She prefaced the song with a story about a young boy named Ben whom she babysat, and how he was ill and they didnt know why. He died of a brain tumour at age eleven. When she launched into the opening notes of the song it was riveting. Her voice filled the small theatre and I dont think there was a dry eye in the house by the time she was finished.
That would have been amazing. I heard her sing it when she was 19 on CBC. The interviewer ( I think it was Sheila Rogers ) could hardly speak afterwards. She said something like " Sarah, I want to go have a good cry...". At any rate, the song has been woven into my life in different ways over the years. And so has her other music.

It was on my son's playlist when he left this earth unexpectedly at 22 years of age. It was running through my mind when we lowered him into the earth on a cold December day, eight years ago. I just recently listened to it for the first time and let me tell you this is one of the most hauntingly beautiful pieces I've ever heard. I keep listening to it over and over again. I have read some of the things she has written about her own music and the remarkable thing about Sarah ... and I think what touches us all ... is that you know she has felt pain and suffering in her life and survived it. Cancer is an ugly disease. I've seen it take away many people I care about. Along with guns and mass shootings...and other shootings that only lead to a mass. I should have been prepared. They are all tangled up in an emotion which is Blue. Her opening sounds opened up the flood gates. I like listening to Gregorian Chants when I need solace. This was a Gregorian Chant from the Angels.
