For the last 3 years I have been diagnosed with Interstitial cystitis. I have been on Keto - No sugar and no carbohydrates since August 2019. I dealt with this for years and no longer experience it. Yes, it can be caused by diabetes but for me it was anxiety related. If your frequent urination is anxiety related then it will go away once you reduce your anxiety, reduce your stress (including reducing stimulants) and learn to under react and even embrace the symptom. Before I realised that it was anxiety I actually used to worry that it was being caused by diabetes, which made my anxiety worse. Had bloods taken and urine tests done, all came back healthy. My posture was poor, head forward and rounded shoulders. I realised when i did two certain exercises and corrected my posture the symptoms immediately improved... Im happy to say i dont have any burning and back to normal in one day! Will continue with the exercises. Who would have thought posture can cause so much distress.
Thanks Dr. B. I've been sleeping in 1 -2 hour blocks for a couple weeks now. I'm following this guide as tight as I can. I look forward to getting some REAL sleep and reporting my results on this video.
OMGOODNESS....I wish I had found you sooner....I am at the end of my rope. I am seeing a specialist for awhile now and none of this was mentioned to me except for the diabetes. Ion a good night I'm up every 1 1/2 hours....most night it's every 20-30 minutes....I might as well sleep in the bathroom. I don't use sugar....but I do like fresh fruit. I am going to try this for two weeks like you suggested....I am praying this works
One other thing which makes you wake up at night to urinate is sleep apnea. There are many people who eat healthy and take care of their fitness and still wake up several times a night to urinate. I had this happen to me to the point where I couldn't function after waking up at least six times a night. Your body tries to signal you when you stop breathing for extended periods of time and in most cases will give you shaking leg syndrome however if this doesn't work it will wake you up to urinate.
Number #1 -- I stopped sugar six months ago. I have dropped from 250 to 200 pounds. I drink more water more often during the day. Number #2 -- I drink more water in the 2-3 hours BEFORE I sleep, probably about 24-32 ounces of water. This gives my body the water needed to do it nightly tasks of cleaning the body internally. In the first hour after I awaken I drink 16-24 ounces of water. Result -- I urinate less frequently at night 1-2 times at most. When I do urinate it is a good amount with no strain. I sleep much better with one less hour in bed each night because I am so well-rested.
A very poor diet in the last 3 years, including frequent alcohol consumption had meant that my insulin resistance had gotten worse. But, I have noticed that my urination frequency has been quite bad in the last 12 months. Having quit alcohol in the last 2 weeks, already my body is recovering to lower the need for urinating frequently. In another 2 weeks of sobriety, I should be well on my way to recovery.

Hi Dr. Berg So many of the people I know have eating disorders that are triggered by feeling pressured to limit foods! That then becomes THE barrier to simply applying the suggestions you recommend! Must be dealt with in order to make your suggestions *accessible* to everyone, not just those who can easily change in the ways you recommend!
I Cut down sugar and carbs ( not totally ) and have half a shot of apple cider vinegar in a cup of water, 30 mins before bed. Don't go at all now. Hope that helps. Thank you also to Dr berg as I have been watching for a while.
If I eat too close to bedtime, I end up getting thirsty, which leads to drinking water, so of course I wake up having to go to the bathroom. I try not to eat anything after about 6 or 7 pm.
Thank you, Dr. Berg! Sugar, salt, greasy foods are the main major contributions to all types of serious diseases. Getting healthy is tough nowadays with all the convenience of variety of quick, fast foods, all are readily available at our fingertips, literally.
For about 6 months, without fail, I used to wake up to pee after 2 hours of sleep, then after another 3 hours of sleep. I had a heavy cold recently, and I was so tired that I slept all night for a few nights.Since then I never wake up after 2 hours for a pee and only wakeup after about 5 or 6 hours now. I think your brain gets used to the same thing sometimes and repeats a pattern. So there's probably a few reasons why we wake up to pee.
Having a cold can mean the body is curing itself; getting rid of toxins by working up a fever, expelling mucus, etc. Regular daily fasting (16/8 eating window), as well as extended periods assists the body in detoxification; can also be combined with coffee enema, gallbladder/liver cleanse etc. For increased metabolism try adding IBT (Inclined Bed Therapy.)

My brother is in rehab from a stroke due to not controlling his diabetes. So he is on a " carb controlled diet" so what do they bring him... Pancakes, mash potatoes, rolls.. Then he gets a shot of insulin because his blood sugar spikes. Ugh... I'm starting to send him Dr. Bergs videos. I hope he watches them..
i used to drink 2 liters of soda EVERYDAY majority of it at night. I used have to urinate almost immediately have drinking it. 2 months ago i decided to completely remove sugar from my diet and boom! no more peeing 4 times a night.
Blood sugar problem: 1. Cut all sugar inc. fruits and hidden sugar in foods 2. No snacking between meals 3. Eat less, 2-3 meals and not hungry don’t eat 4. Add more healthy fat to food eg. avocado, peanut butter, cheese etc 5. More potassium eg. from vegetables, avocado 6. Eat more vegetables 7. Try IF (intermittent fasting) 8. Increase B vitamins eg. Nutritional yeast
I discovered this by accident and this explanation helped me because I thought I was doing something wrong in my keto diet. Thanks! I have been getting better (and uninterrupted sleep) for the past 2 weeks without the need to get up 2 or more times to pee. I have been using a little LoSalt everytime I use Sea Salt to help increase my potassium. And the ankle swelling at night is also gone. This is the best channel!

Dr. Berg, I am so thankful for your time and energy put into these informative and LIFE-SAVING videos. The way you teach is easy to understand. Your voice is so soothing to listen to. I am helping my dad lower his high cholesterol, thanks to your videos! 🙏🏾🙏🏾
Just wanted to thank you for this fantastic video. Cut sugar 100% and cut carbs by 80% or so. within 24 hours I was able to sleep a solid 5 hours and have been able to sleelp at least 5 hours at a time since. Prior I was up from 4 to 8 or even 9 times a night, so any good sleep was not possible. Daytime I can now go 3 -- 4 hours at a time without any leakage or downpours. Would I had found you prior, this had been getting increasingly bad for at least the last 8 years with little let up and no real help. My Dr. so useless I fired him. Thank you once again. Sam
I used to urinate a lot at night, and I think it has something to do with melatonin and all the blue light nowadays, so your body doesn't know when it's night. When I bought a pair of blue light blocker glasses, right away, I noticed I would only urinate once or not at all at night. So that could also be a reason for excessive urination at night. I recommend everyone to try it, you will probably sleep deeper and and have less disturbances at night, because your body actually knows it's night time. The glasses are only 10-20$. So the risk reward is huge.
download f.lux n your compuer...it's free. can also use it for cell phone...it creates an amber glow and gets darker as the hour passes...I try to stay off of computr by 9 pm because any light will affect melatonin production at that point.
As a Type II diabetic I would often get up for or five times a night to pee. Then I went on an extended fast and within a week I was sleeping through the night. After the fast I gradually went back to my old eating pattern, lots of fruit, lots of sugar and after a couple of months I was back to getting up several times a night. Now that I have eliminated sugars, fruits and grains from my diet it is a rare night that I get up to pee. A really good clue about it being s sugar problem was when I wiped down the rim of the toilet with some toilet paper and shreds of it stuck to the very sticky urine. My thought was that when the body has been poisoned it tries every way possible to get rid of the poison. Sweat and urine are two good avenues.
What is best to do, is as you testified: Extended fasting, yet also daily l6/8 eating window or OMAD... According to SCIENCE OF FASTING documentary, there are now fasting clinics in Germany. To reset retention hormone, did myself DRY fasting 24/40/96 hours - breaking fast in between.
Yeah he is one of my favorite doctors. I love doctors that get to the root cause of the problem and fix it instead bandaid or drugs that cause other problems down the road.
I'm diabetic type 2 and my numbers are usually very good. Occasionally it goes over 200 but averages around 100. But, I do have a bone to pick with you Dr. Berg- easier said than done. You tell us to cut all sugars and have only 2 meals and add high potassium. I have been trying for a week to cut my sugars and eat the way you recommended but, I find that I'm ravished. My potassium in my blood is 5.0 and I was told to NOT eat things with high potassium that it will effect my kidneys. Please advise those of us who are ALREADY diabetics how to change without endangering our lives. Thank you.
I'm vegan, so I do eat grains and legumes which are high carb, I could change the type of fruit I eat to just berries and cut out soy milk, which I know has added sugar. I usually eat between 12 midday and 7pm, 2 meals, lots of vegetables. Waking at least twice a night to go to the bathroom, I'll give reducing my sugar levels a go. Thankyou Dr Berg 😊
This is so true. I used to have this because I drink sweetened iced tea almost every night. I've switched to unsweetened iced tea and haven't had this problem since.
I've tried this for close to a week now, strictly no snacking between meals, IF, I don't cut out carbs completely, still consume some during lunch. It has reduced by at least 70% its crazy. Before this I went to the doctors, did UTI medication, tested my blood sugars it was all normal! Another hack, I moved my workouts 45min to the evenings, they really tire me out.
The same with restoring mineral balance in blood; like when flushed away by too much fluid intake... As soon as lying down - even when sitting - minerals are drawn from bones; hence painful Restless Leg Syndrome.
Yes you hit the nail on the head, I have type 2 diabetes, I drink a lot of ice water, at night is really when the water cravings kick in then most of the night I'm up drinking ice water, then urinating up to 7 or 8 times, so now I get what's going on with my body, such a good video, and info, thank you.
@1EccentricMoFo WHAT THE HEALTH unfortunately is unbalanced, veganist, animal rights propaganda. The starvation Vegan diet is nothing more than a form of fasting - good for a period of cleansing. Therefore it may turn around Diabetes. However, during re-feeding we also need healthy animal protien and fats in order to sustain our brain and nervous system, produce hormones, maintain immunity, etc.
To reset the retention hormone and filtration of kidneys: Try DRY fasting; I did for 24/40/96 hours with breaking the fast in between. Then was still going once a night; rectified with IBT (Inclined Bed Therapy). Now - with drinking to thirst - sleep through 6-8 hours; depending on previous day's diet.
This week I’m going to try giving up or at least cut way way back n my sugar n carb consumption. Hate to give up my Sunday pasta but with also having a gluten pasta tolerance it’s my one thing I really indulge in. 3.5 ounces of a brown rice pasta fill the craving for the week. For years I consume 5-7 glasses of water due to habit from a severe kidney infection resulting from NOT drinking all day. Wish me luck.

6 months ago I was waking every 90-120 minutes to do so. In March I discovered keto and IF, started practicing it, and now I am at a point where I sleep through the whole night without having to urinate; I imagine you too are headed in that direction. Enjoy your health.

This knee pain relief really helps! I am so grateful that the Dr. shared this. Wish I had known many years ago.
What’s the knee relief he shared?
Did I miss it? What did he say about knees?
Just found your channel. Could watch all day. Information overload, so I'll pace myself. Thanks for the work!
I can't thank you enough for all this information you share with us. God bless you. Dr. Berg.

Dr Berg, you've greatly improved my life, thank you so much for the education(s)
Dr, Berg I just saw this post. I have been watching your videos for awhile and just found this b- 4 going to bed. I'm 51, going thru menopause and everything you said, I am doing. I'm pre- diabetic an go to the bathroom at night, work, everywhere. Thank you so much. I will do this for 2 weeks, because I need to get a full night of SLEEP. Blessings to you.😊
Dear Dr. Berg i go to the bathroom several times at.night. iam 79 years old tell me what to do. thank you for advice in advance Bishop Arthur
OMG...thank you so much for posting this video! I'm a Licensed Nursing Assistant and knew something was wrong with me!
thank you so much. So sick of getting up three times a night. I love you to pieces.
I cant believe how much this channel has helped me, thank you Dr Berg!
This post of mine will help someone... For two years i had frequent urination, burning urine, burning anus and bloating. Im a 42 year old male.
This video explained everything I'm doing wrong, now I know why!
Thanks Doc!
Thanks Dr. B. I've been sleeping in 1 -2 hour blocks for a couple weeks now. I'm following this guide as tight as I can. I look forward to getting some REAL sleep and reporting my results on this video.
How did it work out for you? I'm thinking about doing this
When he said “craving cold water/ice water” my jaw dropped.
Lucky me for now, I’m only getting up once a night.
It does work. I started with this and after a few days noticed a difference already.
Hope it helps! Here is another video you may find helpful. th-cam.com/video/kLOPA3OyTBw/w-d-xo.html
I used to wake up frequently to urinate while sleeping, I improved it by doing Kegel exercises.
I removed sugar from my diet years ago. Unfortunately, a few years later, I added sugar back. I am going to do it again. I was so much healthier!
You got this!

Hi Dr. Berg
So many of the people I know have eating disorders that are triggered by feeling pressured to limit foods!

Wow! What a great video I had no idea that sugar played such a huge role and that prediabetes was even an issue! Thank you so much

@@maricamaas5555 A cold is a viral infection. But seeing as you've recommended Enema's and 'cleanse's, thankfully I was already ignoring your advice.
@@maricamaas5555 l
That's true. Brain gets used to the pattern, and starts repeating. Till you break the habit.
I've just decided that we all need to adopt information as the best approach to staying well. Challenge your own life style to stay most fit. And eliminating poor eating habit along w doing exercising has helped too.
I love your calm voice and sensible explanations and giving hope for improving our health.

Hope your bro has been paying attention.

i used to drink 2 liters of soda EVERYDAY majority of it at night. I used have to urinate almost immediately have drinking it. 2 months ago i decided to completely remove sugar from my diet and boom! no more peeing 4 times a night.
You are so Healthy to me...I mean what you talk about and in the manner that you speak is Healthy to me. Thank you very much for helping me.
Blood sugar problem:
1. Cut all sugar inc. fruits and hidden sugar in foods
2. No snacking between meals
3. Eat less, 2-3 meals and not hungry don’t eat
4. Add more healthy fat to food eg. avocado, peanut butter, cheese etc
5. More potassium eg. from vegetables, avocado
6. Eat more vegetables
7. Try IF (intermittent fasting)
8. Increase B vitamins eg. Nutritional yeast
I’m doing all of this and I’m still having the issue. 😢. Maybe it takes months to fix.
Thank you for having one of the most informative channels.
Damn! I cannot believe how right you were. I did what you said (focused on the insulin issue --- cut out sugar). A week later. All corrected. In 50 years... never even heard the term "Diabetes Millitus". Thanks Doc.

Sam
Are you still getting those same results? Thank you!
Dr. Berg - can you give a brief explanation of WHY water follows sugar??
I used to urinate a lot at night, and I think it has something to do with melatonin and all the blue light nowadays, so your body doesn't know when it's night. When I bought a pair of blue light blocker glasses, right away, I noticed I would only urinate once or not at all at night. So that could also be a reason for excessive urination at night. I recommend everyone to try it, you will probably sleep deeper and and have less disturbances at night, because your body actually knows it's night time. The glasses are only 10-20$. So the risk reward is huge.
You can also get blue light reduction apps for your phone, tablet or laptop for free. I use Twilight and it's great :-)
when do you put them on?
I try to put them on at least 1-2 hours before sleep. 2 hours seems to work better.
Or u can turn off your lights when it starts to get dark.
download f.lux n your compuer...it's free. can also use it for cell phone...it creates an amber glow and gets darker as the hour passes...I try to stay off of computr by 9 pm because any light will affect melatonin production at that point.
I'm so grateful for this video this is more than an eye opener is a mind, body and hope opener! Thank you Dr. Berg.
I did exactly what you did. My A1C Is 4.9....insulin is 2.9......i eat two meals a day high fat and still get up 4 times a night.

Thank you.
I think the good doctor would say that if one is still famished, they can eat more fats, like avocados.
You have to increase good fats as the body will switch to burning fats for energy of carbohydrates are not available
you are such a nice doctor and so generous. you are explaining patiently some informations and impt.facts about health.thanks for this video
Thank you, i am 42 and have been going through this for the past 4 weeks.

Sweet! Out of the mouth of babes.
I love this Dr. I wish I could give him a hug. He is a REAL doctor!!
I AGREE WHOLE HEARTEDLY
This is so true. I used to have this because I drink sweetened iced tea almost every night. I've switched to unsweetened iced tea and haven't had this problem since.
I've tried this for close to a week now, strictly no snacking between meals, IF, I don't cut out carbs completely, still consume some during lunch. It has reduced by at least 70% its crazy. Before this I went to the doctors, did UTI medication, tested my blood sugars it was all normal! Another hack, I moved my workouts 45min to the evenings, they really tire me out.
If you are retaining water, when you lie down, it processes and causes you trips to the bathroom to eliminate them at night.
Donna Keeley makes sense.
The same with restoring mineral balance in blood; like when flushed away by too much fluid intake... As soon as lying down - even when sitting - minerals are drawn from bones; hence painful Restless Leg Syndrome.
Thank You Dr. Berg for all the good information you are giving us !
@1EccentricMoFo
WHAT THE HEALTH unfortunately is unbalanced, veganist, animal rights propaganda.
This has never been explained like this before. Thank you for explaining. Can you please do more pre diabetic videos and how to avoid being diabetic. Thank you.
