It was a promo video. I remember watching it at the dealership when I got my new KDX175 in 1981. Good bike and really quick in the bush trails. I still have the old Kawasaki race Jersey. Good times.
Thanks for posting - can't get enough of these old productions. Got a kick out of hearing the term "trick" used in its propoer reference!!! Also nice to see some real terrain and not manufactured X games supercross ridiculousness.
Saw this Video back in the day (1982) and the sound and quality was better then. Rode a 1982 Kawi 250. Broke the hub, frame, throttle housing, cylinder exhaust bridge and bolt holding the Unitrak together. Four DNF's due to mechanical failure.
Rode a KX 250 in the 70's. Won my share, hardly ever missed a podium. That was the best bike I ever raced. I rode everything from Suzuki RM's to the Husky 250CR but won more on that KX than all the others combined.
Fantastic video, brings back alot of memories - I was racing back in 82 - 83 and there was alot of 79/80 kwacka machinery around, it doesnt mention the endless kicking the bikes needed to get them running tho! And that guy obviously made a living doing voice overs for horror movies 'telephone killer' stylee in a later life! Great fun film and thanks koups for a great reminisce!
I hope you get that retro gear and bike. I rode Honda's in early 1980s, but, the bike I feel looked the meanest was the 1980 YZ250G. It intimidated me. Like many people I watched the 2010 Daytona SX. I greatly enjoyed it. The racing was fantastic. What I disliked was the gear. Nothing stood out. I also wish brands would keep to their colors, too. Your Dad's Maico no doubt made him smile. Maico's looked fantastic. I became a fan of them in 1980. Post some vids when you get your retro ride.
Kawasaki's UniTrak was very similar to FullFloater and both had too many moving parts but were both excellent. God the 80's were so great. Bikes were changing so fast. Now the 2010 big four are all so similar (sans Yam's backward engine), they even have near identical rear suspension linkage. And that linkage is really the same concept as what my 1986 KX125 had! Green rules.
sharks have a week dedicated to this narrator,,,,,,,,,he is,,,,,,,,,, the most interesting man in the world. he doesn't always drink beer,,,,,,but when he does,,,,,,he prefers dos equis.
Just one major gripe, all the bikes in this video are 1980 except the road race at start. 1980 was when the Unitrack came out with the KX A6 models. Rm had similar idea except it didnt work very well but had a better engine by 81.
Awsome, i'd like to hear the bikes a bit more though. Oh and a uni track back end! How did the competition ever stand a chance. No wonder my Dad bought me a kx80 1986 as a first bike.
I had a Kawa 175. I think it was. Good power for the size and year 1972. The thing rattled so much it sounded like you had a silverware drawer full in a metal bucket.
@coincutter yeah in 1981 Suzuki RM 125 was #1. I think they had it in 82 as well, I think Kawasaki came back to #1 in 84 and 85, I had an 85 KX 125 as my first big bike and that thing was a beast.
@CR250R40 haha.. im a newer school rider and i totally agree with you! my dad rode back in the day his first bike was a maico 440 at 13.. haha. i cant help but want to buy some old school gear and hop on an 80s model yz250 and just ROOST hahaha
1980 Daytona sx …8..warren Reid…19..Jeff ward..27..Larry wosick…rocket Rex won on yam.his only career sx win in America. Rex was fantastic and a crowd favorite.he could ride.he contested the ama national mx series from 1972 through 1990.he also won the mx Championship of South Africa.
Man the good old days as a teen my first bike was a 1980 KX80 my friends had RM80s YZ80s CR80s as a 13 year old i am proud to say i got to have kenny Roberts himself give me red and black leathers a kidney belt red and blue scott boots and he tuned my KX 80 in the summer of 1980 he showed me how to breathe when riding and to pay attention when racing i spent a lot of time at Malcolm Smith Enterprises in High Grove California i raced my KX80 for 4 years straight my dad being a hot rod gear head did head work on it and carb work other kids had a new dirt biki every year and they laughed at me for an out date kawasaki but when i out ran them i had the last laugh ill never forget what kenny Roberts taught me
Did you ever ride a new thumper? They are pretty good, although i would love to get a vintage bike and race some vintage races and see what being a real man is all about.
i love this cuz this, even though its before my time, its from a time when the biggest thing was rider ability not the most badass feature, 1981-"take this and this better with uni track" 2011-"have the fastest bike, even if u cant reach the pegs if its the fastest u will win" the stupid shit we hear these days
i had a kawasaki kd 100 and it sucked. i rode it around on the metal rim. then put a honda 50 swingarm and wheel on. could do 1 handed wheelys for blocks
suzukis full floater had soo many linkage bearings it always had slop and too much freeplay in the rear end.... good footage tho....seemed better then...its all getting a bit too serious nowdays
Warren Reid & Larry Wosick...........the perfect factory riders for Kawasaki in at this time as the good times generally past them by. There bikes were shit & so was most of their hired help (Jeff Ward & Gaylon Mosier excluded).
They reason why Suzuki stop making the Full Floater it cost the factory to much to make it. It is still consider one of the best suspension made. Just think the shock was being compress at the bottom and the top and the shock was basically floating in the frame.
That was great! I wanna go back to 1981!
That was great ! This was probably a promo that was played in Kawasaki dealerships

Got my 1975 Suzuki TS 125M running yesterday. I'm up early this morning looking at vintage motocross ads. I love my old bike. Love my Suzuki.
Thanks for posting - can't get enough of these old productions. Got a kick out of hearing the term "trick" used in its propoer reference!!! Also nice to see some real terrain and not manufactured X games supercross ridiculousness.
I remember going to the motorcycle shows and watching these videos. Thats when the bikes were advancing a lot in one year. Cool stuff

Has anyone seen Malcolm Smith? Where could he be... Great piece of video. Gawd, look at all that nice new factory equipment, and no padding...
Awesome video. Keep them coming!
i love this video watched it over and over again.

That has todo with the audio quality during transfer. These videos are old and this was the cleanest we could get the audio.

Best part: Penton stuffing that hair of his into a helmet. What technique! 🤣
GREAT! The narrator was actually a 6 foot, 300 pound bull frog! Heh heh...
really though, awesome video

bad ass video
I think the whole thing is running at about 90% speed, hence the very slow voice. Sped up 10% the video would be great.
cool! 5*
0:49 -first nac nac? :P

i never knew Barry White rode a Kawasaki, baby.
Anybody remember the "Team Green Gazette"?
Kawa , great bikes,
I stil in love with honda sorry. then yamaha and suzuki.
Kawazaki is been only for north america, and europe, no latin america
@zx6arrrgh LMAO!! Funny, I would tend to lean that the guy was thinking about letting go because he didnt know what to do..
racer x brought me here
To the poster of this video, it isnt late 70's. It is 1981.
Its 1980 first year of Unitrak.
lol I heard "Kawasaki...builds motocross machines...for women" ;D
i had a kawasaki kd 100 and it sucked. i rode it around on the metal rim. then put a honda 50 swingarm and wheel on. could do 1 handed wheelys for blocks

Warren Reid & Larry Wosick...........the perfect factory riders for Kawasaki in at this time as the good times generally past them by. There bikes were shit & so was most of their hired help (Jeff Ward & Gaylon Mosier excluded).
Sounds to me like someone got dusted by a Kawi to me..LOl

Nah, I stole his helium :)
I think they call the commentator 4 balls
well if they put up with these ''shit boxes'' in 1981 , why cant people put up with them now???
AHRMA.ORG people. How it was is how it is. Vintage MX!!

These bikes were shit? Really? And the Hondas, Yamahas and everything else in the early 80's weren't? lol
kawi's sucked back then
worst suspension ever made. falling rake. every KX broke that year. that's why you don't see any today. great commercial.
