Walking through 2,000 Year Old TREES: Sequoia National Park

  • Today's adventure takes us to Southern California to a forest containing the largest tree (by volume) on the planet! I don't really know how to properly convey the emotions you feel when walking through a forest older than anything I can reasonably wrap my head around. Sequoia trees can live up to 3,300 years old or so, many of the trees I saw were around 2,000 years old. They were tall, and incredibly wide at the base, and I did a horrible job at capturing their true gigantic features. This is an experience I won't soon be forgetting, and trees are officially ruined for me moving forward. I will have this as now a point of comparison for the rest of my life... Thank you all for watching, and I hope you all have a very lovely weekend!

    A dream of mine (I am 55 yrs old) has always been to see General Sherman and to visit California. Finally made it to CA for the first time this past May. There were still lots of road closures at Kings and Sequoia after they had all those crazy storms earlier in the year. Got to see General Grant and sequoias over there, thankfully, but the roads to see Sherman opened about 1 week after we left! This only means I will try again someday, hopefully sooner rather than later. It truly was magical seeing Giant Sequoias in real life. I felt exactly like you did in this video!

      I was not mentally prepared for the snow, coming from Arizona where it was 110 degrees, then to snow in the mountains the next day. Very cool.

    You might enjoy Redwood National Park on the coast in northern California, with Fern Canyon.. Not quite as tall as sequoias, but hiking among the redwoods there a few weeks ago was still mostly just going "wuuuoooaaaa!" every few feet.

    One of the national parks I've long wanted to visit but still haven't, along with its big brother to the north, Yosemite, and nearby Mt Whitney. I have been to Redwoods NP, though, also well worth a visit especially since it's by the Pacific and a particularly spectacular section of it. The only trees that I know of that live as long as the sequoias are bristlecone pines and olive trees (I'm sure that there are others of course).
    Some of these trees are so old that they actually predate the Roman empire! That's beyond my ability to comprehend. Just imagine, while Caesar was doing his thing and trying real hard to stay away from sharp objects and Brutus, these trees were saplings or not much bigger halfway around the world. And they're so big! Much bigger than a breadbox in fact. I bet Caesar was never this big!
    Thanks again Angie for bringing us to places that we either haven't been to, or have and want to relive. You are now officially my favorite travel vlogger. Very ASMR but also really funny. And I don't care what that tree thinks, you're not so bad to look at even if you're not 30 feet wide. 🤣

  • @InterstateKyle
    @InterstateKyle 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    The Bristlecone Pine forest is also worth checking out! They are the oldest known trees in the world! California has the tallest (Redwoods), largest (Sequoias), and oldest (Bristlecone Pines) in the world!
