Hey Shok - I know this video was a long time ago so I wouldn't be surprised if you never see this, but how do you feel about cassio itemization now that ROA has been in the game for a while and some of cassio's key items were tweaked. I find myself building the same 3 or 4 core build of Rod, Seraphs, Rylais almost every game - the tankyness feels good because as a lower elo player I am likely to misposition or get caught out more and I always find myself defaulting to it out of fear that I will get burst down in a teamfight by the enemy mid or jg. What do you recommend into different types of team comps - ones w high burst vs tankier teams etc.
Hi! I've recently discovered your videos and have been loving them! On the note you said about Everfrost being ideal for short range and also when health may be needed ... how do you feel about the reintroduction of RoA to fill that need? Where does it sit with Cassio currently? Thanks for all of your content. I'm returning after leaving during season 8 or so? Went from Support to Mid and your videos have been great for me. Edit: clarification on what I was asking.
Yea imo RoA is a good replacement to crown/everfrost. Definitely feels better, even on champs that aren't cassio I'd be surprised if anyone builds crown anymore
I wanted to humbly add few things being a cass main myself, first u dont have to be running away to do a reverse with the ult you just have to flash past your R cursor, then second I think its important to mention that in order to increase the chances to stun with your R Flash, a good option is to purposely put a Q in the ground so the people will be more tempted to run you down considering you appear less threatful without your Q spell then boom r flash, i would love to see more content on this champ tho!
From my twitch page: You should go liandry most of the time. Liandry is very good vs health stackers OR long range champs. ROA is good against short range comps that need to burst you down. I probably go liandry about 80% of the time.
Another absolute BANGER of a guide! Do you have some tips on versing Qiyana? I'm having such a rough time against her during laning phase (getting 1 shot) and even when I'm ahead in kills/cs. It feels like shes too nimble with almost infinite stealth making it very hard to punish her when she goes in for me (if i'm not dead already). Thank you for taking the time to make this. It's nice having someone do an in-depth guide on cass because it doesn't really feel like there's anyone playing her atm :D
Mainly just have to take exhaust and rush seekers, make sure you don't get ultied into a wall/brush. If you do those you should mostly be fine. Pre 6 is very easy and post 6 once you have seekers you shouldn't die but worst case you can probably just farm it out.
Hey! Im working thru the video right now. Long time player trying to brush back up. Im finding success with ROA since the item changes recently. Thoughts on catalyst over chapter early etc? (Assuming you don’t touch on it here since it wasn’t in game when this came out I think)
ROA is pretty solid, imo it mainly comes down to if they have a lot of health stackers OR a lot of range you should go liandry, otherwise you can go ROA. In lane chapter is better for pushing advantages and catalyst is better for bad matchups.
@@ShokLeague thanks! Was wondering its best fit since it just came back in. Havent tried playing for real since like 2015 and Cassi feels super strong right now
Hey Shok! Recently picked up Cassiopeia, and was wondering about 2 aspects of the champ; why is it you recommend bigger trades only at level 3? Are the mana costs that different from lvl 2? And secondly, since cassiopeia is a scaler, is it ever fine to go even in lane? If you’re unable to land q’s, or find solokills/kills from riverfights
Mana cost doesn't change much but the damage increases a lot, essentially it's just way more mana efficient to fight at level 3 than level 2. You can go even in lane it's still fine, but if you can you should leverage your strong lane!
Hi Shok, thank you for the detailed guide. I've got a few questions about a certain matchup and my rune choices on Cassio. As for my elo I was Grandmaster in flex last season, decayed from D1 in flex this season. I can hold my ground against players in the D3-D1 range. I mainly play from clash to clash with friends but I would still like to improve at the game and Cassiopeia even if I don't play that much. How are we supposed to play the LeBlanc lane? If I try to play under my tower LBs punish my team by going around the map. I have to be extremely precise with the wave as I'm aware, just infront of me but also out of tower range. And if I keep the lane in the middle, LBs usually setup a gank for their jungler with the W-E combo and I either lose my flash or die. And as to when I'm supposed to ult her. I'm not sure what to do with that. Usually I'm very confident with my Cassio ults but against LB I feel hesitant on pressing R considering she can always escape with W. I guess it's still possible to ult her, I'm just not used to it yet. Other than that I keep a good distance away from her in fights and get my situationals right and stay around my team. My question is just laning, other than that I have no problems with DPSing during the games where there is a LB on the opponent team. I usually compensate for my lack of help that was present in the early game by showing good performance in fights. Also as for runes, what do you think about Manaflow Band, Celerity on the secondary page? I find the tiny bit movement speed extremely useful when playing against mages like Syndra, Morgana. I think it helps me dodge the enemy's CC. Maybe it's more of a psychological thing, it makes me feel safe knowing that I have a little more extra speed than usual. Also I'm a Taliyah main, I always go for roams and river skirmishes. With Cassiopeia of course I don't fully commit to roams, I am usually walking towards the river for a 2v2 with my jungler. Knowing that I'm going to get to the fight a little bit faster than my opponent or compensate on my lack of movement speed makes me feel good. I like transcendence as well but I really want to be more aggressive in my laning phases and prefer the extra movement speed and I take Ability Power instead of Ability Haste because of that. What are your tips against LeBlanc and my rune choices? Thank you for the guide again, love your videos. Greetings from the US.
LB is pretty hard, mainly just need to make sure you have good wards and are hugging the correct side of the lane. You're right that you do have to keep the wave on your side but it's difficult, the good thing is you pretty hard destroy LB 1v1 and she has very long cooldowns so if you know where her jungler is you should be able to fight her. Just try use R after she's on your W, you can even just use it for damage but a lot of the time you'll be able to stun her if she's trying to stay in chain range while you're kiting back. I think those runes are fine to take if you have success with them.
Nice guide personally i sometimes consider force of nature vs heavy ap teams over visage yeah you dont heal that much and you dont get haste but in lot of games when i feel like i have to be the one making plays i value extra speed and durability more same goes vs AD sometimes i prefer deathmans plate for extra speed and since you dont need to use AA in later on speed is masive. Just tried picking up cass the other day, first opponent I get is a OTP Azir. XD Glad to see you rank him as a hard match up. I haven't seen much of it, but can Cass go top or jungle? I feel like after blue, she could shred camps for decent lane ganks. Or is that probably only viable for low elos? (under diamond, currently S2)
I think Cass can AD or Top pretty comfortable, honestly I've never tried Cassio jungle though, I think you could probably clear decently but your ganks are pretty terrible.
@@remus6846 not unplayable he is decent with many good and many bad matchups. Currently unplayable due to viktor but if you ban viktor you win the game
do you think its possible to main Cassiopeia, borderline OTP, and find success? As a cass main, I am struggling to carry vs newer champions or against certain comps, but I cannot tell if its player skill that is making me unable to carry or I just cannot perform on Cassiopeia because the champ doesn't have 1million dashes and 70% healings etc etc
Try kill the voidlings as quick as possible with your E, and when he uses his cooldowns zone him off the wave since they are very long and he sucks at trading. Post 6 it's hard to match push though but you can build a big advantage pre 6
hey shok when do you recommend going sorcery over resolve in secondary runes with todays games? find myself almost always just going resolve. any match ups where you think its like so free that sorcery is viable?
What are your thoughts on ROA? All the meta guides are saying to run it over Liandrys but what I’ve been reading all the Cassiopeia mains still prefer Liandrys. Thank you for all your content, it’s been super helpful!
imo it's situational, ROA is really good against comps that want to dive/have lots of assassins. Liandry is definitely more DPS overall so I tend to go for that against tankier comps or against comps where I won't take much dmg
i go luden's 80% of time and its really good. ofc its riskier but its good for all in where you cant really make the fight last long, say against assassins or adcs. and the ms is useful specially since it resets fast thanks to her q / w tics. still liandry's still overall better
I'm still I low elo, so I what I have to say isn't very helpful, but I have tried to get a decent Q-max build type of setup. I've tried to build it against high range matches. It's not consistent, and mana is an issue, but people underestimate it and don't expect the Q to do as much damage as it does, so I find it nice to poke (but mana is still a major issue). I don't know if you have had better success with it yet, but it is fun for every now and then.
Yeah I actually think you're pretty much right on the money, it can be better than regular E max if you're vs extreme amounts of range (Lux, ezreal, ranged support kinda comps). You kinda have to plan for it in advance though cause like you said it's really mana demanding so you need PoM + manaflow + a tear at least.
Thank you very much for your in-depth guide! Do you know at what level/with how much AP does Q on caster minions + one E executes them? I am testing but if you know it'd be quicker.
Hi Shok. Thanks for great guide. 12.10 refugee here, do you think cassiopeia is harder than Qiyana? I invested a lot time learning qiyana only for her to get hard nerfed (12.10) so I am trying to learn a not-so-hard champion so your input here will be very helpful for me.
I think it's definitely good vs assassin/burst comps or comps with bruisers in it (that aren't too tanky). If you're vs ranged champs though or tanks you definitely want liandry
Yea it's just kinda outperformed by other items, Rylais kinda fills its spot where it could be built and then after that other items give you more value.
After the first couple levels you want to try keep the wave on your side of the lane, he won't be able to farm from range and if you hit a Q he will be forced to windwall, then next Q when his windwall is down you can just chase him down and kill him.
Do you think that the durability update made cassio worse? I know curtis had mentioned that he started pushing cassiopeia out of his pool after the update.
The matchups are worse because mages are more common, but the champion itself is better imo. I wouldn't blind pick it but it's an even better counterpick
Is Phase Rush really unusable to not be considered in any match-up? I find it good to match some champs that also use it as well as against any champ without dashes, even the big runners like Heca and Udyr, what do you think?
It's not unusable, it's just much weaker than conqueror, possibly the only time I might consider it would be against Viktor so you can phase rush through his W.
how do you play the ahri matchup? I dont find it extremely difficult and i think its weirdly easier since her changes but this matchup can be annoying for me especially since i cant match her roams early on
yeah this one can be annoying. I think you take cleanse so you don't have to be as scared of ganks, then try play really aggressive when she uses Q to push the wave since you have a 7 second window before it comes up again.
Hmm I'll think about it, in my mind I like to get all of the "pregame" stuff out of the way first like runes items summs etc before I go into the "ingame" stuff. Maybe I could add a quick montage or something at the start so people see what the champ does idk.
@@ShokLeague I guess it depends what you're planning your audience to be for these guides. I currently take them as people who've played for awhile and know the champions but are looking to master them. However if intended for beginners probably would be good to start with the abilities. (I'm assuming thats not who these videos are for though. )
@@ShokLeague I think it makes it easier for the viewer to understand rune choices better as they would already know what the abilities do. I myself am a relatively new player and have never played Cass, so starting with the abilities gives me a clear idea of what the champ does! But I definitely see your point of view as well, making your guides go along the path of a normal game! Also just wanted to add I really liked your viktor and vex guides, they're now my favourite mid laners to play!
@@dingdongs5208 True, I definitely agree knowing the abilities would give some context to the rune/item choices. Thanks for the feedback and kind words
Has anyone been using ziggs? This dude seems really strong and can clear waves fast as soon as lane starts. He seems overtuned but no one uses him. Havent played him but have played against him only a couple of time
He gets used bot lane a fair amount in high elo, there are a lot of mids that are kinda tough for him early game but bot lane is a bit easier to neutralize early.
Game dependent, ROA is good vs assassins/short range and liandry is normally better vs really tanky comps OR really long range comps that you can only hit Q against
In every coaching video that I see, or anything that has ro do with coaching, it's all in a language lo elo players don't understand. I once took a 4 hour coaching session, and I couldn't understand anything he was saying. I could a little bit, when he showed me kiting. But it never sinks in and makes sense xd
@@ΔημήτρηςΜπίτζιος-λ9τ I definitely agree it makes the early game harder, but if you can hit the futures market chapter spike early you can punish much harder. Personally though I think biscuits timewarp is way better unless you're vs someone a lot weaker than you.
It's a bit risky, it has to be an E auto because the poison fell off so the E doesn't do much damage, I think if he matches flash quickly I'm in a pretty rough spot. Possibly it would work though.
I personally don't think you should buy Zonhya as a last item, you'll get very minimum value if you get it too late in-game imo, but great video once again Shok!
Yeah I agree somewhat, normally if you do need the Zhonya you need to pick it up early in the game. Still it can be a good last item sometimes because you get stopwatch as a build path (which is much better than other late game build paths) and obviously the active when completed. Depends a lot what you're vs though there are a lot of good last items.

Looking to expand my mid champ pool to help me climb. Been playing ryze and loving him so im trying cassio and this helps a lot man thank you
I am amazed that there are people playing him from what i hear he is quite weak and arguably unplayable
@@remus6846 not unplayable he is decent with many good and many bad matchups. Currently unplayable due to viktor but if you ban viktor you win the game
@@laughtrax05 so he is not that bad after all
I am trying to find a main for alot of time maybe i will give the blue guy a try!
Hey! Do you think Cassio is still a good counterpick to A Sol with the rework?
Don't think it's that great, you get way too outranged in teamfights and can't really cancel his Q early game
do you think its possible to main Cassiopeia, borderline OTP, and find success? As a cass main, I am struggling to carry vs newer champions or against certain comps, but I cannot tell if its player skill that is making me unable to carry or I just cannot perform on Cassiopeia because the champ doesn't have 1million dashes and 70% healings etc etc
Yeah I think so, you should only struggle when you get to really high elo
Any thoughts on the Malz matchup? I find it hard to match his push.
Try kill the voidlings as quick as possible with your E, and when he uses his cooldowns zone him off the wave since they are very long and he sucks at trading. Post 6 it's hard to match push though but you can build a big advantage pre 6
I was wondering after the rod of ages introduction, how would you itemise with how the mythics are right now? Great guide 😊
When I'm vs tanks OR really long range I go liandry, otherwise I go ROA. I'd say it's about a 50/50 split for me
@@ShokLeague thanks for the tip!
hey shok when do you recommend going sorcery over resolve in secondary runes with todays games? find myself almost always just going resolve. any match ups where you think its like so free that sorcery is viable?
I've been running sorcery a lot lately, with the durability patch I think a lot of the time you don't need the extra resolve stats
Nice vid, you've just earned a sub. Can you make a video about the basics of mid lane? I'm learning mid and that vid would be pretty helpful :D
Yeah I wanna try cover all the fundamentals in different videos, starting with farming which will come sometime soon!
Hey shok i think you forgot to put in the vladmimir matchup I think its in favour of cassiopeia what do you think?
Yeah cass favored for sure
im interested in his thougth on demonic embrace i thought that was suppose to be ran as it pairs with the poison dot and liandrys.
It just doesnt really do enough dmg to be worth it even though the synergy is there
i go luden's 80% of time and its really good. ofc its riskier but its good for all in where you cant really make the fight last long, say against assassins or adcs. and the ms is useful specially since it resets fast thanks to her q / w tics. still liandry's still overall better
You are trolling you can't go luden
Nah I'm not totally sure, I just have a feel for it haha
Hi Shok. Thanks for great guide. 12.10 refugee here, do you think cassiopeia is harder than Qiyana? I invested a lot time learning qiyana only for her to get hard nerfed (12.10) so I am trying to learn a not-so-hard champion so your input here will be very helpful for me.
I guess maybe? I feel like their skills are so different that it's almost hard to compare them on difficulty.
Is the s13 Rod of ages viable on cassio to make her more tankier? Or liandry always BiS?
I think it's definitely good vs assassin/burst comps or comps with bruisers in it (that aren't too tanky). If you're vs ranged champs though or tanks you definitely want liandry
do you guys prefer (in case you build mr) fon or spirit visage?
SV personally
I didn't see Demonic Embrace in the situational items or hear you talk about it. What is your opinion on it?
Yea it's just kinda outperformed by other items, Rylais kinda fills its spot where it could be built and then after that other items give you more value.
Hi very good guide, how should i play against Yasuo? , why in the matchup is easy. Some tip 👌 thanks
After the first couple levels you want to try keep the wave on your side of the lane, he won't be able to farm from range and if you hit a Q he will be forced to windwall, then next Q when his windwall is down you can just chase him down and kill him.
@@ShokLeague thanks 👍
Hey i would love to know when its better to use ignite or ghost?
Basically just ignite if you think you can get some kills in lane/early skirmishes. Otherwise just take ghost if you're not sure.
Do you think that the durability update made cassio worse? I know curtis had mentioned that he started pushing cassiopeia out of his pool after the update.
The matchups are worse because mages are more common, but the champion itself is better imo. I wouldn't blind pick it but it's an even better counterpick
Hello friender, very nice guide. Can you make an Ekko guide
Hey, have you ever tried to play her bot lane as the dps carry with a sup ?
How to Play Golem Serpent S12
Is Phase Rush really unusable to not be considered in any match-up? I find it good to match some champs that also use it as well as against any champ without dashes, even the big runners like Heca and Udyr, what do you think?
It's not unusable, it's just much weaker than conqueror, possibly the only time I might consider it would be against Viktor so you can phase rush through his W.
@@ShokLeague I see, thanks!!
Thoughts on Riftmaker for mythic?
Decent but not as good as the other mythics imo.
how do you play the ahri matchup? I dont find it extremely difficult and i think its weirdly easier since her changes but this matchup can be annoying for me especially since i cant match her roams early on
yeah this one can be annoying. I think you take cleanse so you don't have to be as scared of ganks, then try play really aggressive when she uses Q to push the wave since you have a 7 second window before it comes up again.
Appreciate your content but for your guides I'd recommend showing us the abilities of the champ then move into runes!
Thanks for the feedback and kind words
can you show the akshan matchup? i hate him in general
Basically just need to hold your W and take exhaust
Why this insane rank 1 challenger player has only 2k subs lul...
quick low elo tip when picking blind, show top champions first then pick cassio xd
What about top cassio Vs tank matchups , (Ornn)
Good 1v1 but you are very gankable vs tanks in top lane
nowadays is it better to go Rod of Ages?
Game dependent, ROA is good vs assassins/short range and liandry is normally better vs really tanky comps OR really long range comps that you can only hit Q against
I think i will try to one-trick cass i wish this will work
Good luck!
Can you stream some Cass so we can see it all in action?
Will try!
what would you do against a tryn?
hi, i want to escape low elo im play mid, im silver last season gold toplane now i switch mid, do u think cassio il good to otp?
Yeah she's pretty good to OTP, I was a Cassio OTP originally!
In every coaching video that I see, or anything that has ro do with coaching, it's all in a language lo elo players don't understand. I once took a 4 hour coaching session, and I couldn't understand anything he was saying. I could a little bit, when he showed me kiting. But it never sinks in and makes sense xd
Depends on the coach I guess, definitely possible tho
@@ShokLeague lol yes, idk if it's me or I'm just bad at the game, I only understand about 10% xd
what about riftmaker ?
Not as good as the others imo, doesn't have any mana so it's sorta hard to rush it early but it does scale well.
@@ShokLeague thank you
so u think Cassio is good otp champion ?
Pretty good yeah
who the hell starts sapphire crystal on syndra vs cassio
He was doing the futures market chapter rush, not an awful idea honestly but took too much damage early.
@@ShokLeague i understand but if you go corrupting, buiscits, time warp, syndra has too much mana and the lane is unplayable for cass
@@ΔημήτρηςΜπίτζιος-λ9τ I definitely agree it makes the early game harder, but if you can hit the futures market chapter spike early you can punish much harder. Personally though I think biscuits timewarp is way better unless you're vs someone a lot weaker than you.
41:40 wasn't that a free kill with a fast flash + e?
It's a bit risky, it has to be an E auto because the poison fell off so the E doesn't do much damage, I think if he matches flash quickly I'm in a pretty rough spot. Possibly it would work though.
ty
i was playing 5/1 against kassadin but for some reason i couldnt win a single 1v1 in late game against him....
Yeah kass is hard to win against late game with his mobility, you have to hit R on him or W on top of yourself
Nemesis says Cass is worthless and unplayable now. Shok says Cass is cool. These pro players :(
i jts blinded her and went 1 4 against a syndra i was going mental
Yep its a pretty hard matchup
I personally don't think you should buy Zonhya as a last item, you'll get very minimum value if you get it too late in-game imo, but great video once again Shok!
Yeah I agree somewhat, normally if you do need the Zhonya you need to pick it up early in the game. Still it can be a good last item sometimes because you get stopwatch as a build path (which is much better than other late game build paths) and obviously the active when completed. Depends a lot what you're vs though there are a lot of good last items.
Ayeee
I have 4 and a half thousand cassio games and I am plat. soooo yeah
Pun1sher is the best cassio player
