    I had been speculating along the lines of the twelve being ancient amaurotines as well, but I'm actually leaning more towards the twelve being amaurotines that joined the 14th councilor in summoning Hydaelyn. I have no particular basis other than we know the twelve supposedly left the land to the spoken races by choice, but I also like the idea that which of the twelve we are incarnations of is whichever patron we chose at character creation.

      The Theory basically goes like this - There are 13 in the Ascian council before the sundering, 12 of these 13 went on through folklore and legend to become the twelve, worshiped as gods...the 13th? Well they were the one that summoned Hydlylyn but Largely forgotten over time...but very much alive to this day. The WoL IS the 13th. It makes sense that we are her champion, if when we were an ascian before the sundering, we were the one that summoned her. Atleast, that's how the theory goes.

      @@Vennnaya The defector is the 14th, though, not the 13th. The 13 were the ones who summoned Zodiark. Regardless, "the Twelve" are actually 13. One of them, Nald'thal, is actually an amalgamation of two twin entities, Nald and Thal. So there are actually 13 distinct entities worshipped as the Twelve, just as there were 13 Convocation members following the defection of Hydaelyn's eventual summoner. And just as there were 13 reflections of the Source created by the sundering. Seems unlikely to be a complete coincidence.

    • @i.147
      @i.147 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Another theory : The Convocation of 13th bear the names of Olympian gods :
      Emet-Selch : Hades, Lahabrea : Poseidon, Elidibus : Zeus, Igeyorhm : Artemis, Nabriales : Ares, Halmarut : Demeter, Loghrif : Apollo.
      The Twelve were actually the ones who summoned Hydaelyn, hence why they are remembered as benevolent by the population of Eorzea believing in Hydaelyn (Zordiark and his followers were forgotten or are considered as bad). The Wol was a part of Olympus (the Convocation) but "stole" knowledge from it (their summoning plan) and summoned Hydaelyn with their 12 followers. So we're Prometheus ? The one who "created" humanity, once allied with the Olympian gods but later punished by them. A martyr for ones, a traitor for others.
      Nald'Thal case seems more like a dual aspected divinity than two distinct gods tbh. But Hades is related to the Gemini sign which cannot be a coincidence.
      Hades does say "your twelve" so i doubt the Convocation are the twelve. He's disdainful towards them, so maybe they were the ennemies of the Convocation.

In my opinion, I believe that the descendants of the 13th Amarotine descentor, are in fact Sharlayan. Why else would they need to commune to Hydaelyn through the use of the Antitower.

    Not only did the Amaurotines / make mythological creatures and real world gods, / but also 90's childhood memes.
    Thanks for the lore tour Ethys! Though as to the Convocation in relation to the twelve -- I feel there may indeed be a correlation since people through the ages might've remembered their old leaders past the reckoning, at least in number.
    As for Sharlayan -- I can just see it as a product of survivors knowledge from the 5th Astral era, but that also begs the question of where those people came to know about it; unless the Ascians have had something to do with it during the early years of the nation, which is also a big possibility.
    None the less, super excited for the following patches and dungeons! Hope they'll give us more Amaurot dungeons.

    i dont comment much on anything, but a few days ago i had the same exact theory with my fc for both the 12 being amaroutine and that Sharlyan nation is probably the nearest thing to present day Amaurot. The other thing that was also brought up was with the Circle of knowing and how they happen to know how to seal primals, and as well around Eorzea you have easily accessed stones for each of the 12 which people can offer prayer to.

    The first parallel that came to mind for me between the Ancients' Convocation and the Sharlayan Council is their policy of non-interference.
    The Convocation did not want to stop a volcano that was going to destroy an island, simply intending to record the event (though they did evacuate the people ahead of time), and the Council refuses to get involved in any of the conflicts in Eorzea even though doing so would be for their own benefit as well as the benefit of others, and their general modus operandi is observing and recording history instead of participating in it.

    Any thoughts about the importance of Quetzalcoatl being titled a Guardian Force rather than an Eikon?
    Since finding out Hydaelyn is a primal, we've been left wondering what makes her different from the primals we've spent our entire journey slaying. We know that Zodiark was summoned by sacrificing the aether of others while the convocation remained, like most primals, the summoner remains to direct its summon. Hydaelyn however was summoned through self-sacrifice, out of desperation to protect others, much like Quetzalcoatl.
    Could Hydaelyn in fact be a Guardian Force and not a "Primal"? A distinction not worth making as far as Ascians are concerned maybe, but perhaps has a great effect on the nature of the summon.

    • @elecrom_9757
      @elecrom_9757 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hydaelyn is most similar to Ramuh in the aspect that she doesn't want to influence people to much, but she has far more control than him how her tempering (which is the Echo) effects people. So far she is the only primal that does not fully temper and lets her chosen keep their free will without reducing them to mindless worshippers (the fervent devotion the Ascians have towards Zodiark makes me think he tempered them more 'traditionally')

    • @knuxson
      @knuxson 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Summons were called Guardian Forces in FFVIII (where Quetzalcoatl debuted in the series). I personally don't read more into it than that it is a nod to FFVIII.

    • @jaypro6269
      @jaypro6269 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's probably a dual meaning. It's obviously a reference to FFVIII where the summons were called Guardian Forces, but also they are meant to be a "guardian force" at that moment. They aren't or weren't a belief that was summoned, they were a creature created to safeguard the creatures of the Anyder. The main difference being a form of worship of the being in question.

    • @mellee6515
      @mellee6515 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I dont think Hydealen can be a gardian force. Simply because of the echo. Gardian Forces in exchange for power take your memories away. The echo helps you view the past or others. What I am curious to know is.. emit is declared himself as Hades... I feel its referencing the summons in Final Fantasies past if that's so who was Lahabrea? And who is Elidibus? And because Lahabrea hopped from host to host so much did he actually in a way loose his form? And Elidibus too... he tends to jump a lot as well. So I just wonder why is Emit saying he's Hades matter and does it affect the other two.. questions... uhhgg..

    It seems rather likely that the WoL possesses the 13th Ascian soul, right? What Ardbert and the player does to quell the light aether was essentially a rejoining. This, I believe, was the entire point of Hydaelyn’s refusal to allow Ardbert’s splinter to pass into the lifestream as the rest of his party was allowed. Hydaelyn wanted Ardbert to rejoin with the WoL, strengthening them. Should the WoL ever rejoin all the various splinters of the original soul, it seems that they would be as powerful, if not more so, than all the other Ascians. Assuming that the Sundering shattered the soul in the same way as the stars, this may be up to 11 other shards left. Assuming, of course, that none were lost or destroyed.
    In my mind, the game is leading to a battle between Hydaelyn and Zodiark in which they are evenly matched, the victor decided by the remaining Ascian souls. For the WoL to be any use in this battle, they must be alive (obviously) and possessing their original power.
    As time goes on, however, the Rejoining seems less like a homicidal plan and more like a restoration. Would it be better for the people in the Source and shards to be whole? The answer isn’t as clear as it used to be.

    On the Sharlayan angle, it's not outside the realm of possibility that the seat of the Ascians in the Source was intended to be Sharlayan or the Sharlayan homeland. Design elements similar to Amaurot, incredible knowledge, similar attitude to the world and neighbouring nations, and some pretty intense magical artefacts and buildings. Especially pointing to the Antitower, which seems rather... extreme to have just been made by a bunch of scholars on a whim for no other reason than because they can.
    On the Twelve angle, I think it's possible that they are an Ascian creation as well. The iconography of the Twelve has likely changed but they could have been introduced in an attempt to instil the possibility of a primal of each. As time marched on it changed and developed, a Mhachi sorcerer being mistaken for a deity as he leads other to safety, two separate gods being re-imagined as a conflagration, a wise emperor being lauded as a god of time. It's also fun to think this because it makes it ironic given exactly how belief in the Twelve has been used to the opposite efffect.

    Not really on topic, but there's been a question bugging me for a while now, ever since I finished the Twinning actually. I find myself wondering- Why did the Ascians plan fail? Something seems to have gone wrong. The Garlond Ironworks broke into the Crystal Tower two HUNDRED years after the Eighth Umbral (Astral actually?) Calamity.
    But why were they alive at all?
    I thought the plan was, once the First rejoined, that there should be sufficient energy for Zodiark to revive. This was supposed to be the final Rejoining. After which the Ascians would sacrifice the remaining life on the Source to Zodiark. But that didn't happen. Nothing happened. Zodiark does not seem to have revived, even after two hundred years. Nobody was sacrificed- in fact the world was basically circling the drain and the Source might have died off even without Ascian action. And more significantly- despite the fact that Emet Selch should have still been alive in that alternative future, he never once checked in to see what the Ironworks was doing camped in front of the Tower all that time. The last remaining group even loosely affiliated with the Scions undid what should have been the Ascians final victory, right under their noses, and the Ascians were just sitting on their hands apparently.

      first ands formost, they broke into the tower DURING the futuristic 8th calamity after we had died during the fighting. Black rose was released and triggered it. through the use if info on omega and alexander they built a combo machine that could travel space/time to land on the first. The tower landed 100 years during the calamity of light so he waited and built safe heavens while minfilia stopped it best she could.
      after which through trial and error we finally get sent to the first to stop the calamity, while new scion recruit estinien stops the black rose. while we stop the calamity of light.
      We then beat hades. on the first, only elidibus is left we killed off most the asciens. We only just figured out what the point of the rejoining is, and what lead to the sundering.
      where we did'n't at first. they still have plans to rejoin all of the shards, they need to fix the 13th shard as well.
      for a rejoining there needs to be 2 calamity happening at the same time, one of the source, and one of the shards. It can take a lot to build up to a calamity, as too much and what happens on the 13th will happen.

      @@elecrom_9757 Right. Cid did a lot of the brainstorming. He built, or at least made the designs for, the Tycoon, and made the overall plan to rescue the WoL while he was still alive. But it took a long, long time for them to break into the tower without someone with the Eye of Allag.
      Enough time for seventeen presidents of the Garlond Ironworks to come and go. They even polled the survivors about whether they should go through with it- change the past. Which, mind you, would mean some or all of those people would ever even be born. But the world was so close to the end they went with it anyway.
      But somehow, even with the overall plan being spread around and people being asked about it, the Ascians still didn't catch on. Given how quick Emet Selch was to grab on to the idea of using the Tower for his own purposes, it seems doubtful the Ascians would have stood by and let a time machine just slip through their fingers.
      I can only guess that, after the Eighth Calamity, all the Ascians were dead. Maybe even they fell victim to Black Rose.

    So, while he isn't a trial, this means potentially that Quetzacoatl is a primal yes? Since the researcher gave up his form and aether for the concept I mean... Also, how was a thunder serpent gonna stop the madness lol.

    How can the 12 be the other members of the 14 when we know that Elidibus, Lahabrea, and Emet-Selch were members? Since they aren't one of the 12, that takes us down to only 10. One of each of them and then take out the WoL who was the 14th.

    Oh man, it just hit me. Even the name, Amaurot, is now cruel and twisted. As you point out, the term "Utopia" (where Amaurot is located) was used to refer to an unlikely, impossible place only existing in theoretical discussions (often used as a device to criticize and satirize or possibly to raise other points about societal issues) that nobody really entertained any thoughts of actually existing.
    What was once an actual place in the history of FFXIV is now a theoretical utopia, an unfeasible "not-place" nobody (aside from the Ascians) would believe possible. The Amaurot that now exists on the first is a literal figment of imagination and nostalgia even if it is, for the moment, something more concrete.

      Max Hykova thanks! I haven’t been able to get online in a few weeks now so I forgot what that lance looked like but then color threw me off. Makes sense that is the augmented version.
      Thanks again
