  • The Amazon Echo Pop has just been released! Here's my review of the Echo Pop and also my comparison of it vs the Echo Dot. Those two are now just $10 different when it comes to pricing, so we need to talk about which one of these Alexa enabled smart speakers are going to fit your home.
Want to pick up the Echo Pop? Click here: geni.us/EchoPop (Amazon affiliate link)
The Echo Pop has a larger speaker when compared to the Echo Dot 5th generation, and so you're probably wondering why the Echo Pop is less expensive. The reason is because the Echo Dot still sounds like a more rounded speaker. You'll hear it in our audio comparison between the Echo Dot and the Echo Pop.

It's a voice assistant, you're suppose to use your voice. Most reviewers have complained about this but surely it's easier to use the wake word than getting up, walking across the room and pressing a button before talking to it anyway.....it's only one extra word!

Amazon really seems to be pushing the pop. I’ve looked at it a few times but recently when I purchased a new fire tv 4K, Amazon gave me one heck of a deal. They offered any color of Echo Pop for just $7 so I had to bite and I quite like it!

Good review of a product that nobody is going to get excited about, but actually quite capable for it's price. Combined with a single Eero router you've got Matter, wifi extender and also pairing with a Thread border router on the Eero. Seems to me could be a very good priced setup.
Although I personally don't know whether that means you could pair both Matter - WiFi devices and Matter - Thread all together......

The thing that I thought sounded the most interesting about this was the ero wifi repeater, bummer to find out about the low speeds, but I don't even have an ero mesh and still use a traditional Asus 5300ax but I am thinking about upgrading to a 6e router or mesh.

Thanks for preview. I think I'll stick with my 4th gen dot and echo 4th gen. I actually don't understand what household use case or problem this model solves given the narrow price difference with the Echo Dot. @@AutomateYourLife Well its just about the right size to come out of an elephants behind...
BTW have you noticed that tuya/smartlife seems to be imploding? There's suddenly a thousand slightly different versions of tuya/smartlife for each manufacturer to make slightly incompatible.. So to make my new Igenix ig9600wifi air purifier work properly (with all the data and info etc) I can't use Smartlife, I have to use IgenixLife - or I get a crippled version of the £140 device I bought because software (the device itself is an amazing gadget) .. Seems to be a trend at the moment.. Along with charging for stuff that was free, and all sorts of bugs and system issues. I think they're under new management..

@@AutomateYourLife Would you believe it took me over 6 hours trying to get a Tuya camera that'd work with Google on Amazon and eventually I went on Aliexpress and got one there - suddenly G.Home compatibility info has vanished from Amazon (at least in the UK), I wonder why 🙄. And there's also a flood of interior cameras that claim alexa/google compatible but basically aren't... That covers the two cameras I bought from Amazon then had to basically explain in words of one syllable why refusing a refund without a return when said faulty or fraudulent returns would be resold as good, and as I was in quarantine for chemo, that I'd explained before... Had me in tears by the end. I won't be buying anything smarthome from Amazon again..

What is the point of this? For the price, stupid design, and limited capabilities. I don’t get it!

Don't get me wrong I use Alexa everyday. But God damn it's so stupid. Any question you ask is a complete embarrassment 95% of the time. Why keep making products without making one work even partially well?

I know Amazon's working on making it better, but I don't know when or how that'll happen! For now, you just gotta evaluate it for what it is :)

No point of getting any new smart speaker unless they'll integrate some sort of AI, so we can finally stop using the unnatural phrases that Alexa requires and finally start to have a "conversation" with it

I have had Alexa for so long that I think my conversations with her feels as natural as when I meow at my cats 😂 - ot to mention when she drives me insane!!! AI will be both fascinating and scary!

@ "automate your life" Hey there! I wanted to talk about an issue with the new Nest Hub 7-inch second-generation touch screen system from Google. Personally, I believe in the added security of wiring devices with ethernet. Unfortunately, in their recent update, Google disabled a secret built-in feature on the device that allowed the USB service port to be used as an ethernet port for direct connection.
Direct connect is important to me, especially for speaker systems, because it enables easier synchronization without constantly relying on the Wi-Fi signal. Previously, the Nest Hub could hold an IP address like other speakers that support USB to ethernet. However, with this update, the device drops the signal every 45 minutes to an hour, making it less reliable and more bug-prone.
The main issue here is that Google disabled this feature, which only a small percentage of users knew about and utilized. It's disappointing that they removed such a useful feature, especially when many other Google speakers still support USB to ethernet. It would be great if you could shed light on this decision and the importance of having direct wired options, especially in scenarios like apartment buildings or large houses.
By the way, for those who didn't know, there is a micro USB port hidden under the rubber flap on the Nest Hub, and third-party adapters are available to connect an ethernet cable to it. It's just a shame that Google decided to remove this feature. Thank you for bringing attention to this bad decision by Google

I'm betting it's because of the move to Fuschia. It'll come back if Google has any dev want for that display anymore. If not...that tells you very much where the device is headed.
