Puihkkk...we won actually back in 2004 under LTC LAM SHIU TONG, RSM 1WO Punniya..10th mono 3 SIR...empire bloody kelong...obviously its gonna b shock if members of public gonna see the Green berets be the GOH at the NDP...

As im concern the best and well train in combat and infantry of SAF is 1 SIR and 2 SIR who involve in confrontatoon period..most of them are the instructors for the 1st intake of National Service 1967..experience in jungle warfare and face the pki guerillas in kota tinggi..
And the most fearless unit ADF.

@DL2R hmmm at least these so called wayang hendon girls are better than in u in terms of education, physical fitness, morals and values. Bear in mind, kopasus is voluntary, we have national service for 2-2.5 years, if we get to go commando means we made the cut for basic entry requirements. Special Forces like the army SOF is a smaller unit within commandos itself. If u wanna compare, compare kopasus with SOF. Don't compare 18-20 year old boys who just ended their education and went on to an elite unit with basic knowledge of special training and unconventional warfare. They only serve for 2.5 years max,after that they are called reservists. They only go for revision training for 2 weeks in 10 cycles. Your kopasus service is up to the soldiers themselves if they wanna retire or not. SOF is made out of regulars who chose the army as their career

@@ryangoh420 Before going to NS, there should be a standard medical check, you may voice your opinion there (not sure if that helps). How it works around 2007 (things may or may not have changed) --> Some people will get a letter ("invitation") from Army to go for an "interview" at a certain camp, "standard" checks will be done there like fitness, etc. At that camp, you can let the instructors know you are keen to join and if you clear everything (fitness/medical/IQ/etc), you will get another letter sometime later to inform you where you will be posted (to start your BMT).
You will be allowed to go through a few months of military before signing on (to make sure you know what you sign up for), it will be told to you near the start so don't have to rush to sign on. A time frame will be given before the "final" decision to sign on (you can still sign after that, just don't get extra cash bonus, but also less contract restricted, find out more when you are serving).
Even if you don't get in as a NSF (National Service Full time) but decided to sign on, you can still inform your superior and get the chance to go for Commando selection course.
If and when you get to go to any camps or "Army buildings", look out for those red berets, go up to them, be polite and ask them for more information (I'm sure they will be happy to chat if time permits).

@DL2R Lt. Adnan was from regimen melayu from malaysia. During WW2, Singapore was defended by Malaysia and British forces. The only singapore "unit" in WW2 is the volunteer corps.

malays/muslims are not allowed to be in the commandos, armour, artillery, intelligence etc due to sensitivity or security reasons. it's the hard truth and has been that way for past 30-40 yrs.if there are malays, it's a few only and will be published in newspapers. try to work your way to the Guards, they are elites too, and malays are accepted there

Like education, we need A levels certificate or Poly diploma just to enter. Once finish basic training and earn the beret, u can continue study for degree and be an officer. But if u are talking about SOF, which is a Special Forces unit within commandos, yes muslims can't join due to political reasons. Yeah i'm sad about that too. But being in commandos itself is an honour as they take only an extremely small percentage of the entire year of consripts since Commandos is an elite airborne infantry unit..

@@dlegit3024 pls lahh stop it with the race or religion card. Its just that commandos have basic requirements that we don't need, like A levels or Poly Certificate. Even tho poly certs have alot of malay, how many of them are men who are physically fit and pass background checks + health checks? Commandos if u have history of severe broken hand u cannot even join if u meet all other requirements
@@dlegit3024 muslims only cannot join intelligence and SOF + NDU . But from what i heard from malay commandos is that we can go Special forces qualification course but won't be posted to a special forces unit and will be sent back to our company in commandos. Intelligence work closely with SOF and if u know the existence of Singapore's intelligence agencies.
When SAF Regular commandos are attached to US soldiers in the frontline in Afghanistan fighting the talibans and come back alive then you are brave and respected ........if not you are looked down by Singaporeans ..... draw high salary and enjoy peaceful life in Singapore.......better resign and work in the private sector as security guards .

Commando have Muslim, all races. During my time, my company got 6 Muslim and 5 Indian.

Religion is not a criteria in the selection process. Same for fighter pilots.
Muslims can join commandos and even attempt special forces qualification course but u won't be posted to the Special Forces Unit as u know politics and there's still some mistrust with us muslims. I have met a malay captain from commandos also a muslim and is a degree holder. Why there is not alot of malays is because we don't pass the basic entry requirements of commandos. Poly diploma or A level cert minimum, must be PES A, no history of severe health issues and pass background checks
Have Malay/Muslims in the unit. Criteria as per other gents; fitness, health checkup, assessment etc.

Neighbouring countries commandos are regular soldiers.. lowly paid but tough as nails, swore allegiance & fight for their motherland.
