    My brother broke the headstock off my 77 Standard so I finished the job over his head and made him buy me another one. Nice repair

    Damn, this is probably the best repair I have seen so far, it's FLAWLESS, unlike the more crude ones.

      Great if you want your priceless Gibson to end up looking like a $300 Chinese copy complete with scarf joint. C'mon! Seriously..

      Man that is some serious talent but Greg I have to agree with you the scarf joint would be a problem to explain that is a real
      Les Paul. But atleast when i buy a chinese les paul that is my perfect explenation I broke the headstock lol!

      mystic mello new Gibson’s might as well be Chinese copy’s. They’ve really gone to shit

    • @Fazman81
      @Fazman81 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Greg Yeah but it’s the way Gibson’s should be made. That one piece neck construction has failed over and over. You’d think Gibson would have learned their lesson.

    Very very nice work. No need in worrying about resale value like others are saying, resale value was lost when the headstock was broken in the first place. What you guys have done is made a useless chunk of wood a guitar again that can be played and enjoyed from here on out. Not only is it repaired, but also with a better, stronger design than original. I'm sure this guitar had some kind of sentimental value also to the owner and has now been brought back to life!

    • @marzsit9833
      @marzsit9833 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      no value was lost as long as the owner keeps the documentation of the repair job, like this video for example. and the paper reciept from the repair shop. if anything the construction of the instrument has been upgraded and improved and it will be a lot harder to break off the headstock the next time.

    Thank's for sharing.

    • @revgregory
      @revgregory 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually this is how it's done if don't know how to spline and reattach the original headstock. Not how the guy my guitar would go to would have approached this at all, and he's worked on far worse cases that I've seen. For a 2010 maybe it was the affordable option, though it looks like a lot more effort than grooves, splines, hide glue, and clamps with maybe a few patch pieces and chisel work.

    I started this video thinking "what a hack job"? I ended the video humbled! Not only did you repair it, but you upgraded it as well. A repair any les paul owner would be proud of. The best I've seen. I would go out on a limb and say you increased the value of that guitar. My Ideal Les Paul would have that scarf joint head angle mod. along with the angle of the machines modernized.

    Awesome job on that repair!
    I still think Gibson (and Epiphone) needs to do something about the ease of headstock breaks on their guitars. A splice like you used, a 3-piece neck, a volute, something. I know tradition is tradition but this is the same company that currently uses robot tuners for crying out loud! Keep the traditional methods and techniques for the historic reissues and so forth, update the modern ones.

    Nice job. You have lots of patience and you need it doing this kind of work. I repaired a white Gibson Explorer with the neck break at the body. It wasn't that bad. Matching the white color was not hard either. I made the guitar look like it had not had a repair. I also repaired an Epi SG and an Epi LP Custom with neck breaks at the head stock. It took some work but both turned out great. The red dye stain from Stew Mack worked really well.
