- Watch Meyer Hatchery Brand Ambassador Jamie shares all about their coop!
"I got started in May this year with raising chickens. I had been wanting to have chickens for a couple of years and I finally talked my husband into the idea. I currently have 19 chickens, 2 roosters (a Lavender Americana and a Green Queen), and the rest are a mixed assortment of hens. I have Buff Brahmas, a Light Brahma, Easter Eggers, a Green Queen, some Polish, an Excheqhor Leghorn, and a few others that I'm unsure of. I love having them! They are very entertaining. My coop is a 10 x 14 storage building unlimited barn that has been converted into a coop by my husband and myself. Our fully enclosed run was constructed by my husband and myself and is 10 x 24. We plan to add an additional run space this coming spring."

Thank you!
Awesome
Very nice setup!
Thank you and thank you for watching!
Absolutely gorgeous Jamie!!
I love your setup. You have some very lucky chickies! Congrats on a job very well done!
You don't have to answer, but curious approx how much this setup would cost? I would love to build another coop and run that I can stand straight up in. I made the mistake of building the coop and run shorter than I am (5'10" and hub is 6'3") and I bump my poor head all the time :/
I got my first flock of 11 in March 2023.
I purchased all pullets but got one rooster. Which I'm actually happy about because he is a great"watchdog" for preditors. My hub and I built our Coop from scratch and our run also. I let them free range around the yard with cattle panels for barriers. They are so much enjoyment. I never realized how intelligent chickens are. They know their names and come running when I call them. My only regret is that I didn't get them years ago!!
All the best to you!
Thank you! We had the barn built by Storage Buildings unlimited and it was about $7500 built on site with the extras we got. The barn does not come painted from them some other companies include paint. My husband and I finished the interior of the barn and painted it then we built the run with the same height and pitch of the barn. We did all this in stages over the course of the whole summer and seemed like we were always running to get more supplies. If you include all the chicken stuff (waterer, feeder, automatic door, nesting box, etc) I'm guessing that added another $7-8000.
@@JamieBarr-rd2et thank you for replying and you're info!! Honestly, that's an amazing setup for the price. Its drool worthy! Lol
I love your videos and find many very helpful! Thank you for all your help 😁
Love it. I’m curious about the heated rain barrel. Do you have a nipple drinker set up? Or cups? What prevents them from freezing ?
It's a nipple drinker setup or lixit. The rain barrel has a thermostat controlled heater in it and there is a little pump that circulates the water though the lixit system to keep it from freezing. The pump is plugged in to a "heat it" adapter that will turn it on around 40 degrees. We got this setup from Carolina coops but some of the stuff comes from Amazon they just put it together and sell it as a complete system.
