Ms. Leah, this is terrific! Short, concise, and speaks to the true passion of exploring literature, as opposed to "finding the right analysis." Thank you for sharing this!
I wish you'd continued down this area of explanation with more videos. The visual demonstration helps me so much more than reading long drawn out texts about it. More videos on the specific areas of criticism would be great.
Hi Lisa! Thanks for your interest. This was a video to help my students during remote learning, and the rest of the conduct was conducted via live-over-Zoom lectures, so there aren't other videos. Perhaps I'll make future ones at some point, since there's been a lot of interest in this video in the intervening years.
Excellent introduction to literary theory for my 12 year olds class, thank you! Do you do any more on the other aspects (such as any theories in particular with examples?)
"The author is dead..." Over time, this is the lens that people use to look at texts. Previously, people asked, "What did the author mean?" Now, we apply a post-modern lens. The post-modern ideology here would explain that a reader can pick up their own meaning that is just as valid as the writer's purpose. As Ms. Leah says, "It's less about being right and more about being curious."
"Focus less on being right, and more on being curious."
I like that.

I was practically sleeping with this topic when reading my class notes, but the way you explained it provoked me curiosity. Thank you.

@@darthplath Definitely. I'll be finished with my class by then, but I'm sure future students would appreciate that. Thanks for this one though.
