Hi, thank you. Helped me a lot. However, I wish to ask if what could be the possible problem for this issue? Is it the battery or the sensor of the push start button itself? I have a 2010 Kia. And also, is it okay to always start the car this way? Thanks in advance!
Hello!! I just purchased a 2013 Kia Optima hybrid from a used car dealership today. It drove and started perfectly at the dealership and drove great on the way home. When I went to leave my house about 3 hours later it started and I went to back out of my driveway and when going to put it into drive it shut off. I tried starting it again and got a few notices saying “check charging system.” This may be a battery issue bc when I got portable cables I was able to get the car to start about an hour later. I took the battery to oreileys and they said that the 12 volt battery was showing 11 volts after being tested but that this shouldn’t cause these kind of issues. These issues are a little more complex than the one shown in this video, but since you seem to have a lot of knowledge about cars I thought I should reach out anyways just Incase you knew anything! If you don’t I totally understand!! Thank you for all you do to try to help people out with their cars(:
Hello on thank you for reaching out.. now on the Kia Optima Hybrid. Your starter and alternator are on the same unit.. so a starter/alternator combo. So on a conventional vehicle a battery at 11typically would not cause an issue but on a hybrid it could cause the vehicle not to start.. now you said the battery was showing 11v but how many cca's.... the battery should be load tested. Second you would also have to check the charging voltage while the vehicle is running, 3rd the belts for the vehicle should be checked. 4th-- since you just purchased the vehicle I would bring it back to the used car dealership and explain the situation. If they want to keep a good standing name , it is normally in their best interest to fix the issue. I know here in Canada(Quebec) there is a law that used vehicles come with a 1month 2500km warranty. I don't know about where you are. So to sum it up. 1-Contact dealer 2-Have battery load tested 3-have charging system tested 4-check all belts(2x) Hope this helps

Ok I have a kia optima 2013. My car is dead no lights at all I am starting it with the trick in glove box. While driving radio comes on and off. New battery. Any idea what can be the problem.
I’ve been having this issue as of the last few days as well; 2013 Sorento. 6 weeks ago, I replaced my alternator after getting stuck in a parking lot. 4 days ago, I replaced the battery when I got stuck again. The very next day, i stalled in park and needed a jump to drive. It was determined by multiple mechanics that the alternator had been installed poorly, was stripped and actually had loose wiring. New alternator installed and now I have this problem; the car will sometimes need multiple pushes of the ignition switch to start. No more than 3; I’m usually up and running in 10 seconds regardless; but this has never happened before the new alternator was put in. I’m dropping the car off at the mechanic today for diagnostic; any insight or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! …one more thing; it’s NOT the key fob battery 😂
@@JLsAutoSolution yes, it has been fixed. The technician said that he took everything he did apart (the new starter), cleaned everything and then re-lubicrated with an oil that is super conductive. I’ve had zero issues since and that was weeks ago
Any ideas? My 2014 Kia Cadenza has a push button start. Intermittently won't start when button is pressed. The dash does light up. I have changed the fob battery. My work around is pressing the starter button for 10-15 seconds. This has been going on for a couple of years. The dealership doesn't have cluse. Could it be a bad break switch? I'm not car tech savy. Thanks
If the dash lights up the key is being recognized, the issue is going to be after the button is pressed, know on the starter while attempting to start the vehicle, you might have a dead spot in the starter windings
Thank you so much for this! My issue was the second portion of this video. I drove and turned the car on several times today and then all of a sudden it didn’t work. Do you know what causes this to happen?!
my kia optima 2014 slowly stopped while i was getting on the highway i was able to get off to the side safely but i wasn’t able to accelerate anymore i have a push to start so i pressed the button and turned the car off then tried to start it back up again and my car would only turn on but it would not start i did not hear any clicks my brakes are locked and i’m not really sure where to go from here anything will help
Yeah this jawn official my car starts with the key after doing the sencond part malfunction when it did not start at first. Like a Manuel reset thank you
No there is no reprogramming needed, you have another issue on the vehicle, might be key or battery of faulty antenna pick in vehicle. it will need to be diagnosed.
Nice vid. That that has broadened my horizon again. But how do you know (second scenario), that the brake switch is the reason for that? Actually you have to press the brake. If you do not, there should no ignition be possible. The key fob pressed on the start button, bridges ALL failures in the system, but not just a bad brake switch. Following that, there could be another reason for a not starting engine, i.e. the starter button itself [imho].
personal experience-- just listen for the neutral safety switch in the shifter assembly, if it doesnt click there is an issue, also look at the brake lights- if they do not light while pressing the brake pedal the brake switch is most likely at fault. I have been working on with kia since 2010, so i have seen a lot of issues.. thanks for watching and the question.
1-Does the dash turn on-? yes or no 2-does the engine crank?-yes or no 3- do you see the immobilizer light?-yes or no 4-if yes to previous questions there probably is an issue with the starting circuit. 5-if no to any of the previous questions Diagnose the concern.
Hi! I followed the 2 ways on video. THE IMMOBILIZER IS ON. I inserted the Fob key inside the gearbox . It lights up but car will not start. Not sure why. Any help will be appreciated
Did you try holding the key on the start button, if so, Then it will need to be brought to a reputable shop for diagnosis. it might be battery/starter/ start signal/relay/fuse/engine mechanical.. Without more details.. like a complete code scan of the vehicle, and a little bit of details like where it happened, has this happened before? I cannot help to much. thanks for watching and sorry i could not be of more help.
I have the exact same problems except I don’t have that light show up on my dash. The immobilizer light. Any ideas? When I jump the car it turns on immediately and then I’m good for a couple days before this all happens again
if you live in the U.S.A, it was not mandatory for vehicle manufacturers to put immobilizers in their vehicles, where as is in Canada it is mandatory. So you may not have an immo system on your vehicle. i would check for a bad alternator or maybe even a starter that is beginning to go bad(burnt solenoid contacts)... test don't guess😁
Try holding the key at button then push on the button with key and hold it. If it was an immobilizer issue. 1(it would flash) 2(the immo light would not show on dash) may I ask which vehicle this is for
@@tayloranne7074 Hi sorry for the late reply. They installed a new engine free of charge as the car was listed in as part of the 2017 recall. It's engine related and cant be fixed according to them and a mechanic would have to tear apart the entire engine and build it from scratch. According to Motorsafety the below info was generated as of November 2021 "Connecting rod bearings are designed to cut down on the friction between engine parts. In the affected vehicles, these bearings may suffer from premature wear, which may cause the engine to stall while driving. In addition, the connecting rod can snap and pierce the engine, which may cause an oil leak and result in a fire". This is the major problem with most Kia's and Hyundai's. It's more than a battery or starter issue
For my Kia Majentis 2010, with a 2.7 litre, the immobiliser light comes on, along with the engine, oil and battery light. Battery is brand new in the car and the key, and oil was just changed, but the car won’t start. I tried both methods because we were thinking it was the immobiliser, but the starter won’t even turn over (my best guess is that it’s potentially the starter but not 100% certain). Any ideas?
sorry for the late reply 1-if you have a remote starter, have it removed and all the wiring repaired 2-I would suggest you have the vehicle scanned for dtcs*full system scan. 3-if that passes then i would move on to the starter for testing- *note that this could lead to the brake switch/push button/ smart key module/relay / fuses/wiring/fuse box.* there is no easy way to diagnose a no start hopefully you get an experienced technician and they can locate the issue quickly. thanks for watching
Man this saved me so much trouble and money thank you! ONE QUESTION: what can indo so i dont have to do this same process every time i need to turn the car on?
thank you, really help me a lot, same problem to my car, nway may i know what is the real prob. and what should i change to make my car can start again normal way thank you
I clicked the key fob on the glove compartment and the car started perfectly when it was plugged in. I took it for a drive and all was good. I took the fob out of the compartment and tried to start it. Same issue. Immobilizer light came on. I used my scan tool to reprogram the fobs and it says reprogrammed but still the immobilizer light comes on and the car will not start. Any help will be appreciated.
if you baught new keys and did not buy the proximity one then the vehicle will only start when the key is inserted. if it's your old key then there might be a key issue or antenna issue.
@@JLsAutoSolution All original fobs. Changed all of the batteries still no go. What antenna issue are you speaking about? I am leaning to that conclusion myself. If so how can it be replaced?
My 2011 Kia Sorento will not detect the key fob at all, and there no immobilizer light on the dash. Kia doesn’t know what’s wrong with it, I’ve sent it to 3 different dealerships now. We have fixed wiring, changed the fuse box, new battery in vehicle and key fob. What could be the issue, and is it something that we could fix ourselves?
If you are in the montreal area i could give this a look and see if i can help? but if not, I wuld at least need the dtc's that are present and also know if there is a remote starter on the vehicle.
Hi my kia rio 2013 push start button doesn’t start, they scan it and it says immobilizer smart key no response. Immobilizer light is on. Does it need a immo code to re-program? TIA.
Hi Rachel. Thanks for reaching out. So a no response message means that the pcm is not receiving the signal from the key to start the vehicle. Now this could be anything from key/fuse/wiring/ or module. 1st question is- does the vehicle have a remote starter. If so have it removed and wiring repaired. 2- yes you need a pin code in order to program the keys, unfortunately these are not normally available to the public. But if you have all the documentation to prove that the vehicle is yours, you could fight a little to get the pin code...(new/old). If not a lock smith or dealer will be your best bet for reprogramming. Or maybe a free lancer. So in other words I would strongly suggest getting the vehicle a proper diagnosis. This code normally takes maximum 2hrours to diagnose. Hopes this helps. And don't forget a second opinion could save you thousands. Thanks for watching
you could have a bad brake switch, but always scan for dtcs before performing any diagnostics. they can sometimes point you in the right direction, and never replace a component based off a DTC. thanks for watching
@@JLsAutoSolution thanks sir for answering my question. but can it affect the condition of the engine or can I just let it go .. is it easy to do or does it cost a lot sir?

3- do you see the immobilizer light?-yes or no
4-if yes to previous questions there probably is an issue with the starting circuit.

In a 2012 koa Optima SX immobilozer light on but still can't get to start please help
After i put my car key at push start button then only immobilizer light appear...but still cant start....is it immobilizer issue?
Try holding the key at button then push on the button with key and hold it. If it was an immobilizer issue. 1(it would flash) 2(the immo light would not show on dash) may I ask which vehicle this is for
If this happened, Put your car in neutral and while in neutral it should start up.
My Kia Optima had this problem at 155 000 km. Car in video had at 152 000km. Its a big problem. Took to dealership to fix
What did they fix?
I am having the second issue but my dealership is saying theres nothing wrong with my car.
I was stuck!! Thank you for this!!
Happy to help!
Do you know why it does this? Is this common with a lot of push start vehicles?
For my Kia Majentis 2010, with a 2.7 litre, the immobiliser light comes on, along with the engine, oil and battery light. Battery is brand new in the car and the key, and oil was just changed, but the car won’t start. I tried both methods because we were thinking it was the immobiliser, but the starter won’t even turn over (my best guess is that it’s potentially the starter but not 100% certain). Any ideas?
sorry for the late reply
1-if you have a remote starter, have it removed and all the wiring repaired
2-I would suggest you have the vehicle scanned for dtcs*full system scan.
3-if that passes then i would move on to the starter for testing-
*note that this could lead to the brake switch/push button/ smart key module/relay / fuses/wiring/fuse box.*
there is no easy way to diagnose a no start hopefully you get an experienced technician and they can locate the issue quickly.
thanks for watching
Thanks for the video!
You're welcome!
Helped a lot thanks fixed my son problem...🙏🏿
Happy to help
Thank you!! this was very helpful!
Glad it was helpful!
Man this saved me so much trouble and money thank you! ONE QUESTION: what can indo so i dont have to do this same process every time i need to turn the car on?
it depends on which scenario you used.
I was stuck and your video of great help thanks
You're very welcome!
You do not need to use the key fob to push the start button during the 10 second delay to start without pressing the brake pedal.
Thank you. It really a big help
Glad it helped!
thank you, really help me a lot, same problem to my car, nway may i know what is the real prob. and what should i change to make my car can start again normal way thank you
Mine is doing the second thing you shown my question is Why, thank in advance
im a little late on the reply, sorry, you could have a fault in the brake switch circuit.
and if i dont have the push start but the same problem ?
then you have a physical key, which means its a starting issue, kia vehicles( key) crank but not start when the immobilizer system has an error.
@@JLsAutoSolution yes, its exactly my problem. I Will have to go to the kia centre ?
This way can work for Kia Sportage 2013 ?
if it is a push start system(proximity) then yes
What if all the lights come on on a dashboard like it's going to start up but it still doesn't start
Jolynn did you ever get this issue resolved? What was the fix?
Thanks for watching
sir how to solve the second scenario .. is that normal 10 seconds before starting?
you could have a bad brake switch, but always scan for dtcs before performing any diagnostics. they can sometimes point you in the right direction, and never replace a component based off a DTC.
thanks for watching
@@JLsAutoSolution thanks sir for answering my question. but can it affect the condition of the engine or can I just let it go .. is it easy to do or does it cost a lot sir?
You’re the best thank you
You're welcome!
Muy buenas tardes yo tengo el problema pero en el apagado no me detecta la llave y me sale ese símbolo de carrito pero para apagarla
Very helpful thank u very much, I really appreciate it
Great small tips. Read the owners manual is the moral of the story. Lol
So true!
Bro amazing! Too bad it’s after I already shelled out to have a new starter installed I can’t believe the dealership didn’t consider that my fob might’ve been dead
THANK YOU...
AND THANKS FOR WATCHING
Well if it started after installing a new starter and they used your key fob to start it somebody tellin stories.
I'm surprised you both didn't consider the fob might be dead because you won't be able to get the door unlocked either...
@@Newlinjim I live in the country and just leave my keys in the car. When the battery got low it wouldn’t work in the cold. Same reason I never lock my doors
@@pdog2448 the fob worked at the dealership because it was in a heated garage. Funny people think I would lie about being an idiot. “Oh look at me I wasted a bunch of money on a starter I didn’t need. Aren’t I so cool!”
Thank you it's helpful video
You are welcome
God Bless You xoxoxo, it worked, O My Jesus, I’m sooo happy right now, thank you so much for sharing your knowledge
You're welcome!
I got an issue for a asian hyundai sonata 2010.when I push the burton, dashboard no light on and it's say key not detected .and I taught the remote battery weak, after changing it,still the same problem.i had check the brake pedal sensor,it's good shape.been using start on console plug for few year but now sometimes need 3 to 4 times to start up using console box plug.
there might be a receiver issue or a key issue. th-cam.com/video/Ofz8vdNEedc/w-d-xo.html link in this video for a key.. they key worked on my vehicle... just make sure the key is listed for your make and model.
@@JLsAutoSolution thx for ur guideline. i been test my car with remote and change battery on it. door can lock and unlock by remote but door handle button not working and inside car ,its say key not detected with push start button.i had to use emergency plug on console box to start.do u know where can i find the location of the transmitter receive inside my car? i already check all the signal receive outside the car .its work fine, rear boot can open by remote too.i know one is under bottom the console box,the other 1 i can,t find it.
@@snoopy81 i would suggest you scan for dtcs/ trouble codes so you have a baseline for diagnosing your issue.. Also make sure you do not have a remote starter installed..
@@JLsAutoSolution I had diagnosis the car with gscan2 but no code on it.as I test play using gscan2 on the door handle button,it sounds connected but not working.im guessing the antenna of the transmitter inside the car is bad maybe.
