contribution) to feed 5,000. I celebrate with you!
Hi Randy...Wow, I just read your comment and I completely agree with what you wrote. I was raised Catholic and around 18-19 years old I knew something was missing in my life I felt empty. I started going to Calvery Chapel in Costa Mesa California and for the first time heard incredible teaching about Jesus. After about 6 months of going to church I knew I needed Jesus. This Church had classes to explain all about salvation and I walked forward as they gave the Alter call and received Jesus as my Lord and Savior, (Born Again) I was baptized in water, and baptized in the Holy Spirit and I have my prayer language. That was in 1974...I am now 50 years old in the Lord and 70 years old in life. I don't know how anyone can live without the Lord.. I know and I am sure you know He is coming soon! Stay vigilant in prayer, reading the Word, and being obedient. I will meet you in Heaven...I Praise God for you!
"The Case for Christ" is an example of apologetics, which is NOT a fad - the interest in apologetics among evangelicals may have been short lived, but apologetics is a command of Scripture
@@hgray55 1st Peter 3:15 could be used, but we don't need a command, the very argument for the resurrection, is an Apologetic. Paul says over 500 saw Him, Paul says this because its an Apologetic. I could go on and on, the entire New T in spots uses Apologetics.
@@flamingswordapologetics so are we appealing to the reasonability of lost people in using apologetics. Or do we let God work in their heart after we've given them the word
"But in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to *make a defense* [Greek word: apologia] to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect" (1 Peter 3:15) In classical Greek, "apologia" referred to a well-reasoned reply or a thought-out response to accusations made against someone. The term has been used in various contexts, including philosophy, theology, and law, to describe a formal defense of an opinion, position, or action.
@@hgray55 Is apologetics merely appealing to reason as a substitute for God working on hearts or is it casting down the many lies that people use to blind themselves or ignore God’s prompting in their heart?
As someone who was heavily involved in worship music as a ministry....YES...I saw this first-hand. Lights, loud music, atmosphere...evoking EMOTION....but emotions are a fleeting wind. I recall the day I knew something was terribly wrong...when our band played the DOOBIE-Brothers song...'Jesus is just Alright with Me' and it felt so WRONG..I questioned WHY are we doing such secular music to reach the masses for Jesus??! The Gospel, speaks for itself! It does not need bells, whistles, drums and amps...to motivate people to worship the ONE TRUE LIVING GOD. I felt ashamed...that worship of such a Holy God had come to this. My heart felt broken...WHY must we ACT like the world to attract others? Isn't Gods gift of His SON worthy of more respect than this?? I Left my church after talking to my pastors...yet none understood what I said....
I was on a praise team for 17 years. Now that I reflect on those years I can see how the way we did music slowly changed. From lights being on and windows open to blinds, the walls being painted black, dimmed lights to darkness with a few dim lights on and spot lights shining down on the team up on stage. I felt God telling me this was not right but I was in denial for awhile because I felt like I was serving with a gift he had given me and other people would say how blessed they were by our team so I felt very conflicted but we know that it’s not about our feelings. I prayed for awhile and God was clear, he wanted me to step down. People were asking me for a long time when are you going to sing again, I miss hearing your voice. Those comments confirmed for me what God was revealing to my heart, we need to get rid of the stages and popular singers, strip away all the things we think we need to set the mood and just lift all our voices together in praise to our Heavenly Father. I’m encouraged to see other believers eyes opening to this and I pray we can get to a place where it’s all about God because he is all we need. God Bless
Wow, thank you I love the way you worded that! I’ve had people say they miss My voice too. Recently, I’ve had dreams that I began singing out loud in a crowded place worship to God, and suddenly others begin to sing with me, and soon the entire world was singing and worshiping… It was the most beautiful dream I’ve ever had. There are times I want to stop downtown where I live and start to sing on the street corner… I do sing worship songs in my car as I drive through my city because I’m claiming it for Jesus Christ. I’m praying for the people here… But music is so powerful and God definitely has given us gifts in that area to reach people. Our voice is a tool that God’s given us that resonates in peoples hearts to bring the gospel. I think we need to strip away all the worldly accoutrements that go with the entertainment industry, and just focus on worshiping God
The subject is really close to my heart. You’re welcome. I hope it encouraged you…. I’ve been praying for the church and especially this area for many years. We will see it all orchestrated exactly the way God would like it to be. :-) In a way that brings beautiful honor to him…
My college-aged son was at the Asbury outpouring. My wife and two more of our kids also attended for 24 hours. It began from preaching in Romans, just as you point out is required. And the response was public confession of and repentance from sin. The singing was joyful response for what God was doing in and through people. One such recipient, my (at the time) 11-year old son who after only being in the auditorium 15 minutes was compelled by the Spirit to repent…and he wept for 45 minutes not because of the music, which was sub-par from a musicality perspective, but from grief and subsequent freedom. It is sad when Reformed theology demands God remain in His box, as if He never sent worship ahead in battle. Maybe salvation only counts when the proper words are spoken from a career pastor; I don’t read that anywhere. Maybe when people rejoice in song over Gods miraculous salvation work it retroactively undoes His work; I don’t read that in the Bible either. Or maybe we can celebrate ecstatically, for even weeks, when we encounter His presence and see His handiwork firsthand. I know I did, and I will continue to testify of His outpouring upon thousands, even as the music played.
@@ebbydawn I couldn't agree more. This channel has some good stuff but when you demonize books like Experiencing God, Case for Christ, or even the events of Asbury you are missing the point. Asbury was marked with repentance and preaching. The music is sparse and just because people get emotional does not mean it's wrong. Read Jonathan Edwards "Religious Affections." The books I mentioned have been beneficial in my life. I don't espouse apologetics as superior to the gospel; at the same time, apologetics can be beneficial as a supplement.
truthful God moves and n the heart of people young old teens and even young children he is the God who knows everyones heart not everyone comes to hear Jesus calling the same I know some it maybe a song that the words say something to them for other its a sharing of Gods love through the word and others its a still small voice and the presence of God’s Holly Spirit around them it s also true we know by the word of God who walks in him and we does not. thank you for your testimony,
Amen to this. What is happening now can be likened in preaching in the marketplace. Loud, lots of distractions, no response from people, and there are dangers of being persecuted; not the best condition to evangelize but why we do it anyway? Because we preach where people are. We don’t preach in cemeteries because no one’s there to listen. When we use music let us say even to stir people’s emotions, or even to advertise a church. The point is, we get people to come to us so that they can hear the gospel eventually. It is either we come to the people or we draw people to come to us. The gospel is the power of God to save people, music can be a tool to ready their hearts or at least to draw them to come. I say that God in His sovereignty can use nature and all that man may come up to so people will be drawn to Him and to His word. Isn’t it a time to rejoice that while nations celebrate stuffs that God abhors, there are people that are drawn to Christ. Why not think of it that these movements set the stage for the pastors and evangelists to harvest what they planted or at least prepared. I hope that we continue to work together and pray for each other’s ministries instead of discrediting others.
@@andrewmarshall7569 I believe we are seeing it in real time. Yesterday I had the most disappointing exchange with my pastor who believes "he does not sin."😢
@@dhblue431 Some people can't comprehend why people don't like loud bass blasted into their homes 24/7. "Christians" worshiping the golden calf with their loud bass to get the flesh moving and say that is spiritual. Take the same worldly music and slap some lame lyrics over it and call it holy(set apart). Don't do things the way the Bible says. Man knows more than God.
I think we have to be careful though because there is positive power to music. The Bible tells us David would play the harp for Saul and the demons would flee. It’s a balance no doubt- but we cannot cast negative dispersions on music in its entirely.
How about this. No music before and during the church service, then AFTER, and only after the preaching and teaching are concluded, then all who want to have music may sing as a congregation, to their hearts content. That way, everyone gets to enjoy the teaching and those, like myself who don't want or need the music can leave, unmolested.
@@Cici_Dial I wonder though, is there not power in corporate worship? When the army marched around Jericho seven times, it wasn’t just the marching or even the seven times. It was the collective cry of the camp. We see this in other areas of the Bible, where there’s power in the community.
@georgejr.9935 The word "worship" is NOT a synonym for "music". The conflating of the two is a serious part of the problem. To "worship" something is to give it worth-ship. To acknowledge the object of worship by giving it our full attention, and adoration. This can be done by paying full attention to the teaching/preaching during the service, without the distraction of music. For those that need it, they can make all the noise they want AFTER the service, and AFTER I've left the building. Satan has addicted the whole world with non stop, ever present music. It is time to fight back by putting music in the back seat in our services.
@@Cici_Dial I would disagree. Music did not start with Satan. God created music. Maybe the devil has made it perverse in certain aspects but it doesn’t make the whole bad. and absolutely you cannot like something. I am not arguing or debating that. But imagine for a minute you willfully joining in unity with the congregation for that moment, the power that it creates. That’s how we overcome the enemy.
Listen to the words of the music. One church we had been visiting had music with too much messaging me, myself, and I. I yelled out loud "it is not about me, myself, and I. We are to be worshipping God and Jesus Christ!" I then left the auditorium
Herschel… Hmmm, is this a repentant statement of your disruptive behavior or a prideful moment of drawing a line in the sand? Deeply engaging the Psalms, one finds plenty of appropriate “I” and “me” statements. “I need You… I am hurting… bend down to me and hear my cry… I will praise you… I lift up my eyes…” Personal pronouns are a necessary part of worship engagement because we are participants in honoring our awesome God. He has come near and we respond. Biblical worship is interactive, not merely objective proclamation of transcended virtues. It is a relational honoring centered on personal gratitude.
I know what you mean. I watched a well-known mega church online for a couple of weeks, then I realised that it was only psychotherapy with a Christian flavour. It was all about me feeling good. There was no challenge to serve and submit to the Lordship of Christ.

In the past when true revival happened bars, strip clubs, drugs and etc closed down because no one was doing that sort of thing. True revival can be seen by the change in the people.
That’s what happened during Finneys revivals. The bars closed because so many people were saved. It wasn’t just preaching, he had an intercessor prayer team that went before led by a man named Father Nash.
I think you are referring to an actual Spiritual Awakening among a population in a specific area. A revival starts in the hearts of Christ-followers which sparks more outreach in a community. When backed with much prayer among this community, it will turn into a true Spiritual Awakening.
Absolutely. Contemporary "Christian" music seems to get in the way of the Holy Spirit. Modern worship is mostly man putting his hand on the Ark, "helping" the gospel appeal to carnal men.
@@hannahtaylor1095Most songs sung in church today are not meant for large group singing like the hymns were. Most songs were meant to be sung by a lead singer & maybe 1 or 2 others. Most modern worships songs are hard for large groups to really sing along with. Some are easier, but many are not.
I remember when I was a young boy asking my mom to pray for this or that…. She would start worshiping first thanking the Lord saying I love you Jesus she would go right into worship. As a boy, I was a little bit miffed because I just wanted her to pray. She shared the scripture with me. Matthew 6:9-13 (ESV): Pray then like this: “Our Father in heaven, (hallowed be your name). 10 Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. 11 Give us this day our daily bread, 12 and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. 13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. She reminded me what is happening in heaven! Holy holy holy. Over and over again. I believe some good worship before you enter in to preaching or praying/ petitioning the Lord is healthy and biblical. Blessings brother.
I don't think anybody considers worship wrong. With certain styles of worship however, there is a temptation to worship our emotions or the musicians or our assembly rather than the Lord. Certain setups tend to promote that, for example working with lights, smoke, or, in my opinion, having the musicians on a stage which makes it a show. They should lead the congregation in common worship, but not be worship actors.
Where have the hymnals disappeared to? Haven’t seen one in a church for years. I also notice pianos have disappeared and now replaced by guitars which really don’t have the same worship feel. In my opinion.
Happened at a church I attended back in the 80's in Glasgow Scotland. 18 months later it lost more than half the congregation due to the direction the minister wanted to go. Was sad to see.
I know exactly what you mean. Small neighborhood church I was a member of thought programs and trying to entice people in was what the order dijour was. Preaching and reaching out into neighborhood. Finding a path to influence instead of being influenced .... Left there and unfortunately have not found another place. Many have it topsy turvy.

And here’s another one….me! If I see a drum set, I leave. Are there drums , harps, singers in the scriptures? Sure are, but not drumming, strumming and singing to the beat of rock and roll, and you know the counterfeit origin of that rhythm.
@ 0:37 I don't know why the book, "The Case for Christ" was included in that trendy lineup. I just found out about a week ago that my nephew who was formerly a police officer bought that book and had his wife read it and it resulted in her conversion to Christ. I don't know how many have been brought to saving faith because of that book, but I dead sure know of one.
without the scriptures being taught most these poor people worship a god of their own making. You can't know God apart from His Word revealed in the scriptures. They rely on the skill of the band to produce a state of emotional high which they then attribute to the presence of the holy spirit. I experienced this for over 10 years before the Lord graciously saved me.
This guy made big assumptions about what Unite has been doing. At FSU they sang some songs then JP preached the pure gospel for over an hour. Then Jennie Allen spoke about freedom and called an invitation. Saying we shouldn't use music is legalism.
Who says that Scriptures aren't being taught at these sorts of church services, though? Agreed on the emotional high a lot of the worshippers get from music. They also get it from the charisms in the charismatic churches. But a lot of the churches that have music -- if not most of them -- have Bible teaching pastors. You can see a lot of the services online, as many such churches livecast the services on social media.
My wife and I recently started attending a church that plays contemporary Christian music. I love it. The music sets the tone for the preaching. I love to see people closing their eyes and raising their hands while singing. They are truly worshipping.
There actually was preaching at asbury. That’s when it started. The music wasn’t pounding with tons of instruments but typically led with piano or guitars. People there were reading scriptures, praying, and praising God. There were chapel messages, testimonies, and scripture shared throughout the day! What a glorious time.
And there is nothing wrong with music! It’s just that many of us see a difference between “Breathe on me, breath of God, fill me with life anew” and “so heaven meets earth with a wet sloppy kiss.” 🤨
True. But that's music coming from inside you, making *you* sing, because God is in your heart and He makes your heart sing. Outside music which tries to manipulate your feelings and make you sing is a completely different thing.
@@alexmala6483The Israelites had musicians that led people in singing. And maybe you agree, but it seems important to remember- "feelings" are not bad in and of themselves. They're part of being made in the image of God. All our thoughts, emotions and bodies need to be in submitted in worship to the Lord.
Matthew 26:30 150 psalms Jesus sang. They’re 150 psalms in God‘s word. Throwing the baby out with the bathwater is not all that Pius. Another song, which evidently you must hate all of them, heart of worship simply reminds us that when we’re singing, and when worship leaders are leading their lead worshipers , and it’s not about them but about what they’re singing, this is a good thing. Why do I say that? Because God said so. And of course, no TH-cam videos could ever try to mislead people with emotional and voice inflection. And certainly preaching and teaching could never mislead people. Everything is how we approach it and how it is used to honor and worship God.
You're exactly right, Todd! There's too much music & not enough preaching. And what's even worse is some of the music in churches today sounds more like the secular kind whereas the Spirit-filled hymns are rarely, if any, sung anymore. Now we know why so many churches today are in trouble. Blessings!
Todd Freel must be the most negative and critical person in Christianity. He mocks any church “production” whether it’s musicians or something else, yet uses production elements in his own videos. The “set” he uses is designed to elicit a comfortable response for his audience. His walking around, following the camera is designed to foster interest. And no one should take issue with that. I’d sure like to hear Todd say something positive instead of too often tearing down others and assuming the worst. Any musicians serving the church must feel like I do after hearing Todd cast them aside as manipulative distractions. It’s more than disheartening and quite often insulting. Being honest here.
You make some good points about his set but he also makes some good points about the current state of the church. I didn't take what he said as dissing musicians. PTL for talented Christian musicians! But the Gospel is propagated best by preaching. (Romans 10:14) "How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher?" With all due respect, I can sympathize with your sensitivity as a musician and I am sure you are using your gifts in the church. But this pushback to Todd's message is unfair to him, IMO, and we should all focus on what he said about the over-emphasis of music (and other things) in today's church AT THE EXPENSE of solid biblical preaching. That's what he's saying and it is not being non-positive because he is PROMOTING preaching. We should all recognize the shallowness of MANY (not all) churches that focus more on entertainment than solid biblical preaching (just as Todd has pointed out here) and start PROMOTING preaching! If you can notice Todd's "set" and camera angles, surely you can see what he's talking about here in the churches. He is not tearing down others; he is trying to promote non-manipulative worship and biblical preaching. Written with respect for your point of view!
John MacArthur has him beat by a mile...I agree 1000% with Todd. It's emotionalism, pure and simple. One can have the exact same emotional response going to a secular concert. Which is all church has become - a concert. Try doing Gregorian Chant or singing old hymns on a pipe organ and see the response.
This is a repost of my earlier comment because your reply struck a chord in me (no pun intended). I truly believe you shouldn't tear something down in a message or sermon unless you're fully prepared to build back something that's better & 100% Biblically accurate in its place. Otherwise, you're destroying instead of creating, and leaving rubble (confusion) in its place. In Matthew 13:30, Jesus said, "Let both the wheat and the tare grow together until the harvest: lest while ye gather up the tares, ye root up also the wheat with them." A farmer may spot a tare in the middle of his wheat field, but to go pull it up, he'd have to trample down half a row of his wheat to do so. And there's no telling if another tare might spring up back in its place before harvest. A pastor may remove a person from their church or force them to leave, but he'll also hurt other members, and perhaps, entire families in doing so. Would it be worth losing 20 members just to stop one person from attending? And the message a pastor who does that is sending is that this person is unsalvagable, unsaveable, & unfit for the Kingdom of God. And if altar calls are a fad, and not Biblical & righteous, then I guess that church, God, and everything else that comes with it is not for me. This is my earlier reply: I only clicked on this video because I thought it might be something that I might need to be aware of. Sadly, it's only more of the same. I try to stay away from his videos because all he ever seems to do is critique Christianity, Church, and anything to do with God down to the smallest detail. He should write a counter-point book to "The Case For Christ" called, "Why Haven't You Just Given Up And Quit Already?" He continually slams anything that doesn't align perfectly with his theology. But it's his channel, so he can send whatever message he chooses. But I've yet to watch or hear one positive or compelling message from him. It's always negativity, doom, gloom, sarcasm, and mockery. THIS is not uplifting. THIS is not encouraging. THIS is simply tearing down, yet not building back anything better in its place or revealing a better option. THIS is not winning anyone to Christ. If anything, it's pushing Christians away, especially those teetering on the edge and people who have been hurt or discarded by a pastor or church. I always come away from these videos feeling, well, Wretched. And not wretched as in "I need to go repent," but wretched as in "There's no hope for me." As if I'm the worst person on the face of the planet. If that's his aim, he hits his mark every single time without fail. There's no way I could ever meet his level of perfection or match his level of superiority. I'm blocking this channel from my feed as soon as I click on the "Send" button. God Bless.
@@ooneybird27 Although I think the presenter in these vids (on this channel) sometimes makes some good points, I agree with most of what you say. There seem to be a LOT of channels on YT where Christians are accusing other Christians of being apostate, false, etc. etc., and many of them go way overboard with it. A lot of these criticism channels seem to forget what the Apostle Paul said in Philippians 1:15-18. As for music in the churches, there has been music of some sort in worship since the Psalms. Those who dislike the louder music can always find another place of worship where it's quieter. I think the presenter of this vid is making a mountain out of a molehill.
My dad -he was in the nineties-was the first to bring it to my attention-did not like the rock bands at church. He and mom changed churches and he was happier. He always wore his ‘Sunday Best’ clothes because of the respect and others in the new church started dressing wearing their Sunday Best also. It’s not in the Bible but I think it goes back to attitude and reverence of God. Thanks Dad!
Some people have never had "good clothes" to wear in their entire life, then I say, come in your cleanest outfit. If all you own is sweatpants, then come to church in sweat pants. At first wear your cleanest clothes to church, then look around and see how everyone else dresses and maybe you can step it up a notch as time goes on. Be aware that you can layer outfits to make them more modest. Even a summer dress can be made more modest by layering a tank or t-shirt underneath. I'm not against wearing sneakers with a dress either. The point is, if you wouldn't wear it to a job interview, then you probably own something better to wear to church. You should always give God your best.
My confirmation class several years ago wanted to wear jeans and t-shirts for their confirmation of faith in front of the congregation. Their reasoning: Jesus doesn't care what you wear; He cares that we're there. I said, while that's true, for this one day, you will bring your BEST to the Lord. And they did!
One thing I really appreciate about the Missouri synod Lutheran church that I grew up in was the choir was *always* in the back. We were taught that our focus was to be on God, not the musicians/singers. I was scandalized when I visited other churches and the choir/musicians were in the front. It has always felt to me that this leads to idolizing the performers.
Totally agree, I grew up in the Episcopal church, sang in the choir, always in the back or off to the side. Even the sermons are given off to one side. I have worshipped in several Baptist churches as an adult and the choir in the front always bothered me. Worship leaders standing up front seems even worse somehow.
Agreed! I was LCMS for a while and got to sing in the choir-we were upstairs in the balcony to the rear of the church (of course, everyone would turn around and strain their necks to watch us).
A person can choose to idolize whatever they want, whether the singers are in the front or the back. They could idolize their pastor, their church, their denomination, it's the person's choice to idolize. At my church they're up front, but the worship team is not showy or there to perform. Many people are there with eyes closed and singing, not paying much attention to the people up front. We don't whoop and holler at them either.

I don't think it was fair at all for them to include it. In fact, seeing it listed in here as a "fad" gave me great pause to question this channels integrity. I suspect maybe they had some over-excited intern put together that list. At least I hope that's the case.
Me too! I was saved after reading that book. It was the first time I ever heard the gospel given with evidence rather than being told to “just believe”.
I think the intent was to show that book was very popular with Christians in general. Popular enough to even get a movie. Some of the books shown like Wild At Heart I do think are must reads, that every Christian can learn from and isn't known for preaching a false message. But then you got the other books that were even more popular with bad teachings like Jesus Calling, The Purpose Driven Life, The Circle Maker, etc. where I think most readers didn't know better.
@@Dj.D25 That's a good perspective, I'm sure that is likely what they were aiming for. It really sucks to see books like "Jesus Calling" become so popular. I mean it's blatantly adding to the words of scripture and contradicting them.
Idk, my pastors wife went to the Asbury revival in KY and the Sunday she came back, she spoke about it, and after her testimony, that evening there was a very strong presence of the Holy Spirit in our congregation. We fell on our faces, and worshipped for 3 weeks straight! The church kept the doors open and the whole town and towns alll around came for a touch from God! I haven't felt that same extreme call of the Holy Spirit on my heart since 1978, when I gave my life to the Lord thru the Jesus Movement. This is REAL. This grandma says, the Lord is moving!
I’m so glad to hear this. Since I only heard about this from a distance and didn’t get to experience it personally, I tried to remain cautiously optimistic that it was truly the Holy Spirit.
Yep. I normally like him, but hearing that really upset me, because I don’t think for the most part it was just an “emotional experience.” It was a powerful move of God. I’d rather see that on campuses than violent & anti-Semitic protests, amen? The proof is in the fruit that follows, and it sounds like you got a whole grove 🍏🍊🍉out of it, praise God’ 😎👍
@@HogRebel Agreed. But there is a tendency for emotional manipulation through music in some of these modern churches so it is important to point that out, try to prevent false conversions. Of course, it’s hard to tell if a movement is genuine if you’re not there to experience it. I am cautiously optimistic that the Ashbury revival was Holy Spirit led.

I think a big problem with the evangelical church today, is glorification of stoicism, cynicism, criticism and the disparaging of music, singing, musicians, Godly emotions. You can see it by the comment section. It’s full of criticism, people refusing to fellowship with other believers, walking out of a church service if they see an instrument they don’t like, claiming emotional responses to the gospel are false conversions, praising music but accusing the musicians, claiming any emotional response to music is manipulation. These blanket accusations are not of God, they are not Biblical, they are not exhibiting the fruits of the Spirit. Singing to God and one another is a command. I do not think it would be wise to ban it in any evangelical setting where the Word of God is preached.
Superb! I was thinking of the same thing. God prophesies through Zachariah that He will rebuild the House of David and there will be singing and dancing in the house of God.
I quit playing on worship teams after 20yrs, it became almost repulsive to me some of the songs we had to play. Its been over two years and i have had zero desire to play on a team. Fortunately, we have excellent preaching so it far exceeds any sappy worship songs we have to endure.
I got rid of my secular music when I got saved, went to the Christian bookstore and got a hymnal and use it to praise THE LORD. There is a great treasure in the old hymns that show me who ALMIGHTY GOD is, who we are (sinners), and what JESUS did to save, redeem and sanctify us to HIMSELF. Praise HIS HOLY NAME.
As a church musician I have always regarded my role as being akin to the artillery in an army. My job is to prepare the way for the infantry (the preaching) because artillery never wins the battle, only the infantry can do that.
Hear! Hear! (Romans 10:14) "How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher?"
I don't think some of the things you showed were fads. They were products targeted at a specific audience. As long as the GOSPEL is preached at these Gatherings it isn't a. fad
I call it judging another brother/sister in the Lord whome you have never met. Are you saying all those young people in the video have not repented? Have you ever felt like lifting holy hands to Jesus in worship and praise? Or would that be deemed emotionalism if you wanted to express your love for Jesus that way? Please, I would never judge you if you were solemn and quiet before the Lord. I love that these people are not in bars and clubs, letting Satan have his way. Blessings
At FSU they sang some songs then JP preached the pure gospel for over an hour. Then Jennie Allen spoke about freedom and called an invitation. Saying we shouldn't use music is legalism.
Only God can know someone's heart. The concern is that whether by some intentional lighting/music/fog machine combination or red faced pulpit pounding helps fire and brimstone preacher salvation should not and is not based purely on emotion. Is it an emotional experience? Yes. Repentance is feeling bad for what you have done, thats emotional. Another big part of it is to consciously make Jesus lord of their life.
When preaching and the presence of Jesus in the centre of our worship, even without having intruments, we'll sing aloud.❤ Then i know the glory of God is doing His revival work in the believers around me. I see people come to salvation, stand up in resurrection power, and go out in the streets immediately to share the gospel. But it's intimate groups, 12 to 40 spiritfilled believers , not large numbers....yet. And one by one the flock is gathered by giving the Holy Spirit the room to move. But the revival started in my heart as i was quietly waiting and let the Lord minister to me in silence. Now the glory of the gospel is making an impact for Jesus in our town and its like a wildfire. Be blessed and be a blessing. Much love from the Netherlands
The constant evangelical preoccupation with the current new thing is partly why so many evangelical young men are leaving for the more liturgical denominations.
While it may be true that evangelical men are leaving because of the female nature of the praise music, they're leaving churches, period, because of the anti-male attitudes in many modern churches of all stripes.
That happens not only with young men... Some liturgic elements (what about the Lord's Supper?) and even candles are nothing to be afraid of for an evangelical church. But being pop-culture definitely should, because the people have enough of that already in the worldly realm. I'm playing guitar myself and always try to press for the „old“ songs and hymns instead of the shallow, often dull and repeating contemporary pop-songs. Since I became a Christian about 7 years ago I'm still astonished of the urge of long-time Christians to be liked or acknowledged by the world...
Yes, I am one of those young men, I still do interact with and serve alongside evangelicals. I go to a liturgical service on Sunday morning but I still agree with evangelicals on the most important issues.
Great question. My answer is that here is where you have to be discerning as to who is teaching the truth ( for Jesus and the gospel) and who is doing it for attention. Stay away from preachers that are only motivational speakers and false teachers..
I feel this way about all Christians posting videos on YT. It becomes about arguing and disagreeing and controversy and everyone calls everyone else false prophets but yet they are the only correct one? I think it shows the schism in the church in real time all in one place
@@cristiewentz8586 Fad is defined as, "A fashion that is taken up with great enthusiasm for a brief period of time; a craze". The prayer of Jabez was definitely a fad. Veggietales was a popular cartoon for kids. There is a difference. If you really think everything listed was a fad, then every musician is a fad, every tv show is a fad, every comedian is a fad, every book is a fad. However, Tim Hawkins is still around, shows come and go, and Case For Christ is still a great apologetic book. None of them, I would say, was popular, "for a brief period". Other things listed, however, were fads (WWJD bracelets, prayer of jabez, etc.)
Came here to say the same thing. I remember watching Veggietales as a kid and now my son likes watching it. Definitely not some brief fad. I feel as if he’s trying to say that stuff isn’t necessarily good either but I’d 100% rather have my child watch Veggietales than pretty much any other show on TV.

Wild At Heart I recall being semi popular many years ago and I read it for the first time a couple of years ago, which I wish I done much sooner, since I learned a lot about myself and what I should improve on. Especially since there seems to be a lack of good Christian books for men on understanding their masculinity. That book though wasn't as hugely popular or as influential as some of the other books shown that were a bad influence on all Christians.
Just asking.... You can do the same emotional music result with preaching just like motivational speakers get huge results that's a fact, so what has more manipulating power ? so maybe is not music is how music is played, not style but how is played and obviously lyrics because if the lyrics are from god then you preach with music, now i said "played" bc a synthesizer points to emotion especially if is played with this eternal pad cords
Perhaps the rock music and the flashing lights is an attempt to hide their spiritual deadness. Your soul can be thrilled by sitting in your recliner reading the Bible, driving down the road and meditating upon what my Lord has done for me. I weep and shout and praise God without any coercion or music.
I haven't been to many churches with such music, but the few I've been to the preaching is lively and (for the most part) from the Bible. A lot of black churches in the US have lively, loud music, and I'm sure that some of them probably have a few lights on the stage as well. Would you include them in the same vein?
There is a difference between lively and spiritual. I like lively church services but because it appears exciting doesn’t mean that it’s driving men to holiness.
@@graciesbarbieworld5441 No church is going to drive men to holiness. If that were true, no church anywhere, of any stripe, would have any scandals. But they all do. The problem isn't the lively style of worship. The problem with modern day churches lies elsewhere. In fact, the churches have always had problems. Look at the 7 churches of Revelation 2 &3. They had problems. Even Philadelphia, the "good" one. The Lord said that if they persevered he would keep them from the 'hour of temptation'. Although that might have happened historically when compared to the other 6 churches, there is no Philadelphia church today. It's gone. The region is Islamic, and what was left of the denomination was driven out of Turkey in 1922. All churches have failings. And "spiritual" is a double edged sword. Which spirit is in the "spiritual"? I've been in churches where there seemed to be a deep spirituality, that the members maintained was from the Holy Spirit, but later on I questioned which spirit exactly was present, due to some of the doctrines and some of the questionable things that happened during charismatic outbursts. Discernment is necessary in any church today. Probably always was.
actually it's being a copycat. we do what we see others do. if they use it to draw a crowd, we do it to. It's actually all about 3 churches: elevation hillsong and bethel. they all have false teachings and a false gospel and they write 90% of all new worship music. every time you sing it, they get a royalty. THAT"S what it is, the worship industry and money. It's always about the money.
How do you know the word wasn't taught? The Ashberry college students had their normal chapel service before they stayed to pray, repent, give testimonies and sing. “Therefore repent and return, so that your sins may be wiped away, in order that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord.” - Acts 3:19
My thoughts too. My church went from our beautiful pipe organ to a guitar and tambourine. I was skeptical. However, rather than being on a stage, the musicians and singers were in the pews with us, and we learned the songs of worship. It was a wonderful enhancement rather than something drug like to stir up the people only to wear off later. No solos. No show. Just singing joy to God as a congregation.
My wife and I were at a church where the music was so loud we had to sit in the entrance hallway. We were told that we would get used to it. I said, that's called going deaf. They literally offered earplugs for people who found it too loud. It wasn't enough to muffle the overwhelming volume..
This is absolutely absurd. Leave the singing at home and get straight to the preaching. What in the world do you think they're doing in heaven? No need for preaching there, no the are worshipping. Think about that fir a moment.
I understand the work of evangelism but I ask what about the work of discipleship? Mt 28:19-20 "go into the world and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the father, and of the son and of the holy spirit."

God can use anything to draw people to Him…preaching, music, our lives falling apart, blessings…anything. He is that good because He knows what will work for each person and He doesn’t hold back what is best for that individual.
This is what the bible says that works, dear! Romans 10:14-17, kjv 14. How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? 15. And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things! 16. But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath believed our report? 17. So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
David. As a young man, he was gifted in playing the harp. After King Saul fell away from God, an evil spirit frequently troubled him. Wanting to be freed from this oppressing spirit, Saul would call for David to come and play the harp for him, and we are told, “David would take a harp and play it with his hand. Then Saul would become refreshed and well, and the distressing spirit would depart from him.”
And later Saul became worse and tried to kill David. Saul never repented of his sins which ultimately led to him losing his kingdom and his life - God’s judgment. On a side note David sinned also but didn’t lose his life. Why? Because he did repent. That’s what’s it’s all about- REPENTANCE

find me a church service where music was used in the Bible or even in the writings of the Fathers. you wont find it. Jesus doesn't ever bring up music. we pull these scriptures out our butts when the things we want to do get questioned.
@@timgrant1219 No one is afraid of music, I think the Church has proven that over the milenia. What we are afraid of is music that is anchored in the heresies and bad theologies of the churches that write them and make millions on them. If a song is sung in church by Bethel, Bethel church gets those royalties, every time. it then funds the machine of bad theology in that church and makes those churches millions upon millions of dollars. When only 4 churches write 90% of those songs and those churches are hyper-charismatic and full of the property gospel and seed sowing nonsense, something is wrong.-- And we then fund them. and we have turned worship services into worship performances complete with lights ON the performers (vain much?) and use fog and giant LCD screens with images of said performers. It's all about the money generated from the songs. The new CCM music industry IS worship, to the point where worship is no longer worship but people robotically lifting their hands and closing their eyes-it's very profitable and very feminine.

I agree. True revival is not boastful. The hallmark of true revival if REPENTANCE. One who truly repents doesn't normally go around singing and dancing.
Jesus said there was rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents. After reconciliation there’s nothing wrong with a celebration as in the party for the prodigal son. Jesus approved.
@@TheJeanette53 Yes. But the parable has nothing to do with my comment. Some things to meditate on: What was the response of the prodigal son? The parabnle is not about the son who returns, but the son who was always in the father's presence. Consider: Who did the rejoicing? And please consider the meaning of that parable in the context of the lost sheep and the lost coin, as well as reading chapter 13 & 14 of Luke, leading up to the discourse. The 3 parable must be read together (notice the conjunctions at the beginning of each). Some things to think about: Who was Jesus speaking the parables to? What prompted Him to teach these three parables? Also, notice the difference at the end of the third parable (Prodigal Son). How does that differ from the first two? Hope that helps.
This guy didn't quote a single word of scripture. And I'm almost positive that 90% of the songs that were shown were singing verses straight from the Bible. The Roman Empire was annoyed by the boisterous worship of the early church as well... "Praise him with the timbrel and dance: Praise him with stringed instruments and organs. Praise him upon the loud cymbals: Praise him upon the high sounding cymbals. Let every thing that hath breath Praise the LORD. Praise ye the LORD." Psalms 150:3-6 "Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord." Satan knows the bible very well.....and he has perverted the music of God... MUSIC was created by God. We don't need to SOUND like the world to attract the unsaved.. The Gospel doesn't need dressing up. It doesn't need staged theatrical performances to evoke emotion. The Holy Spirit is what draws men's hearts. Prayer, the Word of God and the gospel...
It’s not even just revivals…. We need to be honest and ask it music was gone from your Sunday service, what would your attendance look like after a month? Too many churches use melody to mediate
Well, my perspective is the opposite. I hear preaching and teaching online all week. But listening to worship music by myself is not the same as worshipping together with other believers. So I think coming for the worship is not bad. Worship and teaching are both very important. Lights, guitar, fog is not important, but the worship itself is important. Better question, if you are in worship and the power goes out, can you keep on signing like there's no problem.
@@ethanmoon3925you don’t understand what worship is. Worship has nothing to do with being with other believers. Worship is between you and God, and it’s all based on your heart, not your emotions first. You don’t go to a church building to worship. Worship should’ve started before you ever entered a building. It should’ve been while you were alone. Pray without ceasing? Worship is the same. Pretty clear about in the Bible. Unfortunately my friend, I think it’s worth a reexamination for you.

It's also true that God's people have worshiped together in song, throughout all of history from the time of David until now. We are told to sing spiritual songs with one another in the new testament and in the old testament... well golly, the whole Psalms have musical notation to them. The musical quality may not have carried over from Hebrew to English. A continuous heart posture of worship is a very Godly and scriptural idea. But so is worshiping together. Please hesitate before assuming that another believer's walk with the Lord is invalid.
Still, Christ is being preached to these young people. For even Paul the apostle said: "Some indeed preach Christ from envy and rivalry, but others from good will. The latter do it out of love, knowing that I am put here for the defense of the gospel. The former proclaim Christ out of selfish ambition, not sincerely but thinking to afflict me in my imprisonment. What then? Only that in every way, whether in pretense or in truth, Christ is proclaimed, and in that I rejoice. Yes, and I will rejoice," (Philippians 1:15-18 ESV) Therefore, even if these revivals bring only one sinner to Christ, it would be worth it. And I hope you would all agree?
What’s wrong with “The case for Christ?” Was an awesome movie and based on true events A man’s wife who turned to Jesus and he was a journalist and wanted to prove her wrong, but in the end, he just couldn’t and gave His life to Jesus and became an evangelist and goes around telling his story and his son became a Pastor and his daughter married a pastor
Book was and is great. I don't think he was saying tjhere was anything wrong with CFC just pointing out it was trendy and bit faddish in our evangelical circles.
The problem with REVIVAL is the idea of REVIVAL itself (basically saying the Gospel is old and uninteresting and needs to be revived). The Bible does not need our help to make it relatable as it is timeless, it is people who need the gospel's help to save them. Or as Charles Spurgeon said: "I would no more defend the Bible than I would defend a lion. Let the lion loose and he'll defend himself."
It's people turning to God and Jesus. That's what revival means which is assume is what's taking place. That's what is happening isn't it ? That's even what the man is saying but he's saying he thinks it's through music
@@gabrieldovido7019 You're not too aware of these "fads" that are being talked about in this clip are you? You might as well tell me that the "word of faith movement" is faith in God because it has the word "faith" in it and the "prosperity gospel" is gospel of Jesus Christ because it has the word "gospel" in it. Sure, by definition, "faith" is faith and "gospel" is gospel and "revival" is revival but these movements have nothing to do with neither faith nor gospel nor revival but are deceptive charismatic movements to make "Christianity" fun and attractive for the sole purpose of growing their churches because (in their opinion) Bible has become outdated, boring and needs to be "REVIVED". Just as the "word of faith movement" is a deceptive movement that says "if you have enough faith, you can have anything you want in this world" and "prosperity gospel" is a deceptive movement that says "if you truly believe in God and give more money to these charismatic pastors and their churches, then you will be blessed with earthly riches and prosperity", the REVIVAL movement is all about "REVIVING" theses "boring" and "outdated" churches with lots of music and excitement and making them "fun and exciting" so that worldly people will be attracted to these "fun and exciting" churches and will have more reasons to come and "worship"(themselves). What looks to some as "people turning to God and Jesus" is actually people being attracted to concert-like fun experiences of overwhelming ecstasy that is temporary and has nothing to do with true regeneration and dedicating ones life to serving God. In other words: Deception at its finest, that leaves people the same unrepentant unbelievers they were before they started coming to these "churches" and using God's name in vain.
@@konstantinmorgunov196 outstanding. The Pentecostal/ charismatic/NAR idea of revival is that the early church lost its way and it is now being revived extra-biblically with the apostolic gifts which are being “restored” to the church, yet all these restorationists are preaching a false gospel. It’s the great falling away, not a revival.
@@anthonyprose4965 Exactly! And If people are having such a hard time discerning truth from false now, they are in great trouble as there will be plenty more false doctrines that will be even harder to detect as the apostasy/great falling away progresses with time.

My younger brother and his wife left a Phoenix area church because of increasingly loud contemporary music in a dark church with the mood lights etc. Our 90-year-old mother went to their church one Sunday morning and they went in during the worship set and she asked "what place is this?" Not at all recognizable as a church.
I agree. My pastors wife will come and sing the whole service. I have been praying on this because it feels non biblical and wrong. Thank you for your video. I have been asking the Lord for clarity. I love my church and pastor, but I need to follow Jesus and biblical righteousness. She is very defensive also when she does this… saying that it’s our heart of worship that God looks for and there is a message in worship.
@@gabrieldovido7019 yes. She will sing the whole service sometimes. Oh but they do take time to preach on tithes and offering and announcements but back to singing. It doesn’t happen all the time but more than a few.
David said "Bring me a lute." That was an instrument. Why? God inhabits the praises of his people. In His presence is fullness of joy. Emotionalism? You are off track on this dude. You have an incredible speaking voice, a riveting presentation, you touch the emotions (ie: manipulation as defined by you).... your skills of oratory and presentation are excellent. You are just "off" on this one. Delete worthy.
How about focusing on how to steward revival instead of downplaying it? Local churches need to get on board and help the traveling ministries so there is follow up. Using music and helping people connect with their emotions helps them realize their need for God so they are more receptive. Also there is nothing wrong with extended times of praise and prayer. The revival ministry I am partnered with does everything on a local level and there has been amazing results. Hour of music, hour of teaching, weekly Bible study and prayer services. Sure there’s people who come up front at an event and then go back to the bar the next day, that happens anywhere. Our job is to be obedient to the great commission.
The reason why people "come up front" and then go back to the bar the next day is because of false teaching. Churches often give an "invitation" for individuals to choose Christ. This leads many to false conversions. Read the Holy Word and know; we don't choose Jesus, Jesus chooses whom he will save!
@@evansmith6880 Didn't say there is no struggles, but repentance means to turn away from such things that causes us to sin. We are called to live holy lives. It can't be earned.
@@jimgibson4978 I would say that everyone leading these events agrees on this and there is heavy emphasis on repentance. Some people coming in off the streets struggle with this but there’s also a number of people who have been radically transformed.
Following 911, I lost respect for just about all of the Evangelical leaders who went "Total Bushbot" Preaching a false gospel of bombs and bullets. I pray for Ukraine, I pray they get saved, turn from the evil ways. As I do for all lost countries. But, in all my prayers, it's, YOUR WILL LORD, not mine. Should we not want to pray for the lost? Pray for our enemies?
Pray to whom? The God we are at war against? Pray for the Godless to prevail? The prayers of the fake "Bushbot" Neocon churches have proven to be in vain! On August 31, 2022 the Necon Bushbot churches of America were proven false
Yes we pray for the Ukrainians but NOT pray for the destruction of Russia at the same time. Same goes for people who treat you badly. You pray for them to repent not for retaliation. Hope you get my meaning. God Bless!!😊
Please tell me what is wrong with Blackaby’s Experiencing God. My Sunday school class is going through this book, and it has helped me understand the need for reading the Word, reflection, and prayer. If I am missing something, please enlighten me.
Most of us grew up in churches that did it the “right” way. There was preaching, prayer, confession and some hymns and a cantata in between. Every word of those hymns preached and reinforced doctrine. It wasn’t all about me, me, me. It was about sin, and Jesus, and repentance, and a call to Christian life. We lost that with “Jesus is my boyfriend” music. I no longer find contemporary church services satisfying at all.
Well said. Our pastor has literally reprimanded the congregation several times since switching from hymns played on an organ and piano to contemporary Christian songs performed (yes, performed, not played...I sometimes doubt they're playing for God's glory as opposed to their own, especially during the solos) by a praise and worship band. Apparently a few members of the congregation have told him they prefer hymns accompanied by piano and organ. Just last week, we sat through another reprimand; he defended modern songs by saying they're not ABOUT God, like hymns traditionally are, but sung TO God. That may be...but several churchgoing friends and I feel the tone of contemporary Christian music is more "I'M SO GREAT! I'M SO STRONG! LOOK AT ME- I'M THE BEST!!! (oh yeah, because of God, I guess)".

There needs to be a serious conversation within Protestant Christianity/Evangelicalism about worship. What it IS, what it isn’t, and whether or not what we’re doing in the USA/North America is a genuine reflection of historical Christianity.
emilee, do you really want to have a serious conversation on how we should worship God? Just think about it for a second. Who would be the judge and what would they judge worship on? The bible says, "But be filled with the Spirit, speaking to yourselves, in Psalms and hymns and Spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your hearts to the Lord." Do you know of any scriptures that we could point to and come to a consensus and say, "That's the true way." What you are really saying is that your way is the right way, otherwise you wouldn't be criticizing the way others worship. I don't want anyone telling me how I should worship, and deep down in your heart, you wouldn't either. Blessings
@@frankrossiterThose who worship God must worship Him in spirit & in truth. Many sings have little truth these days. And yes, worship is personal, but the Bible shows us examples of how to worship.
I agree. Worship is not just song/ music. Worship is the whole service: prayer, preaching, singing and the ordinances. And much “ Christian worship “ today is phony sentimentalism devoid of any biblical truth. Why don’t many/ most modern worship songs today resemble the psalms(God’s hymn book)?? Many today just simply want to feel good and have no concern for God’s truth and His holiness, they are false converts who had an emotional experience and they think this equates regeneration, in which it doesn’t, they are the rocky ground hearers of Matthew 13. And God does not accept just any worship, just ask Cain, Nadab, Abihu, and many of the Jews prior to the Assyrian and Babylonian exiles.

So what if kids like loud music? The important thing is that they are invited to a bible study after the revival so they can actually learn about their new found faith while the lights and music are off. That's actually the test. I would suggest that we stop fussing and look where this revival thing leads, instead. Perhaps you prefer they only sing hymns because only hymns are spiritual? That's just your taste in music. Your taste in music isn't the most important thing.
Be careful in this hour Sir... Gods ways are way higher than yours and your understanding of how He moves. He is working in ways none of us really understand. The point is Jesus is capturing our hearts again. Of course there is going to be mixture as past revivals have shown. Any move of God is going to be messy. Just be careful your not on the wrong side of the line criticizing what God is actually doing and get in trouble for it. Yes, discernment is crucial in this hour. I can confirm that the clips of the baptisms at 5:25 are genuine as they’re from my church. If we want to do things biblically, we shouldn't be having revivalist events where preaching is central. Instead, we should be equipping the saints to go out and preach the Gospel.
I think Nehemiah and Ezra describe the proper way. They gathered the people, read them the Law, and had priests and Levites explaining it so the people could be sure to know what they were told.

Contemporary Christian Music culture was a conscious overthrow of the traditions of the church, and its advancement led to schism within churches everywhere, more or less along generational lines. There have been other movements in church music history with this same revolutionary mentality, but probably never before which resulted in the level of destruction of local church communities that was achieved by this current generation. It is true that all hymns were once contemporary, but it is not true that all hymns participated in a contemporary culture war. I'm not addressing any specific criticisms people have concerning the nature of contemporary Christian music, just specifying that the word "contemporary" as used in the phrase Contemporary Christian Music connotes more than a date of publication. It also signifies that this movement is self-consciously hostile to church tradition. In churches that use both styles, worship leaders are careful to include a proper mix of hymns and contemporary songs: hymns for the old people and contemporary songs for the young people. So even when a church embraces both, leaders do not conceive of the contemporary style as having continuity with the traditional style, and do not consider them to be serving the same people.
@@johnbahler Hymns are Not just for "old people" and "Contemporary" praise songs are Not just for the Young. Why isn't it just that the worship leader chooses songs for their church to sing. Did you know that the song " Because He Lives" was released in 1971 and was written by Bill and Gloria Gather? It was "contemporary" music for the days they lived in, when some had said that "God-is-dead", they wrote a song that said "He Lives". I never knew it was "contemporary" music because it was included in the Baptist hymnal. For a time it was.... and now it's a hymn. Hymns are just the good songs that lasted long enough to be added to a hymn book.
@@SenseOfWonder2 It is not my position that hymns are for old people. If you ask a worship leader at a church with a blended service, they will most likely tell you that they do contemporary songs for the young people and hymns for the old people. I think it's a screwed up way of thinking, but I've heard it over and over again from many different people representing different churches. "Because He Lives" was contemporary in the technical definition, but the Gaithers were faithful to the gospel hymn tradition that was handed down to them, so it was never part of the genre of "Contemporary Christian Music." Saying that both things are or were "contemporary" is not a meaningful claim because "contemporary" suggests different things in those different contexts. Saying that hymns were once contemporary misrepresents why people object to contemporary Christian music. It's an equivocation and a straw man.
@@johnbahler Not everyone accepted the Gathers music and what you call "contemporary" music back then as already old music, now. The point is, we shouldn't exclude the Hymn book anymore then we would never read from the book of Psalms. Hymns should be sung in church and then the younger people would know them. Not singing hymns in church is akin to not teaching children to write in cursive.
And there is such a thing as social contagion. I’m not sure if this qualifies. But I do believe that young people today are especially vulnerable to social contagion. It’s taking place with other ideas and ideologies today. So why not wirh Christianity too. Especially since there’s these large crowds of young people and there’s music to add to the emotional, aspect of the revival.
A lot of church events and assemblies are based on emotion and music, or emotion and whatever pet doctrine that church denomination professes. A lot of what we call belief, as pertains to church attendance, is emotion. I've seen it with evangelicals, and seen it with Catholics as well.
I'm in a Contemporary Christian Rock Band. Our total focus is to bring CHRIST to everyone, not just the music. We use the music to help bring that about. But it's true that some "religious" groups treat church more like being in a rock concert than being there to worship God. You're right. There has to be a balance so that it's not too much. There are groups who really have talent in music who really want to praise and glorify God, not themselves.
Not judging or condeming, but the music and singers are so loud you can't hear anyone else in the congregation singing. Not everyone has the gift of playing an instrument or a beuatiful voice, me, but hearing the congregation worshiping God in unision is great. I attend a congregation that plays instruments.

As a mature Christian of over 50 years who has taught through nearly every book of the Bible, what concerns me way more is the plethora of internet-based self-appointed 'arbiters of discernment' like Todd Friel who think it their 'ministry' to criticize every other ministry that does don't agree with them, especially on minor matters of importance. They do so with demeaning videos, such as this one, to pander to those of like mind while ignoring verses like Ephesians 4:15 "but speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ" This passage in Ephesians is talking about how to handle false doctrines that have crept into the church. They do so with primarily philosophical arguments with scant, if any, contextually relevant Biblical support. When they do use scripture, more often than not, it is out of context and framed in such a way to deceive the minds of those who are listening. There is no such thing as a 'ministry of discernment' in the Bible! In fact, it is the duty of each and every Christian to discern for themselves if a preacher is telling them the truth according to the Bible. Acts 17:11 These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.' Even the name of Friel's channel 'Wretched' emphasizes the wrong side of salvation, namely that before we are saved we are, indeed wretched. After salvation, however we have an answer for our wretchedness! Romans 7:24-25 '24 O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death? 25 I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin. ' Before salvation we were 'lost', after we are 'found. Before we were 'blind', now we 'see' 'Ministries' such as this do far more harm to the Body of Christ than they do good. They present to the world a house divided against itself and weaken the impact that the Church is to have in the world. Mark 3:25 'And if a house be divided against itself, that house cannot stand.' This passage in Mark was a rebuke to the scribes who were criticizing the ministry of Jesus. The Todd Friel's of the Christian world would do well to hear the rebuke that Jesus gave his own disciples when they complained about another group doing miracles Mark 9:38-41 38 And John answered him, saying, Master, we saw one casting out devils in thy name, and he followeth not us: and we forbad him, because he followeth not us. 39 But Jesus said, Forbid him not: for there is no man which shall do a miracle in my name, that can lightly speak evil of me. 40 For he that is not against us is on our part. 41 For whosoever shall give you a cup of water to drink in my name, because ye belong to Christ, verily I say unto you, he shall not lose his reward.
While well meaning this guy is off on a different group every broadcast. Maybe he should just stick to what works for him and not criticize everyone else. God uses many people and many different methods to reach people. God created music and it has a real place in worship. Jews danced. Chanted, Sang. I really doubt that any preacher would win many to Jesus if he presented himself as this fellow presents himself.
I think he was pointing out how music is given a higher place, and not just that but it used to be everyone sang, now most churches it's a short concert every week and the congregation mostly listens. Maybe that's ok , maybe not. But in order to save people, they have to hear the gospel.
(Romans 10:14) "How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher?"
I find that what people like and endorse is from God in their minds and what they hate is of the devil. we are all liars and use God for our own desires and purposes.
These concerns, I believe, were the same ones Paul Washer had when he preached his well-known sermon to youth many years ago. Does anyone remember that sermon?

Using Psalm 100 as the reference,
"Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth.
Worship the Lord with gladness; come before him with joyful songs.
Know that the Lord is God. It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, the sheep of his pasture.
Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name.
For the Lord is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations."
We can see that thanksgiving is a way of drawing near to God, and praise as a vehicle to draw closer still.
1 Corinthians 6v17 - "But whoever is united with the Lord is one with him in spirit."
Of course: some "worship sessions" do have thanksgiving and praise; however it does not enter Worship, because of earthly performance or wrong motives; and the assembly's personal relationship with the Lord.
Very well put.
Profound
Ouch! Thanks brother! 😊
Yes, I have been to churches who worship the worship service - Truly sad!
Almost as bad as allowing women to preach over men.
9 And they sang a new song, saying, “Worthy are you to take the scroll and to open its seals, for you were slain, and by your blood you ransomed people for God from every tribe and language and people and nation,10 and you have made them ya kingdom and priests to our God, and they shall reign on the earth.”
Though other instruments were used to worship in Israel, including the pipe, though never drums. When Christ rules the world from Jerusalem, horses will ring out as they move in worship for God with bells attached to them. Zechariah 14:20-"In that day 'HOLINESS TO THE LORD' shall be engraved on the bells of the horses."
We know the music of heaven will be perfect holiness, purity, and innocence as these are some of Christ’s attributes.

I will meet you in Heaven...I Praise God for you!
billy graham did this to great success.
I think it is a start, but I get how people rely too much in praying once vs continual commitment.
"The Case for Christ" is an example of apologetics, which is NOT a fad - the interest in apologetics among evangelicals may have been short lived, but apologetics is a command of Scripture
What command of scriptures says that we use apologetics to reach the lost?
@@hgray55 1st Peter 3:15 could be used, but we don't need a command, the very argument for the resurrection, is an Apologetic. Paul says over 500 saw Him, Paul says this because its an Apologetic. I could go on and on, the entire New T in spots uses Apologetics.
@@flamingswordapologetics so are we appealing to the reasonability of lost people in using apologetics. Or do we let God work in their heart after we've given them the word
"But in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to *make a defense* [Greek word: apologia] to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect" (1 Peter 3:15)
In classical Greek, "apologia" referred to a well-reasoned reply or a thought-out response to accusations made against someone. The term has been used in various contexts, including philosophy, theology, and law, to describe a formal defense of an opinion, position, or action.

So well said!!

True revival will never be a fad.
True revival brings repentance, then joy in the realization that God loved me so much He gave His only begotten Son. John 3:16-19. Blessings

Herschel… Hmmm, is this a repentant statement of your disruptive behavior or a prideful moment of drawing a line in the sand?
Deeply engaging the Psalms, one finds plenty of appropriate “I” and “me” statements. “I need You… I am hurting… bend down to me and hear my cry… I will praise you… I lift up my eyes…”
Personal pronouns are a necessary part of worship engagement because we are participants in honoring our awesome God. He has come near and we respond. Biblical worship is interactive, not merely objective proclamation of transcended virtues. It is a relational honoring centered on personal gratitude.

Very weird comments…nothing wrong with what this lady said.
Then you answered the call. This is the point we are trying to make. Tone down the emotions and let the Holy Spirit lead you. The Word will open eyes.
My wife and I recently started attending a church that plays contemporary Christian music. I love it. The music sets the tone for the preaching. I love to see people closing their eyes and raising their hands while singing. They are truly worshipping.
As a longtime worship leader and musician I HAVE TO AGREE 💯 it’s gone too far!!
There actually was preaching at asbury. That’s when it started. The music wasn’t pounding with tons of instruments but typically led with piano or guitars. People there were reading scriptures, praying, and praising God. There were chapel messages, testimonies, and scripture shared throughout the day! What a glorious time.
What's interesting is that over 400 times the Bible commands singing or making music to the Lord...
Matthew 26:30
150 psalms
Jesus sang.
There are many problematic versus about worship, especially in the OT.
I've learned that worship is a lifestyle. ❤
Good points, sir.
And how shall they hear without a preacher?"
With all due respect, I can sympathize with your sensitivity as a musician and I am sure you are using your gifts in the church.

Leviticus states reverence my sanctuary.
You didn’t like the right Matador pants and pant suits? 😊
You are correct.

Is it really fair to include "The case for Christ" Amongst all those other books?
Yeah, that book doesn't push oddball, questionable ideas, just facts about who Christ was/is, and what He accomplished.
Our youth pastor went and he came back said the same thing you said the presence of God was there.
You see this a bunch in NAR churches, especially ones like Bethel, Furtics, etc.

Love it..
I’m a musician on a worship team. How do you continue being motivated to play? I am considering stepping away from worship music.
Amen, and it prepares my heart to receive the teaching.
I don't think some of the things you showed were fads.
They were products targeted at a specific audience.
As long as the GOSPEL is preached at these Gatherings it isn't a. fad
I know ...who are we to tell anyone their false teachings are wrong...they have to continue forever until God has to deal with it...or we have to.
I call it Emotionism instead of being repented and actually changing.
Nice one 🙌🏼🙋🏻♀️💯
I call it judging another brother/sister in the Lord whome you have never met. Are you saying all those young people in the video have not repented? Have you ever felt like lifting holy hands to Jesus in worship and praise? Or would that be deemed emotionalism if you wanted to express your love for Jesus that way? Please, I would never judge you if you were solemn and quiet before the Lord. I love that these people are not in bars and clubs, letting Satan have his way. Blessings
Well said!
When preaching and the presence of Jesus in the centre of our worship, even without having intruments, we'll sing aloud.❤
Then i know the glory of God is doing His revival work in the believers around me.

However, Tim Hawkins is still around, shows come and go, and Case For Christ is still a great apologetic book. None of them, I would say, was popular, "for a brief period".
I hate loud music at church. The instruments are so loud it hurts my ears.
My wife and I were at a church where the music was so loud we had to sit in the entrance hallway. We were told that we would get used to it. I said, that's called going deaf. They literally offered earplugs for people who found it too loud. It wasn't enough to muffle the overwhelming volume..
You aren't gonna be happy in heaven. What do you think is happening day and night around the throne? You don't think they're whispering do you?
This is absolutely absurd. Leave the singing at home and get straight to the preaching. What in the world do you think they're doing in heaven? No need for preaching there, no the are worshipping. Think about that fir a moment.

Romans 10:14-17, kjv

Too many churches use melody to mediate
I actually go late so I don’t have to listen to the “ugh” worship .
You're right
Well, my perspective is the opposite.
@@eldiablort1461 It's very true that all of life can be lived with a worshipful heart. That is a good perspective and a wonderful thing to strive for.

How about focusing on how to steward revival instead of downplaying it? Local churches need to get on board and help the traveling ministries so there is follow up. Using music and helping people connect with their emotions helps them realize their need for God so they are more receptive. Also there is nothing wrong with extended times of praise and prayer. The reason why people "come up front" and then go back to the bar the next day is because of false teaching.
All hymns were once contemporary.

With Rock Music, NO!
Romans 10:14-17, kjv
Good for you brother. I like loud worship and soft, reflective worship. I am interested what religious background all these brothers and sisters are coming from. I’m sure someone will say it’s not a religion….. but that’s not the issue.
Agreed. It is how it is used by many churches and it is sad. Keep using the talent you were blessed with to praise and Glorify God. 🙂 1 Cor. 10:23-33
I would rather see the kids today having an emotional musical experience in a peaceful worship service than some of the protests and craziness going on in the mess of the world we live in today. So maybe music only isn't enough, but maybe on down the line they'll think back on it, and think of it as a positive time in their life and want to seek a church or perhaps buy a bible and come to know the Lord and His Word. I'm trying to look for the positives here. But who am I?🤷🏼♀️🤷🏼♀️😂 Much LOVE to you all.❤🙏🏻
Ever heard of Maverick City??
Of course .. Cats! 😊

@@johnbrodnik839 I just went and sampled about a half a dozen songs. It's right up my alley! How did you know? I look forward to exploring more of their songs. What on earth made you ask me that? I appreciate it. Thanks so much! 🎵🎶🙏🏻🙏🏻💝💝
I am a Church organist. We have an introit, a gradual, an offertory, and recessional hymn. I try to pick out hymns that fit the lectionary of the day. Of course, I play as the congregation arrives, and leaves, but the music is there to back up, and reflect the readings and sermon, not the mainstay of the service.
I think you are exactly right. At least, at a minimum, save the singing for last.
Unless you're leading the armies of Israel into battle, right ??? Hmmmm...
How do you know they don't ? All you have is a fool claiming their conversion is not authentic.
He left off a big one : YOGA.
Such an easy way to let demons in😢
Along with Enneagram
@@sueregan2782The word Enneagram itself seems off to me. I think it’s okay for a person to understand their core personality type/traits but the Holy Spirit is our guide.
@@freyamccauley is it? Not all yoga is religiously entwined. And if we go down the route of 'the shapes are demonic' then almost any stretching could be considered that
@@sueregan2782 the Enneagram was mentioned.
This guy would criticize Wesley because his brother, Charles's music was prominent in his meetings.
The United Methodist Church has finally voted to allow Gay clergy and gay singing and gay members. This decision of inclusion has caused 25 percent of the UMC churches to leave.
I do not think the bible suggests music is bad, When some men desired that Elisha ask God something on their behalf, Elisha responded, “'bring me a musician. ' And when the musician played, the hand of the Lord came upon him” (2 Ki 3:15)
The Harbinger blessed me....I'm not about attacking others. If something doesn't line up with the Word ok, but if it doesn't go against the Word, let God judge.
5:50 - Odd that you would talk about removing music when your own 1.5 hour video promoting the change in the ministry had that music undertone (I barely made it to the ten minute mark before I had to turn it off due to the music).
However, I am with you in that the damage the alter calls with the constant music going has ruined so many people's lives (including my own).
Music can be wonderful. David was a musician. Some of the best songs I know are hymns. The issue isn't that the music is used, the issue is that the music is superficial and boring. It's usually just not very good music and it lacks emotional range.

I am curious how The Case For Christ, The Love Dare, God’s Not Dead movies, and Soul Surfer are fads? If they are, can someone explain, for example, how the Soul Surfer 🏄 movie is a trend. I don’t think getting bite by a shark is trendy or a fad. It is about a young woman whose life was changed in a drastic way and how she overcame with God’s help. Are you saying the movie is no longer popular anymore and it was a fad? Please explain because I really don’t get it.
You sound like you are the judger of revival. Why don't you let the Holy Spirit meet people where they are. Music brought me back to the Lord. Becareful in your judgements.
Thank God the music brought you back! But preaching is still incredibly crucial. The judge for the impact of revivals will be if the school changed or not.
@robertttt7104 I will never discount preaching. Neither will I throw the baby out with the bath water. God can use ANYTHING to His Glory.
Romans 10:17 I would suggest reading the Bible a bit more. The word came down, became flesh, then saved humanity. It sure was not worship for hours, then expect God to work with a message from the Bible for a couple minutes.
@@PewGoBoomLife You assume much my friend, you know nothing about me or what I do. If you're offended because I said music brought me back to Lord, then you have more issues than a comment section can help you with. Perhaps you should read more of the Old Testiment and see how much God was glorified through song and poetry. What do you think David was doing?
@@immar1075 Never assumed anything. But worship for hours in these modern times sure beyond what is healthy in the aspect of a Christian life. We also need the word. Jesus tells us that we also do not live with physical food but also every word that comes out of Gods mouth. I will never condemn worship songs as a bad thing whatsoever. The issue is what these modern churches are doing. We have churches doing worship hours and lookin like clubs! That is not healthy! And then you go to visit such churches and the word of God is not being spoken whatsoever. What you did is assume on your end that the video was condemning worship! It was not at all. Its condemning the unbalance that the modern churches have created! By the way I'm a musician and love music. But unbalancing is not healthy. Cheers.
As a church musician, I don’t think you can dismiss all contemporary worship music. We have pretty good mix of music and musical ministry in our worship services.
If the music is theological, edifying, and genuinely God-honoring, and not man centric, speak-your-truth emotional manipulation, then sure.
Hallelujah. Amen.
Indeed. True revival is quiet and true repentance is sorrowful with seas of tears even after a decade since God’s regeneration as the heart of the saved sinner truly knows that it was, has been and still is God’s Unreserved Mercy and His Unceasing Grace that the blood and the sacrifice of Jesus have redeemed him/ her ! Hallelujah. And that heart wants to live Coram Deo every moment and constant confession of sins and repentance happens in that person’s life! Hallelujah. Amen.
Where does Jesus or Paul say any of that?
@@curious011 brother, you must have real and experiential knowledge of Lord Jesus if you are a True Christian. Other wise , you shall be fearful as you are not saved! Please follow the teachings of Lord’s faithful, bold and holy saints : Pastors John MacArthur, Steve Lawson, John Piper, Richard Caldwell, Ligonier, brothers Paul Washer, Voddie Baucham and Justin Peters. Hallelujah. Don’t waste your life listening to wealth and health preachers! They bring you to hell!
@@faithlee5035 that’s my whole point. Charismatics mainly follow the prosperity gospel and its heresy. And I truly find it odd that God always endorses what we like and hates what we hate. It’s as if we make up stuff as we go as if God is only our mascot.
I am curious sir what kind of music would be appropriate before a baptism?
i would say the purpose of worship music is not to bring people to Christ, its for those whose hearts already belong to christ to express that love.
They do so with demeaning videos, such as this one, to pander to those of like mind while ignoring verses like Ephesians 4:15 "but speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ"
This passage in Ephesians is talking about how to handle false doctrines that have crept into the church.
Acts 17:11 These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.'
Even the name of Friel's channel 'Wretched' emphasizes the wrong side of salvation, namely that before we are saved we are, indeed wretched.
Before salvation we were 'lost', after we are 'found.
Before we were 'blind', now we 'see'
'Ministries' such as this do far more harm to the Body of Christ than they do good.
They present to the world a house divided against itself and weaken the impact that the Church is to have in the world. Mark 3:25 'And if a house be divided against itself, that house cannot stand.'
This passage in Mark was a rebuke to the scribes who were criticizing the ministry of Jesus.
The Todd Friel's of the Christian world would do well to hear the rebuke that Jesus gave his own disciples when they complained about another group doing miracles
Mark 9:38-41
38 And John answered him, saying, Master, we saw one casting out devils in thy name, and he followeth not us: and we forbad him, because he followeth not us.
You are spot on🕊
(Romans 10:14) "How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher?"
@@jimmybrowning4888so why did he list other things and not just focus on the central message aka his claim that all modern worship songs are bad.
I find that what people like and endorse is from God in their minds and what they hate is of the devil. we are all liars and use God for our own desires and purposes.
These concerns, I believe, were the same ones Paul Washer had when he preached his well-known sermon to youth many years ago. Does anyone remember that sermon?
