Just wanted to say thank you for the video. Because of it, I was able to make a mother day gift for my mom. It came out beautiful and she even cried a little, so thank you again!
I love how direct your tutorial is and that you mentioned that you will have fails because my first few were fails! But now I think I'm getting the hang of it, thank you!
I never saw anyone put the paint right into the resin. Cannot wait to try this thank you so much . Girl above is right your voice is perfect you explained it so well. Can’t wait to try it
I came to this video on your recommendation on your epoxy resin ocean coasters. I haven't watched this video before. I don't know why. The tutorial is perfect. Thanks for sharing.
This video was an awesome help for me… a total resin artist beginner!! Thank you so much for sharing your passion and knowledge. I can’t wait to try my first resin ocean art. ❤️
I been wanting to get back in resin. But budget is tight. I thought I was out of epoxy. Tonight while cleaning I found a whole gallon in shipping box unopened of MAS. Never used it. Then I see this video. It was meant for me to try MAS❤
Sorry your list of dies and materials don't show up on your link. It says what you need and then doesn't display the items. Spcificaly what colors and brand of dyes are you using and will they work with other epoxies other that MAS? Thanks. Loved the results you got.
I think you should do wall art and add sand and shells perhaps a long couch length one. I’m gonna try it! I love the ocean, sand and seashells. Love from West Palm Beach Florida.
hank you so much for the detailed tutorial! One question, my white tinted resin is really thin and spreads a lot the minute I lay it down. I added 3 drops of tint into 3 or so ounces of resin. I'm using Mixol Universal Tints Oxide White #25 and MAS Table Top resin and hardener. Any ideas on why it's so thin?
Hi! Can you please share tips about masking the board off with tape? How long can the tape stay on before the resin is too hard to remove it? Do you have to sand down the edge of the resin after removing the tape?
Absolutely gorgeous! Thank you for the video. Great explaining! I am going to "practice" on my old cutting boards and snack trays before attempting on my old coffee, end, and sofa tables. Wish me luck!
Just ordered the Mixol white pigment. See a lot of good reviews for its lacing and cells. Your work is beautiful! Thanks for the video and tips. I want to make a shadow box from the beach trip my sons took me on for my 70th. birthday and want to make a beach/wave background for it. Hope I can get these waves down. Even if it looks half as good as yours I'll be happy. Lol!
The boards that I've seen, the epoxy is raised on the board. Would it not be ideal to sand the area where you want to pour your epoxy and make that section a bit lower than the part that will remain wood? That way your epoxy will be level with the wood and no ridge. Just a thought.
Thank you so much for all the information and direction in your video. Can I ask if you apply the white as soon as the colours and clear bead have been laid or do you wait for white resin to starts to warm a bit.
thanks so much for sharing your skill. I am working up the nerve and supply list to progress. Your inspiration will certainly help. Have you used the mixol pigments for all your colours used on the serving tray?
@@diyhuntress Yes...I have read and researched the products on the links you provided...I was just wondering why the different brands and if you could enlighten me if there is a difference between the blue pigments you use and the mixol blue pigments. Just seems easier to order from one site.....Thanks again.
I have tried everything . Same brand resin and same brand white, but could not get the cells? What are the time durations after putting each layer and after using the heat gun to blow the waves
Thank you so much for this video, super helpful! I'm just getting into trying these and honestly, I so appreciate how your video was straight to the point without a lot of other stuff! You did a fabulous job! One question, I saw how you squirted paint or tint into the cups...is there any issues with adding too much color and affecting how the resin sets up? Thanks again, do more of these!
Glad this was helpful! Not too many issues with too much paint... just have to make sure it's mixed well and that the ratio of resin still allows it to cure properly.
Love your stuff! I tried this today and at first it looked great but all of the colour and resin seem to run off the edges even though I made sure it was level. Any thoughts on why? I sanded it to 600 first...was that my mistake? Was the wood too smooth? Please help. What I was left with is very pale and washed out.
Hi! You may need to pour thicker layers and add more color to each layer. I’d also recommend sanding to maybe 120/220 max before adding the resin so it has a lot to grab onto. Another thing to be mindful of is where the resin is traveling to once it poured. You may have to play around with an unlevel piece if too much is falling off the edge. Hope this helps!
Great tutorial. Thank you for posting! One question - why is it that you only use the light blue acrylic paint and you use the liquids for the other two colors?
So, technically all of the paints are used are acrylics… I just couldn’t find a fluid acrylic in the light blue color that I liked, so I got a regular acrylic paint instead. 😊
DIY Huntress gotcha. So if I opted for doing all three blues with the regular acrylic instead of the the liquid one, would the end result still look as good as what you did in this video?
Hey, I’ve also done heaps of these myself and would like to know how you get the beautiful lacing, I think I’m putting too much resin/whit on and it tends to blow off the board, hardly any facing though 🤔 great work. I love making them too - I’m doing a batch of 14” x 5” pine surfboards at the moment ...
Hi! I try to stay conservative with the amount of actual white epoxy I place on the board. You can always add more, but you can’t take it away. I also feel like pigment makes a big difference too. Those surfboards sound awesome!
Love the lacing in your white waves. Tried to get the white that you recommended and it says not available. Can you recommend another white that will do the same thing? Should it be pastes or alcohol ink or acrylics? So confused. Haha And do you use mica powders or only inks?
Love it and looking to add this to the craft workshop arsenal. Did you sand the top of the serving board as well including the resin, or just the bottom? Keep up the great work!
How come when I follow the steps in your video to create resin waves it will not cell or lace? I noticed this with other resin videos I follow the steps and cannot reproduce the same results. I think steps are being left out like the mixing recipe, how long the resin sits before blowing, and the type of white pigment with any additives.
In the end you said you wet the board and sanded the entire board but only showed you sanded the back... did you also sand down the side with the Resin and did you sand down the coloring as well?
I was wondering. I did this and it turned out great but after it was cured you can see where micro bubbles were despite me torching. Would you sand and pour a clear coat over it???
Thank you! It happens sometimes... they can sneak in during the cure. If you sand, it could cause little pockets. So, if you sand, you may want to add another layer of waves to help hide it.

love this video. seems to be the most helpful for me. What type of wood is the scrap piece you used?
Thank you! I want to say ash or maple?

Beautiful! Ive been wanting to try this, can you tell me the wood options to use for a cutting board? Thanks
Yess! Hardwoods with small pores are best. Walnut, maple, olive wood, and padauk are all great choices!
Thanks
@@diyhuntress Do you think I can use pine wood or MDF for serving trays?
Beautifully done.❤
Pro-tip….You should also use scrap pieces of wood in between clamp and your wood piece wood shop 101😉
So you have to add a second layer?? I’m totally new to all of this!
Well, your motivation speaking...works! Thank you very much!

Do you add the walrus wax afterwards? Or is it just the cutting board oil?
Did you gently sand the epoxied ocean portion of the board after it cured as well to make it smooth and even with the board?
One question. Do you ever paint board with base colors before epoxy
Very cool look. Makes me wish I was somewhere warm. Can't wait to see the big project. Keep up the good work.
Can’t wait to share! Thank you!

This is beautiful!! Do you have to use white pigment or can you use acrylic paint?
On 1st layer, do you let it rest for 15minutes than only pour white resin and blow it ? Or you just pour it all together and blow it ?

I'm going to try this over the weekend
Yess! Would love to see!
I have deep pour epoxy on hand, would this work or do I need table top epoxy?
Gorgeous!! 💖
How do you prevent bubbles coming up from the unsealed wood?
Ahh! Okay, I tackle this in my resin River Table video! You have to seal the wood before you pour. I think that video will help!
So beautiful and u explain so well !
Looks so effective. Bloody brilliant 😎👌❤️
Thanks for the love!
Great tutorial, I just subscribed and cant wait to see some of your other videos.

Super helpful, dying for the weather to warm up so I can get at this in the garage. With little kids, I can't pour inside.

Beautiful serving board.
Thank you!
I think you should flatten the entire board using a router or sander, because the resin layer overlaps the wood and creates a relief on the surface.
Great work! Absolutely love the ocean pours
Thank you! Same - so hooked!
Do you need a heat gun for the lacing or can you use a hair dryer

That's really nice. I like the effect of the different colors blended. What is the final thickness of the resin?
Thank you! It’s actually not that thick. It leaves a minor raise on the board.
Did you sand the ocean part or did you just sand the wood part?

@@diyhuntress me too and thanx love ya projects
Hi! If we were to use a store bought serving tray, do we need to add a final layer of something to seal everything and make it food safe? Thanks!
Hi! Most boards already come finished, so you should be okay. Just let the resin cure according to the bottle. 😊
❤️❤️❤️do you pour resin after mixing colours or let it sit before creating waves and blowing?
I mix the colors before pouring and I don’t wait too long before blowing it around!
Board looks great
Thank you!
WHem you make these do you sand the resin as well or just the wood? or do you leave the resin as is raised off the board?
I leave it alone! The raise is so super slight.
I know I am late to the party. Thanks for sharing this video.

Great job...looks incredible
Simple but stunning.
Thank you!
Do you just mix the white with resin or do you also mix with alchohol inks? Also have you used any other whites that worked as well as the mixol?
Just white pigment with the resin. I’ve only used alcohol inks in my coaster project. Mixol is the best so far!

I add the food safe finish as the last step.
In the end you said you wet the board and sanded the entire board but only showed you sanded the back... did you also sand down the side with the Resin and did you sand down the coloring as well?
Hi! I wet and then finish sanded every part of exposed wood. Didn’t need to sand the resin. Hope this helps!
Hi there would it be ok to use acrylic paint with this same technique ? Thanks :)
Hi! I’ve actually never tried with acrylic paint before. I’m sorry!
what are the Brand colors you used in this Video..? tykate love it..
Have a list of materials and links in the website post. Link in video description!
Question, my darkest color came out quite transparent. Do you put a drop a white to make it more opaque or do I need to put more pigment?
Also my middle color was almost the same color as my dark. What colors do you mix for your middle color?
I add a good amount of pigment to each of my cups! You can add a drop or two of black to your blue to make it darker. 😊
Are you letting the blue cure before adding white?
No - it all has to be wet to work well. 😊
I was wondering. I did this and it turned out great but after it was cured you can see where micro bubbles were despite me torching. Would you sand and pour a clear coat over it???
Btw excellent tutorial and I loved it!

Nice video, I plan to make one.👍🏻
That would be awesome! Please share if you do!
I love it and can't wait to try it! Do you also run the finish over the epoxy or just the bare wood area?
Thank you! Just the wood! The finish doesn’t stick to the resin.
hi. thank you so much for the education for making waves with resin. I have some question for you, hopefully you can aswer my questions.
1. everytime I make wave with resin, it never look like what you did there. why its happening?
2. why the wave is gone when I turn to make it wider? its gone and doesnt look like wave😭
last one,
3. is it safe if your board have a contact with food? because I want to make it for flat plate.
thank you so much for your answer. greeting from Indonesia🙏🏼
3.
A lot of this just takes practice and the right pigments/epoxy. You'll get there, promise! Epoxy is safe to put food on once it is fully cures.
What kind of wood was this that you used ?
Hi! Could you clarify if those were acrylic paint or acrylic ink? Thanks!
They’re fluid acrylics. Have a materials list with direct links to the ones I used on my website. 😊
I have a question. If i want to make a tray thats just for decoration and want to polyurethane the wood can it be done with the resin on
Yes - you have to poly after the resin has already been applied.
@@diyhuntress thank you.
