Randy reminds me of my grandfather, Thank you Mr Randy for the no BS instructions. Too many people in my generation try to sale people on crap that people think is cool and forget to learn from those that have spent years learning the craft. And thank you for spending the time away from your family, business and everyday things to give us that want to learn the craft a honest no " Tactical" BS spin. God bless you Sir.

Just wanted to thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience. I've lost a great friend who used to teach me about shooting, reloading, and a passion for firearms. His family gave me his most recent build a .338-06. I took my first deer with it this past season and it was a truly emotional experience. Anyway, thank you again for sharing your knowledge and experiences.

I have a benchrest rifle that was my great uncles that I need to do some load development for and this video helps. Very solid information , well done.. In my 56 years of reloading i have not reloaded for a wildcat ctg until 11 years ago when i bought the first one .. One year later i bought the second wildcat ctg chambering .. In all the adventure took me through 11 different powders and many bullets and 4 years of loading and testing off the bench.. I really enjoyed doing this .. My first wildcat i only had 4 powders listed in one manual and 6 in the second manual .. In 1973 in an issue of the Rifle magazine were the founders who produced this wildcat along with loads they had worked up before hunting season.. Mainly it was their choice of bullet weights and powders they used to hunt big game .. It was fun .. My first wildcat ctg i went on to take 4 deer using it to hunt with .. My second wildcat ctg as of yet i have not hunted with it yet , that is about to change as this year as modern deer opens where i live in about half a week from today and i plan to get out in the field with it ..

I don’t know if you have, but explaining how to make a false shoulder for case forming would be good. Young people don’t read much anymore. I have found fewer yet have experienced mentors. I’m sure you can imagine what I’ve heard and have been asked that seem basic for someone who has studied. I was a young man when I saw men my age and even older shooting parent cases in Akley Improved or even other cartridges in different chambers. The first time I observed this and intervened, I was 23 or 24 years old. I saw a group of people standing around a bench talking and scratching their heads. These men where older than me. Curious, I walked over and just stood there observing. The man stated his rifle was throwing shots all over the place. I looked at his loaded cartridges and fired cases. I very quickly observed this man was firing 270 cartridges in a rifle chambered for 30-06. Even though a 270 is a bit longer than a 30-06 he was doing it. I could t believe it. When I later spoke with my father about this, he related a couple of experiences where he saw men injured at the range. One included the bolt coming back out of the action and severely injuring the mans face. It’s amazing to me the ignorance and lack of taught discipline men have today when it comes to reloading. I know for a fact you’ve heard and seen worse. Thank you for these videos, they are much needed these days.

No, sorry, I don't. The man that started our video series and worked for us for 18 months or so, before moving on, said other companies he knew of and had worked for had made DVD's and had many in stock, only to sell a trickle of them. So money tied up for years in a product not being moved. IF we could find a way to have them made, on demand, I'd sure consider it. For instance, you wanted a DVD of video x, y and z, ordered and paid, then with a bit of wait [no more than a few weeks to a month, perhaps] have them made and shipped.
Thanks for watching and for your following. We truly appreciate you all!

Fantastic, found this as I am looking at purchasing a Type 38 wildcatted to 6.5 - 257 Roberts. Basically from my understanding 257 Roberts necked up to 6.5? Looking for dies of this long absolute wildcat has been hard. Redding has 6.5 x 57 Mauser die set but not sure if they are the same dimensions. I was thinking of this as 257 Roberts is a necked down 7x57 Mauser. Anybody know for sure if this die set will work. I have tons of 257 Roberts brass I can use. Was thinking of cerosafe casting the chamber and sending the measurements to get a custom die if that don't work.

Can you use water to see how much case capacity a certain case holds
I’m working on a round that I would love to see in a automatic but the original is a rimes case so I weighed the original rimed case on my digital scale and zeroed it to the case weight then filled it with water and found out the weight
Then I took the parent case and started forming it and cutting off the end of my die until it held the same amount of water did I mess up or is that just as good

Hello Randy excellent video on wildcat cartridges. I'm a novice but good with my hands and quick learner I found a wildcat cartridge design with impressive BC. its a 6.5X40mm here is the
Design and Performance of the 6.5×40
The approach in design of the 6.5×40 is a compact, long-range military cartridge that would not experience any functioning problems in magazine or belt-fed automatic weapons. Adopted the same 0.42 inch case diameter as the 6.8mm SPC together with a case taper and a shoulder angle similar to the 7.62×51. Choosing the 6.5mm caliber and a case length of 1.57 inches to allow the use of long, low drag bullets within the AR platform.
I will be seating a Lapua 6.5/.264mm 144gr bullet onto the case
Randy may I ask of your kind expertise with regards to reforming this case I can get an idea of from the design specifications to use the 6.8 SPC case 0.42 for the diameter as my starting point. What eludes me is what dies to utilize in forming the taper and shoulder angle to that of the 7.62x51 NATO case. I understand the later part I would need to resize the case to 1.57" case length slightly from the 6.8 SPC case length size of 1.667"
In closing, Randy thank you for taking time out to review my inquiry which I have sought high and low no one knows

Hello Randy.. If you are taking questions I have one. I inherited a Winchester model 70 economy rifle in .300 Win Mag and some fired Winchester brass. The brass wont chamber in this rifle. I determined that the dimension from the forward edge of the belt to the very rear of the base is just a tad too long. Is there a tool that can machine the forward edge of the case belt back maybe .0005". I believe that is all that is needed. The brass is still in good shape, primer pockets are good. Factory loads chamber just fine. Maybe this brass was subjected to pressures that were a bit excessive. Thank you

Well. This may ruffle some feathers, but it was made my a native American, our son. He is a native of Idaho, as that is where he was born. And that is in America. So he is native American. ;) He started flintknapping when he was 13 years old. He made hundreds of arrowheads, arrows, and some quivers and sold them locally to tourist businesses. At 16 he made a few knives and sent one to A. G. Russell knife company. Got his first order for flintknapped knives, out of obsidian, for 500 knives. From age of 16 till 33 he made knives for Russell's for Men and A. G. Russell Knife catalogs. He made that spear for us when he was 14 or 15. A prized possession.

It was done about 45 years ago. The marketing was a lot different then. A much greater "need" would have had to have been shown. Now, with some slick marketing, some abracadabra filming and a large budget for marketing, nearly anyone can promote their "new" caliber as the greatest thing since firearms came into existence, making everything else "obsolete".

They are all good. I happen to prefer the 25-06 AI and 6.5-06 AI.
      Thanks for watching.

Has anybody done a 50 bmg necked down to 5.56 and shot it just wondering what the ft per second’s would be ?

Totally impractical. I believe it was done to .17 cal.

    What about for obsolete cartridges?

    • @TheRealGunsmith

Especially now, with the scarcity of any components, the are hard to find and load for.
      Thanks for watching!

@@TheRealGunsmith I have a rifle chambered for a long obsolete cartridge and would like to load better than Unique with cast for. Some people online say follow 7.62x54R data for the 8x56R cartridge and Lee’s data for that cartridge is a carbon copy of their 8x57 Mauser data. That data seems a bit under pressure to the point it spits gas in your face when you shoot it. I remember capacity of water was really close to 30-06. I had a load that worked well but it seems as if Accurate changed their 4350.

I like him,but he didn't keep up with times. He's still living in the 70"s.
Again, I like him. But He's behind times.
Keep an open mind, and you'll understand what I'm saying.
Just ask yourself, would you have him or George Gardner build you new rifle. That's what I thought. But its people like him that made people like George Gardner. But I don't like him saying he's still the shit today. Sorry if I offended anyone. But yeah, I like this old man
