It takes approx 1 minute to use a different wake up name for a device if this is a problem for you. I had to do this anyway because my Alexa Dots were constantly answering questions from the next room even when I was standing next to the one in this room.
I bought one and really like it. I like that the speaker faces forward. It responds to voices quickly and I like where the yellow light notifications are located. Just seems like a nice design. Also the colors are nice. I never use any of the buttons on top so I don’t care that it only has 3 buttons. The speaker is also nice and clear.
I miss the Ech Dot 3th gen. They fitted in nicely everywhere, they were small and easy to mount without being that very noticeable and they had quite some decent sound already. When you needed or wanted you could plug them into you home cinema set for better sound. Those balls were the worst design... Verry ugly to have all those balls around your house and you actually could not nicely blend them in. Don't like the design of the spot that much either. But it's much better then the 4th/5th gen. And probably Amazon don't likes to sell their stuff... They only always sell the black versions in my country. And they don't allow to order the verry same speaker from other countries. They have kind of a strange marketing strategy there...
This is probably for people who want to enter the Amazon ecosystem through the cheapest means possible, are going to buy multiple Echo devices all at once, and could care less about sound quality. The savings are apparent if you buy it in bulk. Buying 5 at once automatically saves you $50 compared to 5 Echo Dots
This is my situation, this is my first Echo device it takes up less space on my nightstand. Pops for the bedrooms and bathrooms, a show for the kitchen.
Got an Echo Pop free when I bought a discounted Ring Plus doorbell camera during the Prime Day Sales. Already have two 2nd gen. hockey puck dots that work just fine. I rarely listen to music through the Dots - I crank up the hifi for that. The Pop should more than meet my needs & it was free. 😉😁
The Dot is already affordable, so I agree with the questions as to why the Pop exists.... it's a wee bit baffling. I've an old puck Dot and I would not "upgrade" to a Pop. As to the design... the Dot is a Dot.... the Pop is like an half lemon you're about to squeeze.
I like that, a half squeeze lemon. It is baffling. If it had a clock on it, like another viewer mentioned, it would make more sense. Thanks for watching.
The cheaper price / production cost for Amazon enables them to offer these for free when you buy other Amazon products (I got one free with a cheap fire tv). This exposes new customers to the Alexa group of products. Maybe they see it as a way to get new customers?? Just a guess.
Craig, could you do an updated lighting video? I have the older nano leaf bulbs and like them, but haven’t read great reviews on the newer version. Any others that you might recommend, especially for an Apple user?
Although it has less bass, it seems to sound less muffled and more clean than the dot but it can be just my impression but losing the sound and temperature sensors...
I think if you press both vol up and vol down it will act like the action button. I don't own one but saw someone mention it elsewhere. Maybe give it a try and see how it goes.
I bought an echo pop and if I don't give me credit card info I can't use it. All I wanted to do is listen to local radio or as an alarm clock. SO WHY DO I NEED TO INPUT MY CREDIT INFO?
Because most people dont need temperature sensor and all that on a budget when you can buy devices that can link to the pop so it doesn't become so out of date later on.
Yeah it connects to anything bluetooth or anything registered w your Amazon account fire tvs n such, it can also still be used for calls as well n drop ins
I think that it would make a great “dot with a clock” bed side alarm clock. I use a Spot for that, and it works very well. A dot this shape with a clock that displayed the time, the alarm time, and the outdoor temp could be really useful.
@@joecole-632 I posted that 6 months ago! I now have a couple of them myself. At the time we had a dot with a clock that was just a clock. I think that when I posted this the whole temperature thing was new. But I can’t remember what I was thinking last week, much less 6 months ago!
I think Amazon hopes to encourage people to expand their smart home throughout the entire home. Not everyone uses Echo for music. I don't. I hate the sound quality. I use high quality headphones instead. By lowering the price, you're more likely to stick an Echo Pop just about everywhere for further smart home capabilities.
Does anybody really use the action button , mines don't respond sometimes and the Acton button still does nothing so I have to plug it out and plug it back in. I'm buying the dot and there is a buy two special so I'll take it
I do for those times I don’t want to say the wake at night. Or when I have multiple echos and I want a specific one to answer. But definitely not a necessity
Wondering if they were made for smaller rooms -- sometimes having that "fuller" sound in more smaller rooms causes it to sound more muffled than fuller.
I would lean towards the Dot and Show 5 for the fuller low end. That seems to really be the big difference. The dot sounds pretty nice now. Thanks for watching.
@@CraigsTechTalkover Labor Day weekend Best Buy was giving them away with a purchase of a TV lol when I picked mine up the entire wall was full with them! They couldn’t give them away fast enough 😂
Ya it's not impressive. I was going to return mine but then realized ide gotten it on a lightning deal and paid 8$.. so for even just a work shop bluetooth speaker it works fine.
I got it in a bundle basically free and still don't want it. I thought I could use it as a chime for my ring doorbell but it doesn't work. So o have ot away and ordered the chime.
That's funny. Just to confirm, you went into the Alexa app for the ring doorbell settings? In the app, under devices, you select cameras and choose the doorbell. Under the doorbell settings you should see Announcement Devices. There you would pick the echos to serve as a chime.
Probably made from trade in parts and were able to repackage it into a new product vs. a used one that makes them less money. This new device makes zero sense to me... I have no idea why they made it.
look i dont know what are you on about and stop being so harsh on the the pop and if you need to know the tempreature in your room by asking AI thats bad because you could just feel how hot or cold it is.
I like that you edited when you referred to "Alexa" to keep our echo devices from flipping out
Thank you. I appreciate you mentioning it and for watching.
@@CraigsTechTalkAgreed! 👍🏼 I have three echo dots & a fire stick. It was nice to listen to the review without setting them off. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

It's an echo spot without the screen. I loved the spot when they came out
The only time I use the action button is to reconnect if I lose my internet settings. Not having it is no big deal to me personally.

still got my echo dot 3rd gen, looks like i'll be keeping it lmao
I like the look. I bet it will look even nicer when the version with a clock comes out.
You are right, this is a great design to have a clock.
If it was gonna have a clock it would have launched with a clock version. It's never gonna have a clock.
@@frank234561 obviously, you're wrong. Echo Spot sure looks like it.

I appreciate what you are saying. It definitely adds up. For my own use, in most rooms the pop would. Thanks for sharing and watching.
The size is nice.
I hope you enjoy your new echo. Welcome to an Alexa smart home.
I've more or less stopped using my Amazon devices. Some have started talking randomly and/or responding when they shouldn't be capable

I can only get it to ring once on the echo dot. Does it only ring once in the echo dot, or can you modify it?

The pop was on sale for $19.99. I'm looking forward to trying it out. You get what you pay for, in this instance I'm thrilled! :)
It does seem to be a solution in search of a problem.
Thanks 👍🏼. Not sure why they made it.
Do you think a new echo show 10 will be released?
Craig, could you do an updated lighting video? I have the older nano leaf bulbs and like them, but haven’t read great reviews on the newer version. Any others that you might recommend, especially for an Apple user?
They did it because there is a bigger margin of benefit with the Pop!
Although it has less bass, it seems to sound less muffled and more clean than the dot but it can be just my impression but losing the sound and temperature sensors...
Got mine brand new for $14 the other day! Anyone know why the huge sale?? Super excited🎉
That is a great deal. Amazon loves to have these mystery sales. Enjoy your new Echo Pop.
My pop wont retain the equalizer settings. It feels going back to the middle setting. Any ideas?
The Echo Pop looks like half an Echo Dot 🗿
Can i connect this device with laptop to play music?
Thanks,
You can over Bluetooth. But I would not try to watch video and use it for audio. It may be out of sync.
I think if you press both vol up and vol down it will act like the action button. I don't own one but saw someone mention it elsewhere. Maybe give it a try and see how it goes.
I've had issues w that w getting it into connection mode
Amazon one step up and two steps back. Great review.
Thank you very much Anthony. You are right. It is odd, they have been losing so much money on devices and go make another device.
Can you connect this speaker to echo show 10?
You can get these on sale now for like $15. That’s a solid price for these for sure
That is a great price. Thanks for watching.
I bought an echo pop and if I don't give me credit card info I can't use it. All I wanted to do is listen to local radio or as an alarm clock. SO WHY DO I NEED TO INPUT MY CREDIT INFO?
Can you not connect them all to make surround sound! If not seems to be missing a trick.
No you cannot. These echos are so underpowered they can’t make that kind of processing happen. THAnks for watching.
Lol I still have my 1st gen dots. Lol. I go by the old saying if ain’t broke don’t fix it lol

Does it link to a dot for combining speakers?

I was confused too... For $10 difference get dot
I don’t get it. Thanks for watching.
If you push volume up and down at the same time it wakes the mic like the action button
That is great to know. Thank you Rachel for sharing this.

You can get it cheaper.
