- The freezing temperatures come as hundreds of asylum seekers are evicted from New York City shelters and wait for placement. CBS New York's Ali Bauman reports.

My folks trained at community colleges in the states in technical fields (accounting and software engineering) and they made it thru dedication and by saving money. Because of the Global Compact for Migration which was adopted by a majority (150+) UN member countries in 2018, they then advertised it to migrants and UN set up a migrant camp in Panama to help them on their journeys.
The advertisements by UN and UNICEF promote that migrants need access to services (shelter, education, etc..) and host countries should provide these.
Criticism to the GCM has come from Austria: “The Chancellor of Austria, Sebastian Kurz, stated that the compact would reduce Austria's sovereignty and mix up the difference between illegal and legal immigration as well as that between economic and humanitarian immigration. His vice chancellor, Heinz-Christian Strache, argued that the compact could potentially be interpreted as defining migration as a "human right", which he said "can and must not be the case."
Australia said something similar: “The Australian government has criticized the agreement, claiming that it does not distinguish between legal and illegal migrants, particularly when it comes to welfare. They have also claimed that the compact could impose obligations to support migrants even when they have returned to their country of origin. The Australian government believes that the compact would undermine their current migration policies.”
Additionally, Goal 17, which condemns discrimination against migrants, has been criticized due to measures for "shaping the perception of migration". Dutch MEP Marcel de Graaff raised issues with the proposal to defund news outlets espousing anti-migration rhetoric and stated that the pact could be used to criminalize political criticism.
Trump said no to signing agreement at at UN conference, BUT on Dec 17, 2021 the Biden administration released a statement endorsing the GCM.
Now here’s the interesting part:
- UN has said and written that even if a nation votes no on the agreement, they can change their mind later and implement GCM policies in their country to support it as well as receive funds from GCM trust.
- Even though GCM is not legally binding by UN, purposely done so that more countries would adopt it, it is being used to persuade judges in immigration courts all around the world which is paving precedence for future cases. There are examples of this happening in Canada.
I saw a man in Ireland, they are experiencing the same with migrants and their government, who confronted a migrant. He asked why he was there. The guy told him he needed treatment for a mental health issue. He then asked him why he thought he should have to pay for his healthcare when he couldn't get it himself. The migrant said,"I'm refugee".
I personally find this migrant crisis very sad, and disturbing. Quite frankly, I am even little bit scared for our nation. New Yorkers must open their homes and take migrant families in asap.
The last thing nyc needs are more homeless on the street. This is unreal.

I walked multiple miles each way 5 days a week for years to get to school, as many NYC kids did. When it was exceptionally cold and snowy, my parents just told me to put on an extra layer or two and tough it out. If i could do that in middle school, surely these grown men can too.

...Evicted from shelters so American citizens didn't freeze. The shelters are still packed to capacity, just that New York stopped giving highest priority to illegal immigrants. What is causing this is a reckless policy of allowing unlimited numbers of people to enter the US, gain preference over citizens for monetary aid and resources and letting our homeless problems go ridiculously under addressed. It seriously irritates me to listen to that woman complain about sleeping on the floor and cold food. I remember many years ago the local police station where I lived kicked a homeless American out of the police station for the night and didn't allow him to sleep there even though the station was open 24 hours and the temperatures were going to be below zero that night. One of the police employees found him dead the next morning nearby. He froze to death overnight. This woman should be thankful she is getting treated better than our own.

Problem is judges appointments for newer asylum seekers are at this moment around 2035 . Most won’t never go to their appointments .As they know their cases are bogus .

I would say about 95 percent of them don’t qualify for asylum. I’ve helped someone through that process and the requirements are not easy to meet. You pretty much have to prove your life is in danger because of your religion, identity preference etc.

I think the reason why so many come here illegally is because I have been hearing about illegal immigrants coming over here and within a few months and they can get their social security number drivers license and working permit within a few months, meanwhile people who come here legally have to wait years to get that stuff, so I kinda see now why there is such a rush of illegal immigrants coming here. They get up and running on their feet within a few months. (It's not that easy to do that in other countries.) These people are just in an unlucky predicament right now because it is cold.. Wait till the spring and summer!!! There will be more here just waiting a couple of months and they will become legal and working at jobs that Americans won't be able to get hired into. When they come here illegally they get their stuff faster than when they come in the right way, it's crazy!!
Let's relocate them back to their points of origin. We're all full on freeloading ticks and locusts. Complaining about your situation here after illegally entering is priceless. I hear its warm this time of the year wherever you came from.
