I adjusted the 4mm and 12mm to the middle as you suggested, and the results were impressive. Thankfully I didn’t even need to mess with the other two adjusters, as it was probably pre-set well
just make sure its tight enough that the spring does not move. you shouldn't need to add preload at all. you should be able to loosen it with your hands

We’ve always just tightened it down enough so the spring doesn’t move. just hand tight
