  • In April 2014 Merissa was struggling with Leukemia and needed a bone marrow donor to survive. Daniela, who had registered with DKMS in Germany, was a perfect match for Merissa.
Two years later, in the spring of 2016, Merissa and Daniela met for the first time. Daniela flew transatlantic from Germany to Merissa's hometown of Duluth Minnesota, where they met for the first time at the airport. Merissa tells Daniela, "You're always a part of me. I think of you everyday."
    DKMS: We Delete Blood Cancer.

Typing through tears. What a gift she gave. I donate plasma because my sister was saved from plasma donations and I wanted to restock what saved her life. Giving is easy. And SO rewarding. God bless them both.

I served 20 years in the Air Force and my first active duty station was Hahn A.B. Germany 85-87. I dont tell people I was stationed in Germany, I tell them I lived in Germany. I am German on my fathers side and wanted to be a part of that hertige. I can say with all hinesty that next to the Japanese culture I love the German people and culture. I immersed myself in that German culture. They are a very giving and humble people. I'd go there again in a heartbeat.

Likewise, born in Colorado, when people ask "where I'm from" I tell them "I grew up in Germany thanks to the cold war and a military family. And I loved every minute of it."

Same story just happened to federal cabinet minister in Canada, Dominic Leblanc. Donner is also German.

I hope someone didn’t try to interrupt the supply chain over it. But I am glad lives are being saved.

Sent my swab into Be the Match last month. I hope I have the opportunity to help someone some day. This is what humanity is all about. 😀

Its great to see. There are so many donors on there. My donation for nine marrow was accepted. I do have the natural coronavirus immunity. There are others on there that can be saved from blood cancer.

Those stories are great to see I am a bone marrow donor myself. This is a life saving site for religious people too who would do anything hateful to donors recipients and formula supply if they could.

I would love to be a donor, but they say I'm too old. I'm 69 years young. I give blood to the Red Cross faithfully, so I don't see why I couldn't be a donor.

"As we age, the chances of a complication resulting from any medical procedure increases. People over age 60 are at a slightly increased risk of complications during and after donation. People over age 60 may not join the registry. Age guidelines are in place to protect the health of potential donors and to provide the best possible treatment for patients. The age limit is not meant to discriminate in any way."
