  • This is a full review of a brass hybrid Broadway Limited Imports New Haven Class I-5 4-6-4 Hudson Streamliner with Paragon 4 DCC Sound and Smoke.
    These locomotives were built in 1937 and ran until 1951 hauling the premium trains on the New York, New Haven, and Harrford Railroad.
    This model is an incredible representation of the Class I-5 streamlined Hudsons.

    Very well detailed and handsome New Haven rr Hudson type locomotive model, I really like the streamlined body casing along with the white stripe displayed on the paint scheme. It's a true shame that none of the New Haven rr i5 class Hudsons were preserved for public display as these were very attractive locomotives and only ten of these engines were built.

      I agree. One should have been preserved. I got the model because I think it is the most tastefully done streamliner. I'm not a New Haven modeler, but I had to have this release . I am glad you enjoyed the video, particularly the history section.

    Thanks for the demo. I think to make it last I wouldn't pull more than 15-20 cars.

      11 to 13 is tops on my test track before it looks ridiculous. I will be building a bigger layout later but this track helps me build skills and show you guys stuff I am good at modeling wise.

    And here I was looking to just run a small commuter of a 5-7 car train behind it. I just ordered my stealth version from BLI and can’t wait to get some of those Rapido Osgood cars for it.

      Oh it can do so much more. When I build a bigger layout I can go with bigger consists. Don't worry it will look great with 5-7 cars because it just looks so d**n good! I'll have to check those Rapido cars out. What decoder do you want to put in yours?

      @@Zmanmodelrailroads I’m going with a Tsunami2 from Soundtraxx as the vast majority of my fleet is that.
      I will also say right now Rapido has the County class of cars out and you’ll have to hunt for the coaches and diners. I already am haha. I might try having my I5 haul the 20th Century Limited cars I have for a spell. All Walthers and tons of drag.

    Wow, Zman! That locomotive really looks great! I really like the new pull test you did. Great review!

      Thanks! I am really impressed by this but it should be awesome for the price. If it wasn't, it would be a disappointment. I will keep the pull test, Thanks for the comment!

    That is a great looking model. You got a lot of detail, power and a working smoke unit. It will be a great addition to Tinaburg.

    I’m almost impressed with the sounds. Nice details in the cab.

      The backhead details were excellent and the sounds were better than other BLI Paragon 4 lococs.

    Hmm... Smoke... One of the things I always gut out during my TCS WOW conversions on the pre-Stealth era BLI models. The DCC ready version is probably the better option if you want TCS WOW or LOK Sound. That, and a more affordable price too.
    Finally, I recommend those Rapido NH coaches with the dark green stripe. Matches well with the NH I-5.

      BLI smoke units are unreliable for sure. Right now, it works, so I will keep it with the Paragon 4. I just turn the smoke off myself. Yeah, I am looking at the Stealth option now. It's not that much more affordable because a TCS or LOKSOUND chip just adds the price back on. Thanks for the recommendation, fellow Pennsy fan!

      They have been doing amazing things with N scale as of late. Technology makes it more appealing to me every day.

    Are you a huge fan of New Haven steam trains?

    • @Zmanmodelrailroads
      @Zmanmodelrailroads  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'm actually a just a huge fan of steam trains. I model Pennsylvania, B&O, and NYC in the Pittsburgh area but this New Haven model was too classy to pass up. I think the I-5 Hudson is one of the most tastefully done streamliners.

    $799.99 ouch !

    • @Zmanmodelrailroads
      @Zmanmodelrailroads  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah, buddy! That's the MSRP which, unless you're shopping of certain sites, yoh will never pay. Trainworld.com has a better price on them. It was still $679, but it is definitely a good model. I think it was worth it.
